Reid smiled and nodded, "That'd be great, I've been trying to figure out the ins and outs of the Bronx at least but it doesn't seem to be working out that well. At least I haven't gotten so lost I've needed a stranger to walk me home like my sister." He chuckled at the thought remembering the story his sister had related to him when she got home that night.

"Got lost did she?" Mooch chuckled with him as she imagined the story behind that one. She was beginning to think that being around him might cause a permanent smile, didn't someone once say something about your face sticking a certain way?.... "Dat musta been some story. Don't worry, you'll get used to dese streets eventually." she assured. It wasnt that hard to learn ones way around here, but it did take time.

Reid nodded, "I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. It's more her that concerns me, she isn't the best when it comes to that, but she'll make due." Reid liked talking with Mooch, she seemed really easy going and not too shady like most characters around New York. Then again he'd been warned that those were the ones you have to look out for. They'd smile and chat you up and then next thing you know half your belongings would disappear into the night.

Mooch chuckled. She'd never met Reids sister but she felt like she wouldnt mind meeting her. "So you've got a sister." she said stating the obvious knowledge gathered from his stories, "any uddah siblins?" Mooch didnt have much of a story behind her, just your average runaway kid who grew up on the streets, so she enjoyed hearing other peoples stories. She moved a little so her hand was settled in the grass slightly out of the shade, letting the sun warm her fingers.

Reid smiled and nodded, "Yeah my little brother, Perry. Now he's a handful...." Reid laughed and shook his head at the thought. His brother had a tendency to get into trouble without even meaning to. He also had a tendency to follow in his sisters footsteps and get lost or wander off more times than not. "You'd probably get a laugh or two out of him, he can be very entertaining."

Mooch couldnt help but smile at his laughter. "Entertaining, how so?" she asking lightly a laughing tone gracing her voice. She knew there had to be a story behind the laughing and comments and she found herself wishing that she had stories of her own to tell. She was happy and yet slightly jealous that reid had a real family, not that spooky wasn't family enough for her. She reached over to gently pet spooky who apparently had forgiven her for earlier because he turned over and stretched out so she could pet his stomach.

Reid smiled at Mooch, he wasn't very perceptive so he didn't catch on to her feelings. He also didn't think about the fact that most kids he met didn't have a family. He knew what it was like to lose loved ones, after all he'd lost his parents but he still had his siblings and he knew that if he lost them he'd be lost. "Well...he's very energetic, he loves to talk. Sometimes it's hard to carry on a conversation with the kid because he jumps around so much from one thing to the next. Right now he talks constantly about Dodger and his hat trick and Spot Conlon and his cane."
Reid honestly found the whole Spot Conlon thing much funnier than his sister did. Then again Lexi worried over everything and now she would worry about her brother wondering to Brooklyn to find the infamous boy and then getting beat by Conlon for being in his territory. Reid didn't know Conlon of course, not many people did but they knew of him. Reid didn't think he'd beat Perry just for wondering around, maybe if Perry was dumb enough to say something offensive. But Perry didn't even know what would be offensive so he couldn't very well say it.

"sounds like a fun kid" she said noting the way reid alked about his siblings. He seemed to love them a lot and it made her happy that he had them because they definetely seemed to be an important part of him. She silently wondered if he would be the same person without them but then shook the sad thought off. "Don't know the guy dat well but im pretty shoah dat Spot doesnt beat kids foah nothin" she chuckled, "And i'se nevah seen dodgahs hat trick but im guessin its pretty cool if perry wont stop talkin about it."

Reid shrugged, "Honestly I've never seen Dodger do the trick himself but Perry's been practicing it so much I feel like I could do it in my sleep." Reid stopped talking and gave Mooch a thoughtful look, he'd just realized that'd he'd been talking about his family nonstop for quite a time. "Didn't mean to ramble on like that."
He gave her a grin and looked down at her cat for a moment before looking back up at her. "So do you live in the Bronx? Or are you just passing through?"

Mooch smiled and shook her head slightly, "Ramblings fine." At his question she shook her head again, "nah we dont really stay in one place to long." She wished she had more interesting things to say but she didnt really have much of an interesting life. "We stay where we can find shelter and dats pretty much it. No set place" She smiled, she didnt mind this life most of the time and she knew that she definetely couldn't go back , not after tasting the freedom of the streets.

Reid smiled, "Guess that could be nice. Just go where you please when you please." He figured if she really wanted a roof over her head she could find one so he wasn't going to dwell on that. He leaned back on one of his elbows thoroughly enjoying sitting in the shade. It was so much cooler here than it was anywhere else. "So what do you do during the day?"

"Yeah it is pretty nice" She replied. Honestly, she liked this life much more than being in a structured family enviroment. Sure there were still rules but it was a much more independent life. She didnt have to look after anyone but herself. Except of course, Spooky. She shrugged at his question, "depends on da day. Usually i wake up, grab food if i can and den sell a few papes and hope dat i make enough money ta get dinnah. Isn't dat how dis life works?" she said motioning to a kid hawking headlines across the park.

Post by Officer John Wren on Oct 12, 2008 8:49:42 GMT -5
((New Day))
Officer John Wren enjoyed the fact that he was stationed at Pelham Bay Park for the day. He enjoyed patrolling the parks, usually because he didn't encounter anyone that was too disagreeable. People who would either be in a foul mood, thus proving a problem to an officer, usually wouldn't be seen spending their time in a public park. On the days that he patrolled the park he could relax for a bit, knowing that usually he wouldn't run into anything that needed his immediate attention.
But would that change? Invariably, it would. The orders he'd received from Sergeant Delancey were clear, and Officer Wren would act on them, if need be. He rode through the paths on horseback, greeting civilians who greeted him with a courteous nod, keeping an eye out for what he was supposed to be looking for. He glanced about, and half hoped he wouldn't have to dismount for any reason. Half of him honestly didn't want to put out the effort. But also, he almost disliked what he had to do...
But orders were orders.

Peem was standing by a nearby bench, selling the last of his papers. He only had about five, before he could grab some groceries, and head on home.
"Mayor caught in compromising position last night at the club!" It was actually Mr. Mayjor, the owner of the club, but it was only a tiny lie. It had sold most of his papers, anyways. He wasn't much of a liar, but he was willing to stretch the truth a bit when his charm didn't finish up the job.
Seeing the cop, he nodded curtly, smiling slightly. "Hey Officer, care for a paper?" He never had any problem with the police; he was a law abiding citizen; he didn't have anything to fear.

"Hey Officer, care for a paper?"
Officer Wren stopped his mount and turned to see a young man standing nearby, with a few papers on his person. This, he realized, was the kind of kid he'd been told to look out for. Newsies, shoeshine boys, stable boys, anything on that level or lower. Those were the kids who need to be taken care of. Something told him, however, that he didn't need to worry about this one. The boy wasn't a boy at all: a grown man, or very soon to be. John had the feeling he didn't need to concern himself with a newsie of this one's age.
In response, John shook his head and added with an apologetic smile, "Couldn't read it on the job, now could I." He momentarily felt guilty, as if he'd slighted the poor kid. He thought for a moment, and sighed. Was he too kind-hearted to be an officer? "Hold on a moment, friend..." He dug into his pocket and found a penny. Tossing it to the newsie, he added, "For your trouble." He probably would have bought a paper if he hadn't been on patrol, anyway...
