She shrugged. "Kinda depends. Have you talked to anyone about teachin' ya yet?" she asked throwing some old stuff off of her bed and putting her new shirts on top of a chest of drawers. It's likely that the room was cleaner than the boys' of the other boroughs, and maybe more organized, but that was the way Prince worked, after all. She was a girl, not a boy like the other leaders, though she was going to start holding that secret closer to her chest than before.

Buttons shook her head and watched the Queens leader as she moved things around. "No not yet." She said quietly. She hadn't even thought about talking to anyone about teaching her, she would have to go and find someone if Prince said she could stay. Looking down at her bear she picked a piece of fuzzy off his ear then looked back up at the boy feeling a little intimidated, thinking that he might be mad that she hadn't asked for help.
(woah posted on the wrong character at first sorry lol)

Prince nodded. "Well then I'll hafta take ya out myself," she said tossing a smile over her shoulder at the girl. Finally Prince sat herself down on the bed. Girl looked young! ...Good! "Buttons, how old are you?" she asked crossing her arms and looking the little girl over. Goodness this thing was cute... she might wanna stick around her quite a bit, or this little girl could get herself into some serious trouble out there. Men are jerks, what could she say?

She smiled when Prince said that. What better way to learn how to sell papers then from the leader of the Queens Newsies. "I'm 7." She said proudly and sat up straighter with smile on her face. She was very proud about her age and hated when adults told her she was to young to understand anything.

She nodded. "You oughta meet my friend, Jem," she said nodding. "He's about your age, I think you'd get along pretty good I think," she said nodding. ...she then thought that she hadn't seen him today. He was probably out with the boys. She was too concerned. She just usually saw him in the morning, and hadn't that day. Nothing to loose sleep over. "But it's a little late for us to go sellin' today," she said. "So I guess tomorrow mornin' I'll take ya out and we can teach ya, how's that sound?"

She smiled, being as shy as she is it's kinda hard for her to meet new people, but she would like to meet Jem, from the way Prince was talking he seemed really nice. Buttons liked nice people. Her smiled grew when he said they would go out tomorrow morning and nodded excitedly her blond curls bouncing as she did. "I'd like that alot." She said happily, she like Prince, he was nice.

"Good, okay," Prince ran a few things through her mind about what needed to happen. "Okay, first lemme tell ya that upstairs there are beds that are made up. Beds with nothing under them are the ones that no one sleeps at. They're also made up a little bit better than the others are," she said. The kids were in charge of keeping their own beds in order, but they weren't required to do anything. Some did make their beds, but they never looked as good as the fully made beds. "So if you have anything with you, other than Mr. Bear here," she said nodding to Tubby, "then it can go under ya bed."
"Now," she said standing to change the subject. "I'm gonna tell ya a secret okay?" She went over and closed the door. She realized at this point that she couldn't take off her hat and and show someone that she was a girl. "Okay, I'm not really a boy, okay? I'm a girl..." she tok her hat off anyway, out of old habit mostly. "See?" she said in her normal voice. "But the trick is you can't tell ANYONE, okay? This is a very special secret that only newsies get to know and no one else, so you have to promise me that you'll keep my secret, okay?" she asked, hoping the little girl could understand how important it was.

The little girl listened intently to everything Prince said, nodding her head that she understood about the bed situation. She hoped a bed by a window was open she liked to look outside to watch the people stroll by. She had a small bag of things with her but there was nothing that was extremely important just two extra dresses, a coat and a few coins that she had found on her way over here.
She nodded her head when the leader said that she was going to get to know a secret, and blinked in surprise when Prince took off her hat and told her that she was a girl and not a boy. "I wont tell anyone Prince, I promise." Buttons said and even thought she was young Buttons never went back on her word. She was good at keeping secrets. She gave Prince another toothless smile and looked at Tubby. "He won't tell either." She promised for him like the stuffed animal could talk.

Prince nodded. "Good, I knew I could trust you," she said nodding. "Okay kiddo, if you wanna go find yourself a bed, you are officially a queens newsie, and welcome to the Lodging house," she said with a quick nod as she opened the door for the girl again.

Buttons smiled and slid off the chair she was sitting on, "Thank you Prince!" She said happily as she bounced to the door. "Hear that Tubby we're newsies now!." Buttons left the room grabbing her small bag that sat next to the door and went to find the girls bedroom to claim her bed.

Prince closed the door after her and chuckled. Cute kid... she chuckled slightly. She looked out the window, how was it so hot? She'd have to open up the windows in the place tonight so that they could be cool at least for a little while.
She sighed a little at the city. She needed to go take a walk. She left her room, and then left the lodging house, heading for the fountain... she hadn't been there in too long.

It was late morning when Racetrack reached the Queens lodging house. He was bitter about having to run errands for Jack, but knew that it was important. He had the feeling it was something to do with the kids who had gone from the face of the earth all of a sudden. Why Jack would want to bother Prince, Race couldn't say. If it were up to him he would forget about it. Kids came and went--that's how it worked with the newsies. End of story, thank you, good night, who wants a smoke?
Race passed a young kid near the steps. "Is Prince here?" The kid shrugged. "Don't gimme that," Race said sharply. "I asked a question!" The kid looked scared for a minute, and replied, "Upstairs, I think."
"Jeez, like pulling teeth! Go lie down after that one, so you don't tire y'self out, kid..." Race pushed past him and went up the stairs, entering Prince's room and forgetting to knock. "Prince," he said, and recited off the top of his head. "Jack needs to see you. Don't know about what for sure, but he said for you to meet him at the Manhattan place today. Six o'clock."

Prince looked up dropping a book in her hands. "...What the hell was that?" she said putting the book face down on the table in front of her. She folded her arms and looked at him. She cocked an eye brow at him expecting an explanation. She looked strange, being more boyish than she had been. Short hair, faded black eye and no figure to speak of. She was more intimidating than she used to be, and she was wondering what the heck Race was doing bursting into her Lodging House, not knocking on doors, and coming in completely unannounced.

Race didn't recognize Prince at first with her short hair, but once he got over the fact he addressed the way she was looking at him. Basically, she was pissed. Race rolled his eyes, refusing to be intimidated, although he had to admit she was doing a better job at trying than she usually did. "Look, sorry, a'right? But I got more stuff to get done than be doing TipOff's job. I'm in, I'm out, we're done. What, you need to hear it again?" He glanced at the book on the floor. "Youse all need to quit reading all the damn time."
He looked at Prince squarely and said, "Jack's place. Today. Six o'clock. He gotta discuss some stuff. I dunno what. Ya get that?"

"Yeah yeah, I got it the first time," she said waving at him. "I getcha." She missed the part where the poor kid was Jack's run around guy. she felt bad for the poor guy now. "Go on sorry Race," she said with a chuckle. "I'll go see Jack..." she figured she'd head out now. "And thanks for the message," she said with a smile. "Please don't hurt anyone on your way out." She picked up the book off the floor and waved to Race when he left.
