A place for the leader to go and do some thinking, or have some time to herself when she doesn't want to be disterbed. There's a bed, chair, as well as places for her to keep things. Just the right size, and made to be the way Prince likes it.

Luis had been selling papers for a short time before needing to stay at a lodging house. Having been raised in Queens he didn't see any reason to find another lodging house to stay at, and he liked that the Queens LH was only a few blocks from where his parents were staying. He had awkwardly wandered through the lodging house, various people having pointed him in this direction. He had heard there was someone in charge of the place, a leader of sorts, that he had to speak to about staying. Finding the right door he paused, looking around a bit uncomfortably before raising his hand and knocking. "Hello? I'm, uh, well I'm new.." He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, part of him hoping no one was there and that he'd have to just come back.

Unfortunately for Luis, Prince was home! Though she had been asleep when he knocked. She sighed and got up. "Hold on..." she said. She slipped her hat onto her head, but left her hair down, trusting the voice behind the door. She was certain she was a right mess, but didn't mind much at this point... it became normal anymore.
Prince made her way over to the door and opened it. "Hey," she said leaning against the door frame. She waited to see the reaction he had finding out that the leader of the Queens newsies was a girl. Usually it took a minute for it to sink in, unless the guy knew nothing about newsies and leaders at all. "Can I help ya?"

As the door opened Luis took a step back, sticking his hands in his pockets. "Uh, hi, yeah, I was wondering if I could stay here..." He paused, gesturing over his shoulder with his head. "They told me I had to speak with you about it..." Luis didn't know what to expect of the Queens leader, but her being a female wasn't something he found very surprising. The leader of his family certainly wasn't his father, it was his mother, and she didn't take crap from anyone.

Prince looked the guy up and down... didn't seem like he was the type to do any harm, and with all the kids thy got running around Queens... havin' another guy around might not be a bad idea. "Well..." she said standing up straight. "First off, my name is Prince. Second of all, ya mighta noticed I'm a goil which, as you may... then again may not know, ain't typical. I usually wear my hair up and make myself look like a boy..." she shrugged. "I got reasons for that. But... nothin' worth concern," she said. "Anyway, how about yourself? What's ya name... anything important I need to know?" she asked folding her arms again.

Luis shifted a bit as she surveyed him, feeling a bit uncomfortable being scrutinized. He just nodded through most of her introduction, wondering briefly about her comment about looking like a boy, but torn from his revere with the conversation turning to him. "I'm Luis, Luis Valdez," He held out his hand and attempted a friendly smile. "But you can call me Dez, if you want, other people seem too.." A few weeks after he had started selling papers, he noticed most newsies seemed to have nicknames, and after one girl had referred to him as Dez, it just seemed to stick. At he last question he wasn't sure what to say, and he shrugged a bit awkwardly. "Nothing important I don't think... "

Prince nodded and accepted his hand shake. "Dez..." she said nodding. Heck, why not? "Alright," she said, "ya welcome ta stay," she said. "The bunk room is right up the stairs," she said pointing. "You know ya way 'round the place?" she asked. "I mean... the city, not the lodging house. This place is easy, kitchen and livin' room is downstairs, Bunk room right up there." She smiled a little back to him. "And if ya need anythin', ya already know where I'm at."

He looked around as she pointed, and nodded at her question. "I know my way alright." When she smiled he grinned, glancing down briefly at his shoes. She sure was pretty for someone who tried to look like a boy.
"And if ya need anythin', ya already know where I'm at."
"Yeah, well, thanks for letting me stay," He turned to leave but after a few steps spun back, thinking of something to ask. He was enjoying talking with her. "You know I didn't even know newsies had leaders... are there any kinds of rules I should know about?"

Prince laughed a little and smiled at the guy. He was nice... at least he was making sure he had his bases covered. "Uh... don't hurt nobody if ya can help it, 'specially the kids," she said. "Feel free ta use self-defense if someone attacks ya though. Uhhh... don't go tellin' everyone I'm a girl... dat's important...uh..." she thought for a second. "Don't get caught by da cops, i dun wanna break ya outta da refuge," she said with a smile. "Other than that, stay outta trouble, pay rent on time, and enjoy life," she said with a wink.

He nodded at her list, and opened his mouth to say something but she continued before he got a word out.
"Don't get caught by da cops, i dun wanna break ya outta da refuge. Other than that, stay outta trouble, pay rent on time, and enjoy life," she said with a wink.
with his previous question forgotten he furrowed his brow a bit. "The refuge? Is that some kind of prison?" He made the connection with what she had said about the cops, but he really didn't understand why he had to watch out for cops anyway. This was all very new to him still, and he was helplessly naive.

Prince's smile fell a little and she realized the kid may know his way around, but he didn't really know much at all. "The refuge is a jail for kids, yeah, pretty much," she said with a small nod. 'Uhhh..." she sighed. She wasn't sure what to do... he looked older... but she couldn't be sure. She could pull off a boy, he could pass for 20 and only be 14! Anything was possible. And despite the fact that he seemed to have experience he seemed rather... clueless as unfortuante as it was.
"Dez," she said folding her arms again, "How old are you?" she asked cocking her head to one side a little.

He stood up a little bit straighter, a bit embarrassed by her question. "Seventeen," He looked at her, slight worry in his features. "Why?" He wondered if maybe he was too old to live here and quickly regretted not lying by at least a year. After all, almost all the kids living in the lodging house did look younger than him.

How did he not know anything!? She took a deep breath. "Alright then Dez," she said. She turned back into her room. She grabbed the door handle and closed the door. "Somethin' tells me though you may know the city you ain't... as familiar with the art of... well... bein' a newsie," she said.
She came out into the hallway and removed her hat. She placed it upside down, bill in her mouth as she twisted her long brown hair around her hand once more and then grabbed the hat, professionally twisting it so it was hidden under the brown fabric. "We can still catch the afternoon ediditon if you'd like to pick up a tip or two," she offered. And if he didn't wanna come along, she might go catch it herself. She needed the money.

"Somethin' tells me though you may know the city you ain't... as familiar with the art of... well... bein' a newsie,"
He looked a bit hurt and he rubbed the back of his neck again, a nervous habbit of his. "Well I've only been selling for a few weeks," he defended, backing up as she came out of her room. He watched her as she expertly pulled up her hair and he couldn't help but grin slightly. She was beautiful, but with her hair up and her hat pulled low, he could see how she was able to pass for a boy.

"Really?" Who was he to refuse help from the leader of the Queens newsies? Or turn down spending an afternoon with a pretty girl? He nodded quickly. "Yeah, that'd be great."

She nodded. "Sounds good." She figured, the guy could sell a pape... but she wondered if he could make any money doin' it. She chuckled a little and waved him down the stairs. "Let's get a move on, what cha say?" she asked.
"If I may," she said making conversation as they walked towards the exit of the lodging house, "what drew ya attention ta sellin' papes in the first place. And... why here?" of all places. She was curious.
