When the door opened, the bull pointed to the stocky kid in the tophat. "Would this be one of yours?" The bull asked roughly.
Dodger was already in a foul mood and he lifted his brow when the cop had South dangling from his arm. Since when did the cops bring the kids back to the lodging houses? Especially with Snyder and old man Delancey going around collecting kids lately.
Sighing the leader ran his hand through his hair, he wanted to say NOPE never seen the bloke before in his life cart him off but then again Dodger had a soft spot. He hated it sometimes.
"Ya either drop him and git out or ya drag him off to the refuge but obviously he ain't done nothing but disturb the peace if yer bringing the lad ta me.."

"Ya either drop him and git out or ya drag him off to the refuge but obviously he ain't done nothing but disturb the peace if yer bringing the lad ta me.."
The bull just scowled at Dodger and shoved South roughly into the room who tumbled to the floor and they left.
South picked himself up and brushed his jacket off before straightening his bow tie and pushing his top hat out of his eyes.
"I heard the bulls talking bout all the Ardens' plans and ow' they were sick a' dealing with the streetrats and how the efuge' is just gonna get all crowded if they keep dragging us in. They were on this street so they dragged me ere', Dodger."
South explained in his gruff british accent. He didn't live in the lodging house. He had only been in the city for a week or so. He had heard about everything going on with the newsies and the warden picking kids off the street. That's why he needed to find a home. Sharing a cold dark alley with the bums wouldn't do.

Dodger rolled his eyes and ran his hands over his hair, oh the brits were going to be the first ones to get it that was for sure. He put his hand on the kids shoulder and shook his head, "They're starting to ship kids to workhouses South, don't you be worryin about the Refuge getting crowded, they'll just double up the beds so that Snyder can line his pockets.." How the hell did that rat get out of jail anyways?

"They're starting to ship kids to workhouses South, don't you be worryin about the Refuge getting crowded, they'll just double up the beds so that Snyder can line his pockets.."
South sighed and shook his head, just as angry about it as Dodger was. In London the way the rich people treated the poor was bad but New York was almost just as worse. He sighed again and stared around at the more homey lodging house longingly with his brown eyes. He knew the lodging house was pretty crowded and he was a little scared about asking to stay. He had never really had a permanent home so settling down would be a different thing for South.

Dodger watched the kid for a moment, he almost reminded him of himself when he'd been a young lad but then again Dodger had never been caught. Sighing he ran his hands through his hair, "There is a bunk upstairs, but don't be bringing the bulls to our door more than need be alright?"

"There is a bunk upstairs, but don't be bringing the bulls to our door more than need be alright?" South's eyes widened and a cheeky ear splitting grin spread across his dirt smudged face. "Really??I mean cuz if ya don't want me to then I don't ave' to b-but...really? I'll be real good, I'll try to stay out of trouble and I'll earn my keep and I can take care of myself too. Don't you worry, I won't cause no fuss!"
He was so happy he was rambling on and on saying thank you over and over and over. He couldn't help but do a little diddy and bounce up and down in excitement. And about the last thing he said, he hoped he could keep that promise. South basically was a walking disaster.

(New Day) Shamrock walked into the living area, and looked around... He knew no one there and always had a hard time introducing himself to people. Usually he was around Byron and Pallet and they did all the talking, but he told them to give him some space and that he didn't need anyone to hold his hand... Boy, was he wishing they were here now. Shamrock looked around nervously, until he spotted a place in the corner where he could watch everyone. He walked over and sat down in the corner against the wall, and began to try to work up some courage to talk to someone...

Sitting there in the corner, Shamrock decided he wasn't ready to introduce himself to anyone yet. He decided he would go find something to do. He stood up and walked out the front door...

Danny pushed open the lodging house door forcefully, his eyes scanning for any sign of Tate. When Lucky told him she was at The Bronx LH, he assumed the girls, but after finding those bunks empty he made his way here.

Dodger was sitting on one of the warn down old couches and looked up when he heard the slam and raised a brow when he saw Danny. He'd only met the bloke once or twice but, he got to his feet. "Anything I can hep ya with mate?"

When Danny caught sight of Dodger he stepped over, his ever present calm shaken, but imperceptibly so. "Yeah, I'm lookin' for Tate, heard she was here." He said it with a slight shrug, but glanced up the steps as he spoke, resisting the urge to push past The Bronx leader.

Dodger should have known this kid right? Hell no. He only knew a couple of Spot's kids and he'd never seen this one before but, hey it was one of Spot's. Had to be, he didn't feel like he belonged to Manhattan and to be sure, there was no way the guy was a Queens kid. Tilting his head when he raised a brow he looked up the stairs.
"She is, but who might you be, mate? I don't think we've been introduced." And Dodge could be protective when he felt the need to be.

Danny sighed, rubbing the back of his neck in agitation as his eyes again drifting toward the stairs. "Danny Huges, look I'm a friend, alright?" He wasn't upset with Dodger, he was glad she was being well looked after by someone who clearly had some sense, but wasn't leaving until he saw her.

Dodger looked the guy over before he sighed and nodded his head up the stairs, the girl had gotten the tar kicked out of her and said very little to him about it. "She's upstairs in the room to the right before you reach the end of the hall.. you might want to knock and announce who you are, she's been a might jumpy.."

He nodded, making his way past Dodger and up the stairs. A might jumpy? He should think so. Passing a few newsies as he went and couldn't suppress a slight glare, and was satisfied by their scared expressions and wide birth when stepping by him. There was just something about Tate in a house full of boys that put him on edge.
