Flanna smiled. "Well that's good. I just.." She paused. "You don't have to spend the money on me, though. If we need to sell Damien to keep us going, I'm okay with that." She reached out her hand to brush her fingers over Ethan's head.

*New Day*
Rex sat on a bale of hay in the stables at the Adequate racetrack. He had done all his work that was to be done for the day. He had brushed each and every horse and fed each its proper rations of food and water. He had cleaned out every stall and put in fresh hay, and checked up on each horse to make sure nothing was bothering them. Handling race horses was no little thing, it was of utmost importance. If a horse came down sick or had something wrong with it while in the racetrack's care then that would give the place a bad name as well as perhaps a fine from the owner. Rex may have been a ditz to every thing else, but he knew horses.
Sighing, he fidgeted, bored to the point of insanity. Well, maybe not but to Rex, boredom was one of his major dislikes. He always had to be doing something, he was never sitting still. He could never do just nothing. So he stood up and paced around, looking intensely for something to do. Then he saw it, Mr. Carson, his boss' little derby hat sitting unattended by the small fenced in area just outside the stable where the horses could trot and feed. He must have been out taking care of a horse or inspecting something and in the heat had taken off his hat. A wide grin spread across Rex' face and he grabbed the hat, taking off for the horse stalls.
He placed it on top the head of a tall gelding and then admired his handy work, before cracking up into a fit of laughter. Mr. Carson was going to explode when he saw what Rex was up to this time, but Rex knew Mr. Carson was a softy on the inside, and would never fire him. That's why Rex risked these little pranks. After all, he had to amuse himself somehow didn't he?

Slowly Muse walked around looking at all the horses a smile gracing her lips. It reminded her of home. Looking towards the area where she heard a laugh come from she pushed her cap higher off her eyes to get a better view. Chuckling she crossed her arms and walked towards the Boy and the horse. "Ya know, I don't think da horse likes that." She said still chuckling

"Ya know, I don't think da horse likes that."
Rex was still laughing hard, holding his stomach from laughing so hard. He just shrugged with a wide boyish grin and took the hat off the horse's head saying, "Sorry Timber," to the horse and patted its side.
"Yeah, well, I had to find some way to amuse myself, didn't I?" Rex asked, chuckling softly now and dusting his hands off on his dirty trousers. He knew he smelled just like the horses, manure. But he had gotten used to the smell, he loved horses so it didn't bother him.
"Fine horses, ain't they? Most of them pure breeds, I reckon."

Laughing she nodded, "I understand that. Playing pranks is alot of fun. Ain't that right Timber?" She asked the horse now that she knew it's name.
Walking forward she agreed, "Their beautiful." Petting the horses main, she smiled over at him. Lifting her right hand she held it out to him, her tan shirt sleeves rolled up to her elbows. "I'm Muse."

"I understand that. Playing pranks is alot of fun. Ain't that right Timber?"
Timber tossed his head up and down, pawing and letting out a playful whinny. Rex laughed and smiled, walking over to pat the horse as well. "Good ol' Timber," he remarked, shaking his head, his grin never fading.
"I'm Muse."
Rex nodded and smiled, taking her hand and shaking it. "Alexander T. Sanders, but you can call me Rex."

Giggling at the horse's playful response, so to speak, she gently patted Timbers forehead.
"Alexander T. Sanders, but you can call me Rex."
Muse shook his hand with her calloused one. "Rex.." She said trying it out. "It suits you." Looking around at all the other horses she saw one in the corner stall that she really liked. With a wide grin she walked over and gently stroked it's side by its front left leg. "You're a pretty one ain't ya." She said almost to herself.

"Rex.. It suits you.""
Rex nodded slightly and with a scrunched up nose said, "Well its certainly better than Alexander." He wouldn't dare tell her what the T standed for, that was even worse. How he hated the middle name of Theodore. Alexander and Theodore were both to formal for him, that's why he had always liked Rex.
He eyed her curiously, and tipped his head to the side, asking, "So why they call you Muse? That's an interesting nickname"
Rex watched her walk over and start petting a beautiful horse in the corner. Rex watched Muse, having a feeling she might like horses just as much as he did. She was so gentle around them and she seemed delighted by all the horses.
"You're a pretty one ain't ya."
"That's Belle, she's the princess of all of them, and she knows it too." Rex put some brushes back in place as he spoke, busying himself with his last small tasks.

"Well its certainly better than Alexander."
She let out another giggle as he scrunched up his nose. "Da name to fancy for ya?"
"So why they call you Muse?"
Turning her head to the side she thought back to when she was named. A little smile graced her lips. "One of the boys when I first became a Brooklyn Newsie, really wanted ta be a writer. But he was goin' through a block, couldn't think of nothin' to write." With a shrug she continued.
"I just sat down next to him and we started talkin', ended up takin' a walk too, showed me everything in Brooklyn. Later that night he was just able ta start writing again. I think he was thinkin' ta much on it, sometimes it's just nice ta take a break. Now he works for a newspaper somewhere." Waving her hand around every once in a while. She realized then that she talked with her hands a lot and making a face she looked over at him.
(I hope that's not to Mary-Sue. =/ )
"Belle." She nodded starting to pat the horse again. "Would ya like some help?"

"Da name to fancy for ya?"
"Yeah, just a bit, "He replied, playfully sarcastic. "What you think somebody working around smelly horses all day would be called Sir Alexander Sanders?" He laughed and shook his head.
"One of the boys when I first became a Brooklyn Newsie, really wanted ta be a writer. But he was goin' through a block, couldn't think of nothin' to write."
Rex paused from hanging up each bridle in their own places, and turned, listening very intently, standing for once completely still.
"I just sat down next to him and we started talkin', ended up takin' a walk too, showed me everything in Brooklyn. Later that night he was just able ta start writing again. I think he was thinkin' ta much on it, sometimes it's just nice ta take a break. Now he works for a newspaper somewhere."
(Nope! I don't think that's Mary sue at all! haha I like it!)
Rex nodded and he got that wide grin across his sun tanned face again and imitated her hand motions, before laughing when she made a face at him.
"Would ya like some help?"
"Well, I'm just organizing some equipment, but if you want you can keep the horses company, they like to be talked to," Rex told her with a grateful smile.

"What you think somebody working around smelly horses all day would be called Sir Alexander Sanders?"Smiling at his sarcasm, she took her hat off and stuffed it into the back pocket of her dirty trousers. Pushing her hair over her shoulder she continued to pat Belle the smile she had never leaving her face. With a smirk she started talking with a fake hoity-toity accent. "Sir Alexander, would you be so kind as to fetch me my horse?" She fanned herself with her hand her nose held high in the air mockingly. (Woo! "Well, I'm just organizing some equipment, but if you want you can keep the horses company, they like to be talked to," Nodding she looked around the stables again looking for other horses. ‘Most of them are probably on the track,’ She thought to herself as she saw many empty stalls. Looking from Belle to Timber then to Rex she smiled as she watched him. Turning to Belle she admired the horse. “You’re a good horse ain’t ya?” She laughed as the horse bucked it head a bit as if nodding. “I knew ya were.” She gently.

"Sir Alexander, would you be so kind as to fetch me my horse?"
Keeping a straight face, though his light blue eyes were twinkling, he nodded dutifully and did a little bow before saying, "Why yes of course, my lady."
He laughed a little before turning back to hanging the last bridle on the wall and picking up some horse shoes and putting them back neatly, whistling in a chipper way as he worked. He wore a white undershirt, with a light blue collared shirt over it, the sleeves rolled up to the elbows and it hanging open unbuttoned. He took a dollar bill out of his pocket and stuck it behind his ear, before returning Mr. Carson's hat to its proper place. He watched Muse pet Belle and smiled.
"She likes ya, I can tell. If you can get through to the stuck up princess, then you are quite a charm, Muse. I think you're name fits you good as well, like you were a muse to your newspaper friend, you're a charm to the ponies," Rex grinned his slightly dopey big grin at her, the grin never seemed to leave his face and he was usually joking or doing something crazy of some sort.

She placed her hand over her mouth to keep from laughing out loud, not wanting to scare the horses. She listened to him whistle as she leaned on Belle’s stall door. Turning her head to the side she watched as he put the dollar behind his ear a bit of confusion and interest played on her features.
"She likes ya, I can tell. If you can get through to the stuck up princess, then you are quite a charm, Muse. I think you're name fits you good as well, like you were a muse to your newspaper friend, you're a charm to the ponies,"
Laughing she looked at Belle. “Well, I don’t know about that… I never considered myself a horse charmer. I lived on a farm when I was back in Massachusetts, I know that you have to take it slowly, and gain their trust. Right?” Smiling she looked over at him. “But thank you for the compliment.” Walking over she sat on a flat bale of hay. “So tell me about yourself?” She asked interested. She like to getting to know peoples histories, what they had seen, if they’ve traveled, she loved listening to stories of their adventures.
