Once everything was finally back in place and Rex did a quick last check around the stable to make sure everything was like it should be, he sat down on a bale as well.
“So tell me about yourself?”
Rex usually didn't talk much about his past at all, and he slightly kept his gaze on his shoes for a moment before looking into Muse's blue eyes and nodding. He felt like he could trust her, and although Rex wasn't really shy, he didn't really have many friends at all..besides the horses.
"I grew up in Wisconsin, an only child. My old man was a big name, had his own fur line. I guess I was always just different. I didn't care about the things my parents cared about or what the society cared about. I was outside every minute I could be, or in the stable with the couple horses we had. Never did exactly what I was told, never got good grades. Since I was really the only true heir to the family business, they always were trying to break me into their perfect little son. I never cared about the different class systems, wealth, or reputation. So eventually I got sick of it. I would never be something they would be proud of. I didn't like being pressured so I left...figured I'd show them. Do what I really wanted to do. Atleast I'm working honest wages for a living, making my own way, not just sitting at some desk. Haven't seen or heard from them since..."
Rex finished and took a breath, surprised he had let all of that out. He traced the lines in the palm of his hand a little shyly before asking, "So a farm in Massachusetts? I always wished I could live on a farm. What was your family like, Muse?" Rex asked curiously watching her and fingering his dollar.

Muse sat quietly listening to his story. She nodded every once in a while. Only once he was done talking did she say something. “You should be proud of yourself.” She said quietly, a comforting smile on her lips as she leaned back a bit her hands holding her up.
"So a farm in Massachusetts? I always wished I could live on a farm. What was your family like, Muse?"
A sad look crossed her eyes as she looked up at the roof of the stalls. “My family. They were probably the most caring people ever. Anyone and everyone were welcome at our house for anything.” She smiled at the memories. “My mother was so sweet; she would never let you leave the house on an empty stomach, she often made the farm hands stay for dinner before they headed home and she always made sure the house was spotless. Papa was an honest man, he was always working on things to make the farm better, fixing things here making sure the chicken coop was safe from any foxes.
“We always went to church on Sundays, and I often helped my mother bake for the town fairs. My brother, Thomas, was always more adventurous then me,” She stopped for a second then continued. “He would always help me with my chores after his were finished and then we would usually play with our dog Toby till it was time for supper.” Sitting up again she sighed. “My parents died when our house caught on fire when I was 11. Thomas, being 13 at the time, was sent with me to the local orphanage. He left soon after saying that he would come back for me... but he didn’t. I still don’t know what happened to him.” Looking over at Rex she smiled sadly, “So I left 2 years after he did, and now I’m here.”

Rex listened to her and tried to imagine all the wonderfulness of what it would be like to have a family that actually cared. He smiled a small smile, leaning back and closing his eyes for a slight moment before saying, "They sounded wonderful...I bet you miss them alot. I'm sorry about what happened."
Rex hated being sad, or seeing people be sad, he knew sadness was a part of life, but he didn't like it any more than he liked being bored. He thought of something to lighten the mood and took out his dollar bill, holding it up proudly.
"This is my lucky dollar, I've had it for five years." He grinned.

“I do miss them, but it’s okay, I’ve come to except that they’re gone.” A pleasant smile taking the sad ones place.
Laughing a little she leaned towards him. Eyeing the dollar curiously, she raised one eyebrow in amusement. “What’s so lucky ‘bout it?” She asked her eyes twinkling with curiosity

“What’s so lucky ‘bout it?”
Rex's grin grew, like he was keeping a special secret that only he and her could know about. He took a nice whiff of the dollar and then let out a loud contented smile, his eyes twinkling just as much as hers. Rex was seventeen years old, but really, he was just a big old kid and would always be one.
"Cuz, it still has that money smell, and as long as it has a hint of that nice ol' green smell, its lucky!"

Laughing she leaned back on her seat, her eyes closed. She liked Rex, She decided, he seemed like a good friend to have. He was friendly, funny, and easy to talk too. She would have to make a point to come see him a couple times through out the week after she was done selling.
"Cuz, it still has that money smell, and as long as it has a hint of that nice ol' green smell, its lucky!"
"Now, it just needs ta stay lucky." She said as her laughs started to die down and she could breath again.

"Now, it just needs ta stay lucky."
He grinned and nodded vigorously, "Ain't that the truth! I dunno what lucky thing I'll have when my dollar stops being lucky, and that would be a problem."
He grinned and twiddled his thumbs, sticking his dollar back behind his ear and flashing a grin at Muse. He liked Muse, a lot. He had never had a friend before beside his horse King but he felt like Muse was his friend already.

"Ain't that the truth! I dunno what lucky thing I'll have when my dollar stops being lucky, and that would be a problem."
Smirking she grabbed a horse shoe and held it up to him. "Would this work as a lucky charm?" She gave him a full smile now to show that she was just teasing him. After all that's what friends are for.
Laughing, she used the iron shoe to gesture to the dollar now behind his ear. "Why do you keep it there? Ain't ya afraid of losin' it?" She placed the horse shoe back neatly where she had found it.

"Would this work as a lucky charm?"
Rex grinned and shook his head before saying as if Muse was silly, "No, silly! That's too heavy. I'd probably just drop it on my foot all the time, and trust me, that really hurts. And it wouldn't fit in my pocket!"
Why do you keep it there? Ain't ya afraid of losin' it?"
"Nup, I wouldn't let a fly touch my lucky dollar. And nobody can see it when its in my pocket."

Muse nodded. "Papa used to drop them on his foot all the time. Always heard him cursin' from the barn." Laughing at the memory, she pushed her hair out of her face. She fell quiet after that. Picking at the bale of hay she was sitting on, she tried to think of something to say. Laughing at herself she threw the hay at him.

Rex picked a piece of hay out of his hair and gave her a mock glare that lasted for a whole minute, before Rex threw back his head and burst out laughing. He finally stopped his laughing and grinned at Muse, loving the feeling of having a friend. He stood up and grabbed some hay and dumped it all over her head before shooting out of the stable laughing.

She sat in shock for a second, not even bothering to take the hay out of her hair. Laughing, she quickly got to her feet and darted after him. "GET BACK HERE!!!"
She hated her short legs, she would never be able to catch up to him. "I wish I had longer legs!" She mumbled to herself as she start to gain some ground.

"GET BACK HERE!!!"
Rex laughed and kept running, glancing behind him to see if Muse was catching up. He was running and running until ducked behind a pile of hay pales, waiting for Muse to reach it and then snuck up behind her and caught her from behind, dumping some more hay on her and falling on the ground laughing.

Letting out a yelp, she pushed the hay off of her and grabbed a pile between her hands and threw it at him. Laughing she shook her long hair out as bits and pieces of hay dropped out. Pushing more hay on top of him she dusted her hands off with a smirk on her face.

Rex laughed as well, covered from head to toe in hay and laughing so hard, tears were streaming down his face.
Mr. Carson approached the two teens, and his employee, and looked down at his employee and shook his head, walking away mumbling. "For the love of san hill that boy gets crazier and crazier everyday...."
