Job shook his head and huffed. "That's pretty bad." He said to her. "I'm sorry... I don't mean to be rude; The name's Jib." He told her. His mind floated back to the problems of the newsies, "Well, if you're ever stuck sleeping on the streets again, come stay at my place. I'm sure my old, beaten couch is better than the ground or a box." He didn't want to see anyone end up on the streets. "I live in the Webster Avenue Apartments, second floor. My door's always cracked open, just call for me and I'll come out." He wasn't sure what he could do about food, but he'd try to help.

"Well thank you. That's awfully kind of you to offer that." Piper thanked with honest and hope in her tone. She would like to at least sleep on a couch, but then the thought of intruding in this guy's apartment and sleeping on his bed was a bit odd for her to take in. SHe had to be respectful to his boundaries.

Jib grinned, "And don't think I'm trying anything." He assured her. It wasn't like he wanted anything from her or wanted her to do anything. "I'm not trying to get you to my apartment for any reason." though, she was pretty and very nice. "I mean, I just can't bear to see people on the streets." It wasn't like he used his whole apartment. He invested in a larger place because he hoped it would satisfy him in the long run.

"OH no worries, I know what you mean. The Lodging House sn't so bad really, though I'm mostly around boys my age and all i hear is boy conversation. It's pretty tough sometimes, but it's better than being alone. They're like my family in Manhattan, they look after me and help me out when I need, and I would do the same in return if they needed me." Piper explained as she shifted her weight on the bench, running her hands through her hair.

Jib smiled, happy that she understood where he stood. "That's nice, you know, to have people like that." He realized that having people like that was the one thing he didn't have since moving to New York. "I don't really have that anymore. But I know it's a nice feeling." He watched her as she shifted her seat and played with her hair. He didn't know if she was nervous, so he backed up a bit to give her room.

Piper looked at him when he said he didn't have anyone like the family she had at the Lodging House. It made her sad to think he was alone in his apartment. But he seemed like a okay guy to talk to, vivacious and friendly.
"For someone as nice as you, you should be around good friends." Piper replied to him.

Jib gave her a thankful smile. "I guess I got so wrapped up in work that I never thought about it." He could be a very devoted guy when it came to work; maybe a little too devoted. "Well, you could be one of my good friends." He let a smile flush over his questioning look. She was nice and sweet, the kind of friend a person looks for.

"That would be great." Piper thanked from his offer and smiled genuinely at him.
"I can understand what it's like to be devoted to something pretty hard, it's pretty understandable. Being a Newsie does bring out your devotional side when it comes to carryin' the banner and getting your pay." Piper explained to him in her smile.

Jib smile widened when she agreed. It was nice to find a friend; especially someone who'd call themselves your good friend. "Oh, I'm sure." He agreed. "I mean, it's a tough life - I even tried it once - one you can't do and be unhappy. You don't sell papers if you're unhappy." He admired that level of devotion; especially during these times when so many newsies were still set on being newsies. "It's an honorable trade that doesn't get enough praise."

"I agree. It is a honorable trade to sell papers to everyone, and sometimes people would look to us as lower than dirt. But hey, we brush that off our shoulder all the time and not let it bother us, because most of us have high dreams of getting out of here and being rich or being successful," Piper explained to Jibs how most of the Newsies would think about their futures,"Take my leader. He wants to go to Santa Fe and find his folks out there."

(Sorry about taking too long to post. Just hectic times)
Jib smiled and nodded. "I couldn't imagine dreaming about getting out of New York." He looked around. "I actually had dreams about getting to New York." Jib looked at Piper, interested, "Do you dream about getting away; leaving this place?" He hoped if she did, her dreams didn't take her away too soon.

"Well, since I grew up here I've grown to love this place. But lately I've been wanting to go out to San Francisco and see the busy life there. It must be different, with al of the landscapes and jobs there. Though I would hope it was the same as New York, always busy and crowded, lots of things to see and do and diverse people." Piper reported her thoughts from her head out loud/

Jib listened to her talk. San Francisco did seem interesting. He gave a short chuckle at Piper's last statement. "I don't think any place would be the same as New York." He looked around. "Really, I don't think any place could be the same as here." He thought back to the places he's been. "Going from place to place I got to know many places, some were similar... but none were like New York." Jib paused for a second, then looked at Piper. "If you ever get there, good luck. I hope it's everything you want it to be."

"Oh I don't tend to move there for quite sometime, it's expensive just to go on a train or even a ship to go over there. But thank you for your concern. I hope it'll go well out there." Piper exclaimed with great enthusiasm and excitement. She smiled and saw her hair going in front of her face again. She sighed and pushed back the red strains, making sure she could actually see.

Jib smiled and nodded. "It's always the poor with the biggest dreams." He shrugged and looked around, "Maybe you'll change your mind before that time comes." He laughed. "Who knows, you may end up wanting to go somewhere else... or even stay here." Jib started to feel hungry. "You wanna go somewhere to eat?" He thought about the places. "There's the pretzel cart, pizza, bakery, a fancy french restaurant..." He didn't care, it was all up to how much food she wanted.
