Here girls can work in making clothing and other textiles.
Work days can last over 10 hours, and the girls here work 5 days a week. They used to work over 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, but the strikes stopped that.

Shiloh took a drag from her cigarette and watched the other girl's eat their lunches. They were giggling and laughing, talking about boys, and random pointless things that she didn't care about. It wasn't like any of them liked her anyway. Once half of them heard her swearing in Spanish, they pretty much left her be after that. She smirked a bit, she liked it better that way. Because what did she care about girl's like them.

Shiloh quirked a brow and struck a match. "You wont make any friends sittin' over here with me, darlin." She looked at the other girls over there giggling and shook her head. "I hope that blond one falls into her machine.. her laugh gives me a headache.."

Maggie snorted and took a drag after lighting her cigarette. "Well maybe I'm not trying to make friends with them." She smiled and put out her hand. "I'm Maggie. You sound like you're from teh West too.."

Shiloh chuckled lightly and took the girl's hand, "Shiloh." She grinned a bit and took a drag. "Colorado City and Sante Fe, how about you?"

Shiloh laughed and wiggled her fingers with a shrug, "And I plan on keeping them too.." She shook her head. "I've been here a few months.. watching the fifth avenue group over there.." she motioned to the girls laughing and giggling. "I still say the blond one needs to go.."

Shiloh took another drag and chuckled, "Alright, darlin. You got a point. They ain't harmed me none, really. They just don't like me.. and I don't like them.. guess everyone wins.." She smiled a bit. "When did you blow into town?"

Maggie shrugged. "About a month ago...me and me mother moved in with my granddad..." She coughed lightly, taking another drag off her cigarette. "...only bad part of htis job is lack of sunlight..and New York is too damn cold!"

Shiloh laughed but nodded, "I agree with you darlin. I don't mind missing the sunlight though, but coming out into the cold.. that's something I have a problem with." She took another drag of her smoke, blowing it out lightly. She looked at her new companion and smirked a bit. "What brought you out East?"

Maggie sighed. "Not me...I need that sunlight...I miss it a lot." She shrugged. "My papa died...so we needed to move back in with my grandfather back here...daddy was a 49er...went bust..."

Shiloh winced a bit, "Sorry, didn't mean to bring it up. Those 49ers are a tough lot." She gave Maggie a small smile. "You know something, aside from this stalker thieving newsboy I've got hanging around, you're one of the first people I've spent any time with.."

Maggie smiled. "Oh no worries...I believe the past is past. He tried to do right by us...and I think tryin' is what matters..." She chuckled. "Really? I've met a right nice lad...and some relatively nice girl from Brooklyn..."
