Pie shrugged and he dropped his eyes back to his plate. His fork was twirling around in the remainder of the kraut. "I don't know nothin' about cookin' so it could be fun, an' you shouldn't be doin' all the work" He looked back up at her, "that just ain't fair"

"I don't mind at all," Daisy insisted. "Especially if it's for you...I mean..." Her face deepened to a bright red as she realized what she had said. Staring down into her bowl she bit her bottom lip. "I like to cook...I don't have anyone to cook for..." She explained lamely, sighing softly and taking another bite of her soup, keeping her eyes on the table. "I could teach you....to cook I mean."

Pie had his lopsided grin back and reached over the table to poke her. He tapped her lightly on the arm then set his hand on the table besides it. "Dais, you can cook for me all ya like, with my 'healthy appetite' nothin' will go to waste" He could tell from her color she was a bit embarrassed so he tried to make her feel more comfortable.

Daisy smiled at this, her eyes shifting to his hand that rested on the table beside her arm. Slowly she reached over and set her hand on top of his, wrapping it around his fingers. "Then maybe I can make you dinner one night...soon." With a soft smile she lifted her eyes and looked into his face, "You need to come into Brooklyn anyway, you owe me a trip to the library."

The butterflies returned to his stomach as she gripped his hand. The feeling was impossible to shake when they got close, but he loved it. "Sounds like I might be needin' a bed ovah there..wait.."His cheeks turned a blaring red and he shrank slightly in his seat "that ain't what I meant..." That was a big blunder, even by his standards. Taking a deep breath he attempted to move through it, ignore it even. "Din..Dinner and dustin' off some old books, we'll make an evenin' of it after I finish sellin', and when you ain't at the bar.."

She ignored Pie's reference to a bed. She'd come to know him well enough to understand what he meant and that it had come out wrong. They seemed to be doing that a lot around one another and in some ways it was comforting to know that he was as off-kilter by...whatever it was that was going on between them. "I think that sounds like a lovely way to spend the evening," She squeezed his fingers lightly, she liked making plans with him, knowing that she'd see him again. "I'm off on Monday and...Da is gone a lot so you could...could come to my place."

Pie smiled down at her hand and gave and eager nod. "Its a date" he grinned at his own words, " I'll finish up my sellin' in the harbor so I don't intrude on Colon's territory, then swing over." He scraped the rest of his sauerkraut with his free hand, keeping the other nicely tucked under hers.

"A date," She repeated the words softly, finding herself unable to stop the smile that spread across her face. She was so enamoured with the idea she was already mentally planning the menu and going through everything she needed to get done at the apartment before Monday. "I'm in the buildings over on King's Highway...do you know where that is?" She frowned a little, hoping he did.

Pie giggled at her frown, finding it irresistable. "Yeah, I'm sure I can find it Daisy" He slid his hand out from underneath hers so he could count out some change. He left a nice little pile on the edge of the table. With a snap of one of his suspenders he looked up at her, his eyes slightly saddened. "Now that I got enough food to hold me ovah for a week I bettah go earn some money" he patted his tummy before and pulled his hat and jacket back on.

"Aye..." Daisy smiled up at him, standing up to pull on her own coat. "I have to be at work soon anyway. But thanks...for lunch." She looked down at their emptied plates and felt herself grow sad at the thought of not seeing him again for a few days. "I had fun."

"Me too" Pie agreed and finished buttoning his jacket up. He looked around awkwardly for a minute trying to make up his mind. Finally he bit the bullet and engulfed her in a giant hug. Picking her up gently he spun her around once with a little giggle.

Stunned by the action, Daisy could do little more at first than let out a surprise squeal. But as he picked her up and spun her around her arms settled around his neck and she buried her face into his chest, squeezing him tightly. When he'd stopped and gently set her back down on the ground she looked up at him and after careful consideration she stood on tiptoe and brushed a quick kiss aganist his cheek, near the corner of his mouth.

Pie grinned from ear to ear, not expecting the little kiss but throughly enjoying it. He was relaxing somewhat around her, though he still had his bashful moments- those would never cease. He returned the peck with one to her forehead, where he had bumped her before. "Still no bruise.." he commented, relieved that he hadn't hurt her after all.

"Your head's not that hard," Daisy teased lightly, slipping her arm through his as they headed for the door. She was anticipating Monday now more than she ever thought possible. When she had set out from brooklyn that morning with the pie she had never imagined that this would happen. Reaching her hand down she linked her fingers through his, wanting the contact for a few more minutes. "What...should I make you for dessert? On Monday?"

He swung their hands through the air, just as he had at the Lodging House. With the other hand he held the door for her. "Bread puddin'? I ain't had that for years..." he hummed merrily thinking of the weird baked concoction. The tune stopped and he raised an eyebrow, "if ya know how to make it..."
