&NewDay;
Zero stood outside Jack's room with Cherokee by her side. Raising one hand, she hit the door lightly, a knock, once, twice, three times.
After this, there was nothing else to do but wait.

Jack was in a foul mood. THings had not been going well, and he just needed a break--not that a leader ever got one.
Hearing the knock at his door, he opened it with a sigh. "...yes?"

Zero studied Jack's face for a moment before motioning to the dog and writing on the chalkboard, 'are dogs allowed in the Lodging house, or does he have to stay outside?'

Jack raised an eyebrow. ...we suddenly got two silent girls in the newsies...strange
He leaned against the railing of his door. "...not normally, unless he is essential to your wellbeing" He paused. "Like if yous were blind, and needed the dog."

She nodded her head slowly. 'Anywhere in particular I could keep him then? Just... he doesn't like being all alone... is there someone who could watch him, or maybe just... well...'
Zero shrugged, trying to think of another plan for Cherokee's sleeping arrangements.

Jack thought for a moment. Clearly the girl depended on the dog. "Hows about you keep him in the basement?" He nodded. "It would keep others with allergies from gettin' sick in all, and you could see him down there.."
He raised an eyebrow to the girl. "...sound good?" He wondered if this girl was mute by choice or by birth--but he didn't care to pry.

Again, another nod, and a thankful smile. Zero was starting to enjoy being a newsie...
Cherokee licked Jack's shoe before prancing off down the hallway, and Zero gave another smile before running after him.

New Day
SlingShot knocked on Jacks door. This was the first place she came when the war was officially over. She wanted to finally talk to Jack without being afraid.

Jack hadd been going the news paper when he heared a knock at his door. Can my kids not survive without me for a day? he thought, exasperated. At this rate he was never going to get down to Queens.
When he opened the door, his eyebrows rose, a bit surprised. "Slingshot--whatcha doin' here?"

Jack couldnt help but smile a bit, his mood lifted. Slingshot was a good kid. "..So what's goin' on Slingshot? Just using your new found freedom to move without gettin' soaked? Or sumethin' more than that?"

SlingShot's grinn broadened. "I just wanted ta talk ta ya without bein' afraid a' gettin' soaked! And to thank you again for letting me go befoah. Although I'm sure Davey told ya all about how I repaid ya, huh?", she said, sure that Davey had already mentioned things to Jack.

Jack's eye twitched, the vein on his right cheek started popping out as he tried to maintain control.
"...No, amazingly David left out tell me what you did. Do tell...?"

SlingShot noticed the twitch and hesitated. "He... he didn't tell you?"

Jack shook his head and managed to put a smile on his face. It wasn't Slingshot's fault, whatever happened.
"Nah...we've been real busy..what didn't he tell me?"
