Alley tensed when she saw lucky. Her head bent lower she had the desire to run and run far far away. But something told her she needed to stop running. She nodded at Isabela spoke to her knowing that it was true. "thanks" she mumbled her eyes still on the ground not wanting to look up until Lucky left. She thought better of it. "You have something more important." She got up and darted out of the tent and ran she didn't know where she'd go probably the amusement park but she just ran.

Isabela saw the girl leave and she wanted to chase after her. But with Lucky here for a lesson, and to retrevie her hat, she couldn't just leave out of no where. She sighed and stood up turning towards the back. "Have you found it?" she called.

Lucky shook her head. "No." She was looking all over the place for her hat and sighed, her eyes followed Alley's path and she shook her head. "I didn't mean for you to lose a client, Isabela." Her eyes searching for her hat, she pulled Sneaks's coat around her tighter and sighed. "Really.. I didn't mean any harm.."

"It's quite alright dear," she said smiling. "I've had so much business recently it was bound to happen at some time or another. Isabela looked around the room for the hat as well, she had left it right there... where could it have gotten to? She then realized that Lucky was wearing a Jacket that she had remembered seeing on Sneaks. "I take it you and... Sneaks," she said careful to use his nick name, "have been getting along rather well?" she asked pointing to the coat which Lucky was currently wearing with a sly smile on her face. She understood that, they seemed rather compatable to her. Card handlers (gamblers and fortune tellers alike) could always find common ground.

Lucky started to stutter and then flushed a bit, "Umm yeah..." she smiled a full on genuine smile. "He means a lot to me.." She watched Isabela curiously for a moment. "But I have a sneaking suspision you knew that would happen..."

"I have yet to read your cards," she said with a sly smile that being her only answer. Though she distinctly remembered reading Sneak's cards. He was her first New York client, and the first newsie she ever met. And... had the two of hearts not been in his imidate future? "Speaking of card reading, would you still like me to teach you?" she asked with a smile as she changed the subject purposely.

Lucky nodded, "That is partially why I'm here after all." she stuffed her hands into the pockets of the coat, raiseing her eyebrow at how quickly Isabela changed the subject. There was alot about Sneaks she didn't know, she figured Isabela knew a whole lot more at any rate. Shaking her head she took a seat and got comfortable in the chair. "Okay, teach away.."

Isabela nodded smiled at the young girl. She walked over to a box and opened it. "First of all, one of the most imporant things is to understand the names of the cards." She took out a very old deck of red playing cards, much worse for wear that looked older than Isabela herself. "These were my cards when I was learning to read them," she said. She took the cards out of the box. She laid them out, it so happened the Two of Spades was on the top. Across the cards was writtien a single word. 'Ganancia.' "In English this word means Gain," she said with a smile to Lucky. "You may want to get a deck of playing cards to label for yourself to learn what they all mean until you have them all memorized. It will make telling fortunes go a lot faster in the mean time." She put the cards back into a deck and put them away.
"The next important thing is the formations. The easiest way to explain one might to just simply... demonstrate. I could read your fortune if you'd like," she said. After all, it would save time, and it might be kinda fun.

Lucky nodded a bit, though she was always aprehensive of the future. "Go ahead then... if it' the best way to learn.." she watched Isabela a moment, yes, she deffinently resembled Mama. She didnt' tell Isabela that she had a almost photographic memory, tell her something and give her a picture she rarely forgot it.

She nodded as she continued to shuffle the cards. "That is if you'd like me to. It helps if you're acctually willing. I'm not going to do it if you don't want me to," she said. "I can read someone else's instead and explain it just as well," she said nodding. She just thought one of the best ways to learn was through demonstration and practice.

Lucky thought about it a moment before she nodded. "Read them Isabela, I'm not anxious but I do want to know.." She almost needed to know now, skating threw life wasn't working anymore.

Isabela nodded. "Of course," she said as she sorted through her deck to find the ten o f clubs. "For this reading I'm going to use this to represent you. I'm just going to do a general reading right now. The ten of clubs is the significator... or the person who requested the reading, in this case, you. For different readings we use different suites, and for different people we use different cards. I'll explain that later though," she said. She was wasting time explaining too much now. She'd fill in the blankes later. She started laying out cards. First a row of three, then a card off to the right and half way down the first row. She then laid down a second row, the middle card getting sat on top of the ten of clubs. After the second row she sat down yet another card off to the side and half way down the second row. Then she laid down one final row. Isabela pointed to the rows in order. "Past, present future," she said meaning the three rows of cards. "This top card off to the side here is the transition between the past and present, and this card," the one below it, "is the transition between the present and future. This is the whole set up, really fairly simple. Then you simply do the cards in order. The row on the far left is opposing, the middle is affecting, be it good or bad, and the right is the assisting." Now everything was set up, so she could continue from here. "As far as a charge is concerned, no worries, you being my student I won't worry about tit too much. Oh, and, it's usually helpful to along the way maybe guide the person in what the cards mean for their life. You never know, you may hit it right on the money. But be sure to aknowledge both positive and negaitve sides of the issue, if it calls for it.
She started with the card in the upper left hand corner. "This card opposed you in the past. That means it was against you," she explained. She turned the card over to show the nine of spades. "This card means Arrogance. Now, this could be your arrogance, or the arrogance of someone else that affected you in a negative way," she explained. "In this case, if it isn't your own arrogance then it's very possible that someone else's arrogance angered you, causing something that was not goot to happen," she suggested.
She moved on to the card in the middle of the top row. "This card affected you in the past. Though, it may be in a positive or negative way." She turned the card face up. The King of Clubs was the card. "This card can mean one of two things, as do most of the face cards as well as the aces at times, as well as tens." Now that she got the education part out of the way here she could explain the card. "This means either Foresight, which is the ability to predict something before it happens. It may be just a simple prediction, but it affected how you approached the problem. It could also mean a man of great mental capacity," she added.
"The next card assisted you in the past, meaning it was a good thing," she said. She turned over the four of hearts. "This card means Inspiration. It's very possible that you got the inspiration to do something that would assist you," she suggested. "Or perhaps you sinspired others and that helped you as well." It made good sense to her anyway.
Isabela moved next towards the card that was between row one and two. "This card is the transition between the past to the present," she said. She turned the card over to find the death card. "This card is the symbol of death," she said staring at the black joker. She'd heard something about this card recently. "This card could mean a major change in your life, not necissarily death, but the ending of a major event in your life, be it a good or bad event," she explained. She was proud of herself for remembering that new information.
The second row was next. "This is the row representing the present," she said as she pointed to the middle row. The first card was the one to the left. "This card opposes you at the current time," she said. She turned the card over and found the jack of spades. "This card means two things. One, it could mean a young man of power, or two, it could mean change. Change in a bad way, something that you should try to avoid, if at all possible, for it is against you," she stated.
Next was the card in the middle of the reading, covering the ten of clubs which was currently being used to represent Lucky. "This card is affecting you at the current time," she informed her friend as she turned over the card to show the Queen of Diamonds. "This card could mean two things as well. It could mean a woman of material wealth, or it could mean Vanity. Keep in mind that this card could be affecting you in a positive or negative way, and not necissarily one or the other, it may be a combination of both," she added.
She then moved onto the card that was on the right of the middle row. "This card is assisting you at the current time," she said. She turned the card over showing the five of spades. "This card represents Competition. In this case, you will probably win because of the location of the card in the assisting area. Then again, losing never hurt anyone. Some say that you learn more by losing than by winning. So keep in mind sometime in the future that if you lose, you may have actually been the one winning," she said with a sly smile.
Now came the card that was off to the right and half way between the second and third row. "This card is the transition between the present and future." Isabela had a very VERY good feeling about this card. She picked up off the table completely hiding it from Lucky for a moment as she looked at it. Slowly a smile came across her face as she sat the card down on the table. It was the two of hearts. So, the question here was, had Isabela planned this, or was it mere fate that this card appeared there? "This is the Involvement card," she explained, "also known as the lovers card. Sneaks had this exact same card in this exact same location," she informed Lucky. However, she still had a future to predict, so she moved onto the next row.
"This is the future row, and this card," she said pointing to the card to the far left corner," is going to be opposing you." She turned the card face up and found the two of spades. "This card, means gain," she said with a small smile, it simply made her laugh that she had shown Lucky this card earlier that day. "Now, my assumption is be careful of exactly what you get, and where and from whom you get your things. For it is the gaining of such things that will be against you. This goes as far as gambling as well, you may bet over confident, and the gain of money will make you greedy, yet be your ruin in the end."
Only two cards left. "This card," the card in the middle of the bottom row, "is what will be affecting you in the future," she said as she turned the card face up. She showed them the eight of clubs. "This card means Instability. Now, keep in mind this may be negative or positive. It may be your instability, or someone elses, getting them into trouble, which may benefit you. We'll just have to see how it turns out."
She was down to the last card. "This card will assist you in the future," she said with a smile as she turned over the card, the eight of spades. "This card represents loss. Before you go getting upset that you're going to lose something, this will be of benefit to you. Perhaps someone else will lose something causing you to find it, or maybe you'll help them find it. There are several other ways that this could affect you in a positive matter.
Isabela was satisfyed with the reading. "And that's how y0u do a basic reading. Be sure after every reading to ask if the person has any questions so that you can clear up anything they want to know. So, I'll ask you... do you have any questions?"

Lucky bit her lip as she thought about it, she hadn't been all that causious as far as Sneaks went, though she was comfortable with what she knew she nodded a bit. "I see... I know what the past means..my father was a great card player, one of the best I'd ever seen. He was killed playing a high stakes game, he accused the wrong man of cheating.. I played cards, to be closer to him." She touched on the other card. "I don't know what the present cards mean but they seem like a warning, to keep out of trouble. There is a lot going on, a lot I want no part of, dangerous things that I worry about. It affects me I guess, even though I try to avoid it like the plague." She shook her head at the lovers card. "So, that means he's a part of my future does it? I think I'm fond of that idea." She bit her lip and furrowed her brow. Getting things, gambling, that was all part of who she was. Though that to was almost a warning. "I need to keep out of a high stakes card game if I can... " That's what she saw, her eyes focused on Isabela. "That's what it means to me at any rate."

"And that's the important thing. After all, this is your reading. I don't know you as well as others, or as well as you know yourself, so some of these questions you can only answer yourself," she said indicating the table. "It's rather interesting concept though isnt't it?" she said with a smile. She slowly started to clear the table of the cards to put them back in her deck and shuffle them.

Lucky nodded, she'd actually tried not to think to hard about her future, it scared her, so she didn't try to think about that to hard. She smiled softly, the concept was intersting, her mother had always said that the cards speak to the heart.
"When I was small my mother used to tell me stories. I remember her very clearly, the way she spoke, and laughed. she was always laughing. She did a reading once, for a man, I never knew who it was. He'd been angry when he left, threw things. Pop had been out playing cards, I don't think he ever knew. A few weeks later she was gone. I don't know anything other then I woke up crying and she was there, holding me, shushing me. Then she was gone." She gave Isabela a grin. "Being around you always makes me think of her. She was always smiling, like you."
