SlingShot winced as the scissors began doing their work, and a few tears escaped her eyes. She immediatly regretted giving him permission to cut her hair and she bit down on her lip to keep herself from telling him to stop. .... He wouldn't cut it too short... right?

He cut it about mid neck, just a little above her shoulders. It was fairly short, but he liked her hair short. "There we go," he said once he'd finished. "Done, take a look," he said motioning to the mirror again. He took the sciossors over to a set of drawers. "You look beautiful."

SlingShot got up and stepped over to the mirror. As her reflection appeared, she gasped. Where had all her hair gone? She bit her lip. She didn't like it. And she didn't think she looked beautiful at all. But she couldn't do anything about it now, could she?

Nick soon reappeared in the door way. "Pretty as a picture," he said. "But something is missing..." he studied her appearance. "You might need a little more on your face, make-up that is. Just around the eyes and cheeks... and a darker color on your lips would be much more attractive. I'm sure that would fix it right up. You'd look like an uptown woman then. Barely recognizable," he said smiling to her, making it seem like a good thing, for that was the image he was trying to create. His total intention: build up her confedance and self-esteem and at the hight of her glory knock her down, like he had for Flanna and Miss Murder before her.

SlingShot turned and faced him as he spoke. More makup? She thought she had too much on as it was. She hesitated a second, biting down on her lip again. "...Why?"

"It's light, I mean, I can barely tell it's there, you look nearly pale. I think you've got too much of that... full face stuff on," he meant the base. "It made you totally... white. Just darken it a little, it will look much better, you trust me, then we'll go out and maybe get to work. Okay?"

SlingShot took a deep breath. She didn't understand. She didn't see why she had to change so much about herself. She hesitated, ready to fight him on it, then sighed. What was a bit of makeup? She sat down and made short work of it, doing exactly what he had told her to do without a word. As she finished, she looked in the mirror, scooting her hair away from her face. She smiled a little. She newsie she had been when she walked in here was gone.

He smiled at her. "There's that beautiful girl, so... let's go make some money, what do you say? Oh, there is just one thing... it's a wise choice, now that you've joined our group here... not to leave any time soon," he said to her in a tone that wasn't very warm, or loving at all. "My boss wouldn't be too happy about that you know," he said with the gentle face reappearing.

SlingShot nodded at first, then bit down on her lip at his second comment. The friendly tone of voice that had sucked her into everything had disapeared, and this one was frightening. But it came back and she shrugged it off. "Don't worry.... I dun' wanna goa back..." she told him with confidence.

He nodded to her with a warm smile. "Just don't cause any trouble then, and we won't have any problems!" He led her towards the door. "Where would you like to try your hand first?" he asked her.

SlingShot nodded back at him in confirmation. She followed him and shrugged at his question. "No' in Brooklyn", she muttered. In the back of her mind, she was still afraid of Spot finding out about her having joined the Raconteurs, and didn't want to help his chances by wandering all over his borough.

He nodded. "Good plan. Why don't we just stay in the Bronx for now. How about we go down to Harlem River? The river bank's usually a good place ta find people. Sound like a fair plan to you?" he asked to her as he continued down the stairs towards the front door.

SlingShot followed him slowly down the stairs. She nodded, then realized she was behind him and he couldn't see. "Yeah" She waited a few moments, then told him. "I've never stolen anythin' befoah...."

"That's okay, it's not that hard. And lookin' like that you'll blend into the crowed rather well, trust me. You just walk up behind someone who's not paying much attention and take their walet, purse, whatever it may be. And keep your eyes open for lose jewlery that they won't miss too," he reminded her. He opened the front door and motioned. "After you."

SlingShot nodded nervously and stepped out the door in front of him after carefully noting everything he said to her.
