Nick opened the door slowly. He took one look at her, and she looked perfect. "Very nice, you clean up wonderfully," he said with a smile to her. "But I really think you ought to cut your hair. Such long hair only gets in the way of your beautiful face," he said shaking his head slightly.

SlingShot frowned and twirled a piece of her hair around her fingers. She loved her hair, it was her favorite thing about herself. "But... I love my hair..." she told him. "Why would I cut it?"

"There are some things that need to be taken out to make the whole portrait so much prettier," he said. "I'll cut it for you if you like. I've given several hair cuts I'll be careful," he promised her. He still needed her trust.

SlingShot bit her lip. She wasn't ready to get rid of her hair. "But... why?" She felt she was justified in asking this question, but she also felt bad, considering all this man had just done for her.

"Well look here," he said as he brought her back to the mirror. He pulled her hair back and folded it under so it looked shorter. See now look, it won't fall infront of your face, yet keeps it's beauty. You just look so more... wonderful with out all this extra length," he said shaking his head. "Trust me, you'll thank me later."

SlingShot watched her reflection in the mirror for a few moments, still biting on her lip. She glanced up at his reflection in the mirror. He HAD done a lot for her, even though he didn't know her.... she probably owed him this, even if it didn't quite make sense to her. She nodded quietly and a little sadly. "Okay..." She murmered.

He nodded to her. "Good, you're a very smart girl... though I'm not sure I caught your name, would you remind me?" he asked. He released her hair and the mirror setting it back down on the table. He headed towards the door to get the scissors.

SlingShot sighed. "Sling... they call meh SlingShot", she replied. She still wasn't sure about losing her hair, but she was willing to do it because she wanted this new life. It sounded so great...

"Slingshot? Not exactly the name for a woman like you is it? What's your real name beautiful?" he asked as he returned with the scissors. He patted the bed showing her to sit down so that he could cut her hair.

SlingShot made her way slowly to the bed and sighed. "Kristina", she answered quietly. "But I hate it...", she added, sitting down on the bed.

"Hate it? But why?" he asked as he pulled her hair back and lay a towel down on the bed to catch the hair. "A beautiful name for a beautiful girl. Well how about Kristine? Or Kristy?" he said. He was trying to do a compromise here, and in his opinion, this all couldn't be going better.

SlingShot bit her lip again, obviously a bad habit of hers. "But... why can't I be SlingShot?", she asked him, a tiny hint of annoyance in her voice. Would she have to change everything about herself?

He raised his eyebrows at her. Defyant girl, isn't she? "Well, because, it's a name for a child. You're not mere child m'dear," he said sweetly to her. "And I happen to find your real name much prettier, much more feminine." And if she didn't like it, he'd call her that anyway, so... in his oppinion, she didn't have a choice in the matter as it was.

SlingShot bit her lip. Again. She hadn't been described as feminine since the day she became a newsie. She also hated her name. Absolutly, positively, hated her name. "It's not a childs name.... its my name", she responded without thinking. She quickly bit down on her lip again. She didn't want to make him angry and take away the things he had just given her. She turned her head slightly to see if he had begun cutting her hair yet, as she hadn't been paying attention.

Nick sighed slightly. "We'll have to see, now hold still," he said putting her face forward. "I'll be careful, so I won't hurt you," he said being rather gentle. He pulled her hair back into a kind of pony tail before he laid it down her block. He kept it still before he started putting the scissors into her hair and cutting away at it carefully.
