((New Day))
The lodging house door slammed open, and someone tumbled into the room with a sharp, panicked sounding cry of: "JACK!! Jack, damnit, were are ye!!"
Looking around the room, she noted the Manhattan kids scattered throughout but didn't particularly care. None of them were Jack, which, apparently, was who she needed to talk to. Starting towards the stairs, she yelled again, "JAACK!!"

Only a few minutes after the first arrival, another disgruntled newsgirl entered the Lodging House, the door slamming behind her. A panting Firecracker arrived, her light green eyes wide, light blond hair slicked with sweat from running all the way from Brooklyn to Manhattan. She immediately turned her attention her fellow newsies.
"Where. Da. Heck. Is. JACK?" she roared, panic getting the best of her. Many cowered, unused to seeing the short girl so intimidating. The braver ones muttered something about "not knowin'", unable to meet her eyes. She turned her attention on the Brooklynite, who seemed equally flustered. She cocked an eyebrow, still angry/anxious, and being so, intimidating. "Who're you?"

Slinks spun to face the Manhattaner, grey-blue eyes wild. And angry. "Lookin' fer Jack, tha's 'oo," she snapped, eyebrow going up as well. "Why? - an' 'oo're ye?" Only after it was out into the air did she realize she wasn't in Brooklyn, and definately wasn't in her own lodging house.
But that didn't mean she was taking it back; with no Jack around, she was getting even more worried/panicked. Which meant that she would pop soon if she didn't vent. - ...Which, it seemed, she was going to do.

Firecracker narrowed her eyes, angered by the Brooklynite's attitude, especially in her panicked/anxious state. She tried to calm herself down, a small grin--or smirk--appearing upon her face. Even angered, she was laid back. Or, at least, a little more laid back than the Brooklyn newsgirl before her.
"Good ta see ya have manners," she stated sarcastically. "But if you'se lookin' fer Jack, you'se can 'elp me out. Da knucklebrains over dere," she pointed at the cowering newsies. "Seem ta know nuttin', which ain't surprisin', really. I'se got important news fer him, and by yer attitude, I t'ink we 'ave da same news."

Staring hard at the girl for a minute, she nodded hesitantly, forcing herself to calm down a notch. -...which only half worked.
"'Ve go' no idea how I'm supposed t' 'elp ye out, though; No idea were Jack is." The Brooklynite said after another minute, sounding calmer than she was. " - And, our news migh' be similar bu' I doub' t's th' same." she finished, staring back up the stairs and contemplating risking actually going up there. She was already in trouble as it was: in a room full of Manhattaners all by herself.

Jack heard the yelling, coming down the stairs quickly. "For gods sake--" He saw Fire and ...Slinks. .....Ace. Cursing silently, he spoke quickly and resolutely. "What happened to Ace, Slinks."
He knew Prince was right behind him, knowing that he would feel better with her by his side.

Prince came down the stairs after Jack, hair down around her shoulders, and a hat in her right hand. "Slinks? Oh no..." she sighed. This wasn't going to be good and she could tell. Though, the other girl looked a little mad herself... Prince didn't know her, but it appeared that these two were both rather unhappy. "What's happend?" she asked looking at the two girls.

"Ace was arrested," Slinks half-growled, anxiety returning. "Snyder showed up out 'f nowhere an' jus' cuffed 'im an' Davey and left!" This, of course, being the shortened version of what she heard from behind the door.

Firecracker nodded vigorously, having heard the same news in a Pub in Brooklyn...She wasn't about to spill her sources. It would sound wrong, and she wasn't going to give the newsies around her, the ones she teased daily, the opportunity to tease her back. A small smirk appeared upon her face, since the Brooklynite--apparently named 'Slinks'--had doubted they had the same news, and they did. Ha, teasing was defiantly in her schedule for the future.
"It's true," she confirmed. "I'se heard da same. Dey'se headed towards da Refuge now, if dey aren't already dere!"

Jack had wrapped his arm around Prince's waist, a hand playing with her hair as he heard the news.
His face went hard as stone when he heard about Ace, and more poinently, about David. There was this one vein under his right eye, when he got angry, buldged as the blood pumped through his body faster.
It was deflitenly in high relief right now.
His mind was reeling, trying to piece it all together. "...do you know exactly why Snyder did this?" He didn't even spend time thinking why David was in the Bronx. It didn't matter.
Looking down at Prince, he gave her a look that meant if she wanted to go back to Queens to avoid her father, he understood. He couldnt voice it lest the other kids figure out why he wanted her to leave to make sure she was safe.

Prince took her hat from her hands and tucked her hair back up under it. She had to be a leader now, she had to be a newsie boy, so she had to look the part to help her think the part. She wasn't leaving now... She'd avaded her father thus far, so... why stop now? She was doing so well. "I agree... what's goin' on? Why'd dey take 'em in? Did Snyder ever say?" she asked. After all... he couldn't just arrest someone for no reason... could he? Dave's never done a thing wrong in his life! Why was HE in the refuge, and Prince knowing Ace's past... was worried for him as well.

Her brow furrowed worriedly, eyes focused on her boots. "Ace mentioned something 'bout him an' someone else bein' righ'...and Snyder knowin' it." She looked up the two leaders at the top of the stairs, one hand absently stroking the end of the staff poking through a belt loop. "..An' Snyder bein' scared cos 'e'd been 'found out'." Her expression changed, a hint of anger entering the mix upon her face. "Wha's goin' on, Jack, Prince?" She asked, looking from one to the other.

Firecracker remained silent. She'd heard only of them being arrested. Jackle never said the reason. By the sounds of it, Slinks didn't know much either. She supposed it was hard to figure out even when hearing it first hand. The Manhattan newsgirl also turned her attention to her leaders. She wasn't angry with them...but she couldn't help feeling angered that they weren't telling them much. The whole war seemed more of a rumor than a reality with the newsies knowing so little about it.
"Yeah, what /is/ goin' on?" she asked the leaders', surprised she had taken Slinks' side.

Jack sighed. They deserved as much as he knew. Putting up a hand to silence them, he began to speak. "Morris and Oscar killed Spike...and Snyder was in on it." He shrugged, at a loss. "And that's all I know...but that is definitely not all of the story...something else is going on with Ace..." He looked to Prince for help. "...but I don't know anything about it."
He started pacing the floor, thinking. "We need to come up with a plan. We can't just rush in there.." He cursed. "...We need Davey." Too bad they locked him up...

"Ace..." she said quietly. "He... ain't safe." She knew she couldn't reveal Ace's past... boy he'd kill her! But she did remember talking with Ace once. He'd said his brother was in on it, so that completed the puzzle... she sighed, knowing everything Ace had said was right.
She knew Jack was right, they needed a plan, and without David... what were they gonna do? She sighed, completely clueless herself on what to do. She slumped down in the middle of the couch and put her elbows on her knees. "Does anyone know of anyone who could give us a hand? Someone who'd have a plan, or at least help us think of one?" she said looking around the room at the other three.
