"I'm sure Ace wouldn't mind." He looked at her completely serious. "I be being the true you not what other want you to be." He smiled as their food was set before them. He took a drink or water then went about eating his hotdog.

"Well, I guess I will have to see." She looked down embarrassed, but didn't know what to say to his last comment. She looked at the food and then carefully picked up the hotdog and took a bit. Sighing in ecstasy. She ate half of the hotdog and set the rest aside for Devil. Taking a sip of water she finally looked at Jackle, "Might I ask about the war?"

He expression changed but he smiled. "What do you want to know."

"Well, its just that I don't understand. I mean I've only recently learned that it was true and I don't understand." She looked puzzled and tried to figure out what the war was about and why it started. It was a hopeless case, but she tried. "I'm sorry, I know thats a sore subject for everyone. I didn't mean to bring it up, the words sort of slipped out before I could stop them. We can pretend that I didn't bring up the subject at all." Smiling uncertainly she looked down at her water.

Jackle smiled. "no it's okay, but most of the newsies don't know much either. All i do know is a Brooklyn newsie was found Dead in 'hattan. There is more to it though." He sighed he wished he could be of more service.

Sweets wandered into Tibbys, wiping her brow and searching for somewhere to sit down. Spotting an open table she took a seat. Glancing to her left she saw two unfamiliar newsies, and, being a bit surprised seeing as how Tibby's was usually full of 'hattan newises, she raised an eyebrow. "Hey, uh, you new or somethin'?" she asked, trying not to sound accusing. The war had left her still on edge, always ready for a Brooklyn newise to pop up anywhere.

"A dead," she gulped, she knew no one liked death, but she had never taken deaths well. "A newsies died?" She felt close to tears and she didn't even know who the newsie was, only that the newsie had died. When the girl started talking to them, she began to shrink into herself, but then quickly brought her chin up. She wouldn't let people intimidate her or she wouldn't let them know it. "Why do you want to know?" She regretted the words as soon as they left her mouth. She hadn't meant to be rude, but wasn't used to people asking if she was new. "I'm sorry," she mumbled, "I didn't mean to be rude. It just kind of slipped out." She looked away from the girl over to the door, she didn't see Devil. Where is that dog?

Sweets shrugged, used to being addressed in such a way. "No problem, but since ya asked, I want ta know cause I'm from 'hattan, and I haven't see ya round befoah, that such a crime?" she asked, grinning slightly.

"No, I guess it's not a crime," smiling a little she said, "I haven't been around that long. I only recently arrived in New York and since then I haven't talked to anyone I didn't have too. I've been staying near the Bronx, though I haven't actually talked to Ace." She glanced over at the door again and still she didn't see Devil. Concern filled her eyes as she looked at Sweets and then Jackle. "Have either of you seen Devil?"

Sweets had been following the girls gaze to the door as she spoke and raised an eyebrow at her question. "Well, I aint seen satan 'round if that's what ya askin'," she said wryly, giving the waitress a signal for her usual. "But if ya talkin' bout a dog, I saw one takin' off aftah the hot dog guy on my way in." Giving her a sideways grin she extended her hand. "By the way, the name's Sweets."

Her eyes widen, "You mean he was chasing...oh no this isn't good." She started running to the door and then said back at Sweets, "Spade. My names Spade." Running out the door she looked both ways trying to find Devil. Seeing the hot dog guy that Sweets was taking about she headed towards him.
Walking up to him she asked, "Did you see a black dog by any chance?"
"Ya mean da one dat stole three hot dogs before I caught him? Yeah, he went dat way afteh I kicked him," he said, "And if dat dogs yours you owe me foh three hot dogs."
Her eyes widened, "What do you mean you kicked him?" Her eyes turned to steel, "If you hurt my dog I promise you'll regret it. Every moment of your life." Devil was her family and she would defend him as her family. She wasn't going to let anyone hurt her dog and if they did they would pay.

Jackle was taken my shock really. He smiled at Sweets. When talk turned to Devil he ran out to follow Spade. He passed the hotdog guy the money for the hotdogs. "Here. YOu better not have her that dog." He walked up to Spade. "It's a sort jog to central park." He was concerned really for the dog cause most people would do as the hotdog guy would if he got near them. He also didn't want to see Spade mad.

It took her a minute to realized that he had just paid for the hotdog that Devil had eaten. Looking at Jackle she said, "No don't pay for them, I'll get it." She looked over at the hotdog guy, "Give him back his money." Spade made it an ordered, because he had already been very sweet to her and she wasn't going to let him pay for her dog. When the hotdog man was about to refuse, she took out the necessary amount and showed it to him. "I can pay for it. Now give him back his money," he was beginning to irritate her.
"Jackle, will you take me to central park, please. I really need to get Devil back, he won't be safe without me looking after him," she felt near to tears. She only hoped he was alright.

She was worried about Devil. She knew that he could take care of himself, but still she couldn't forget how she had found him. Cowering in an alley, bloody and beat up. It had taken her weeks to fix him up and her skipping more meals than she cared to count.
"Thank you for taking me to Central Park. I wouldn't want to get lost and then him get into to much trouble," She was rambling. She kept talking because she didn't want to cry. If she cried she'd feel even worse than before.
