"Dusty!" Avalanche stared at her. Maybe he'd been wrong too. "He's gonna die if we don't do somethin'..." he said. He couldn't let people die... he'd put them in jail, he'd beat them up, but he wouldn't kill them, ever. It was just his thing... dying people and him don't go together.
He kept a tight push on the wound on Rex's back. "You still there?" he asked Rex. "Answer me, will ya, say anything?"

Dusty shook her head sadly, yes she knew he would die... that was the point.
Rex groaned and stared up at Avalanche, his eyes red and bloodshot, he was unable to focus on a single thing. "Pain..." he managed to sputter.
Dusty swallowed hard, she closed her eyes a minute and put a hand to her aching head, before sinking to the ground beside Rex and Avalanche. A single tear fell on Rexs cheek and she brushed it away.
Rex looked up at the sky. "I'm... sorry..." he breathed.
Dusty bit her lip, she had fallen for that one before and she sure as hell wasn't falling for it again. Instead she put a finger to his lips to quite him. She looked up at Avalanche and shook her head.

Avalanche looked at Dusty, then back to Rex. He took his now blood covered shirt back, but didn't put it on. He had a white tank thing under it anyway, he'd live. He laid Rex on his back and closed his eyes for him. You could see the makings of tears in his eyes, but if he had anything to say about it, they would never be tears. He sighed quietly. "Why?" he asked everything in just one word.

"The world has one less wack job now..." she told him. "I'm sorry you had to see me do that..." she shook her head. "It never occured to me until not that..." she looked away as tears washed over her cheeks. "I'm sorry..." she cried.

"Just watch your back," he said quietly. "I don't know if anyone saw that, but if they did they'll tell the police, and I don't want you in jail, or anything. Avalanche finally tore his eyes from Rex's unconcious body and stood up. He didn't know what to do now.

She stood with him. "I don't know what to say to you..." she started. She then realized that it would be best if she just disapeared all together.

"I dunno what to say to you either," he said quietly to her. "But... I know that you have reasons... for what you just did. I don't hate you for it, though I may not exactly understand it, I don't hate you for it," he said. The whole time he didn't look at her or Rex, just off into the street.

She reached over and turned his chin so that he had to look at her. "Please Lanche..." she whispered. "Just don't tell anyone... please..." her tone was desperate. She fell in love with him right then and there....

"I won't, I promise," he said quietly to her, though his eyes were like iron gates, and they wouldn't let her see in them, he did that from time to time. He had no reason to tell anyone. He hurt her, she hurt him more, it was considered pay back, or that's how he would explain it if anyone asked, which was doubtful.

She gently ran her hand along his cheek and pushed the hair out of his eyes. "Your putting up walls..." she commented, seeing the stoney look in his eyes. She knew that look... it was the look that her brother had gotten in his eyes when he was upset with something that she said or did.

"Yeah... I am," he said nodding. But he wasn't going to explain why. He left the statment at simply that, but is gaze did not change, and the walls that he put up didn't weaken.

She carefully placed a gentle kiss on his lips before backing away. "G'bye Avalanche..." she whispered and with that she was gone.

Avalanche thought momentarily of chasing after her, but decided against it. Surely they'd meet again somewhere. For now he was going to take a walk... to somewhere who could help Rex, at least put him in a coffin, or bury his body, or something. He thought he'd tell the police he found a dead man in an ally, but didn't see who did it.
