"Aw, I'm sorry Milo. I'm sorry yar parents died. Did dey love you? Before they died I mean?" She asked curiously. Her own parents didn't love her so she always wondered about that.

"Yeah, dey loved me a whole lot" he answered, a dreamy look on his face "dey was real young ya know. Not too much oldah den Jack when I was born. But dey was real nice folks ta have." he finished, not quite sure what else to say. Frankly, he didn't remember all that much about his parents other than that except what they looked like (since he had a couple pictures of them), their names (which could be found on the back of the pictures), where they came from, and how they died. All of which seemed like things that Smiley might not care to know.

"Oh, that's nice dat dey loved you. Except ya must be terribly sad that they're gone. Me parents hated me. I lived on farm and they wanted another boy to help with the farmwork but instead...dey had me. Dey figured if they had to feed another mouth it should be a strong son. So when I was five, dey took me to the city and abandoned me, telling me that they were going to adopt a boy instead. They said they never wanted to see me again so don't ever try to come back home, and den....dey left." She said softly, fiddling with a loose button on her dress.

"No offense, but dat's real dumb" said Milo irately " I don' know a whole lot 'bout my parents but one t'ing I do know is dat my mama grew up on a farm in Moravia an' she worked on it jus' like da boys an' she did jus' as good a job as dey did too. an' you coulda too if dey'd givin' ya half a chance" he elaborated, crossing his arms over his chest " If dey'd do somethin dumb like dat ya' prolly too good foah dem anyhow" he continued, somewhat more gently, looking toward her and giving her a small, encouraging smile.

Smiley smiled and grinned at him. She was already happy but he made her even more happy.
"Thanks, Milo. Yar right." She said and put her hand on his, blushing a little.

"Sure am!" he said in a quiet yet upbeat voice, looking down at her hand on his. "Hey, ya wanna go see a dog wit' t'ree legs?" he asked her cheerfully "he b'longs ta one a' da dock workahs an' always jus' right ovah dere by da edge a da dock." he pointed at a corner of the dock that they were currently on which, at the moment, was obscured by a pile of crates. "He's real friendly. Leastways, I t'ink it's a he... well, eithah way it's a real neat dog." he hopped down from the crate and held his arms up to help smiley down.

when they rounded the corner of the boxes they came upon an old dog with long, scruffy black and white fur which was lying on the ground next to the edge of the dock. When the dog saw the children, he began wagging his tail excitedly and got up somewhat slowly (because of his old age), half walking, half hopping over to them on his remaining legs. "See, I told ya he's real friendly" commented Milo as the dog sniffed both of their legs and gingerly licked the back of Milo's hand. "I call 'im Marek 'cause dat was my papa's name 'an he lost his arm too, but I t'ink day da guy what owns 'im only calls 'im dog" he explained to Smiley, scratching behind Marek's ears.

((New Day))
Zeke was getting antsy and he was irritated by what was going on-- well he was also REALLY irritated by the influx of kids from other boroughs coming onto their docks and thinking they were a somebody and could challenge Brooks. It felt like a challenge, kids weren't supposed to be coming onto their docks and making themselves at home! It just wasn't done.
Lighting his smoke, Zeke rubbed his jaw. He'd taken a left hook to the side of the face the night before and he'd needed to go home and sleep it off. The lodging house had become home the last month or so-- he hadn't been putting much energy into getting a lady as of late. He felt a bit frustrated by that.

Marzena walked along the docks with her hands balled into fists inside the oversized coat she was wearing. Her look had changed a bit for the better -- she didn't look like she had just walked out from sleeping under a bridge, but there was no changing the look of her clothes or the stiffness of the dirty cloth against her clean skin. As she walked further she noticed a boy who looked familiar to her, though she couldn't place from where. She never forgot a face, but wasn't so good with names and places. Leaning against the post next to the crate the boy sat on, she removed her hands from her pockets and folded them in her arms.
"Hey, how's it goin?" It wasn't really a literally question and she gave that off in her tone. She could see he was irritated if not just a bit frustrated, which is why she stood, not wanted to let her guard down nor seem like she was invading his space. After all, she had only met the boy once.

Zeke looked up and as where his labido would kick in ages ago he got nothing, he sighed and shook his head. How was it goin? It was going shitty that's how it was going. With another sigh he straightened and drew a long drag from his smoke.
"Hellish, you?" she looked familiar-- very familiar. Sadly he had known a LOT of women and couldn't remember for the life of him if he'd slept with her before or not.
