Milo nodded "Yeah, I did it when I on da streets. I didn' know dat I could get a job an I had ta eat so..." his voice dropped off and he stared at his feet, shamefaced. "I didn' like it" he added in a near whisper. " but if it's what ya gotta do, ya jus' do it, y'know?" he looked up at her. "An', like it a' not, I'm real good at it"

"Oh..." She paused for a second before answering him. "Well, I don't like it either...but I haven't eaten since yesterday morning before my parents..." She stopped, not wanting to continue.

"Okay" said Milo, as understandingly as he could, "Do ya want me ta teach ya now?" he asked, looking around again nervously to make sure that there were no bulls around.

She bit her lip in thought, but soon gave in to Milo. "Ok, I guess." She gave him a smile, hoping that they both didn't get caught in any way.

*New Day*
Sarah sat at the edge of the old fountain in Central Park, running a finger through what little water was still in there. It was a beautiful day -- not too hot, not too cold. It was perfect. The children of New York seemed to be taking advantage of the weather. Young girls in dresses skipped along the path while the boys took turns throwing things at them. Sarah smiled a little in spite of herself. In a time where kids rarely ever got to be kids, she enjoyed the times when she could still see those with even an ounce of innocence left in them.

*NEW DAY*
Reid glanced down into the water of the fountain, thinking it was incredibly clean compared to the way most of the rest of the city looked. He ran a hand through his hair before stuffing his hands into his pockets and turning his eyes towards the sky. So many things had happened to make them leave Jersey City, Reid wasn't sure even now he'd comprehended it all. He wasn't really sure he wanted to. Honestly all he wanted was for these thoughts to go away.

Brook was waving her papers trying to get a sale, she sighed when no one was biting. She looked over towards the fountain and headed over, dropping her papers to the side of the fountain and folding her arms. "Mon Dieu.." she said that often , it was part of her charm really, in way. Her eyes flickered and she almost yelped, her hat fell off of her head when she did that and she grabbed it quickly.
"Sorry," she murmured, she didn't know anyone else was there. She laughed weakly.

Reid laughed a bit as well, "Must be one of those days, huh? Can't pay attention to anything but where your head is. Either that or you scare real easily." He smiled, looking her over a bit in a non-aggressive way. "I'm Reid by the way."

She opened her mouth and then she smiled back at him, running her hand through her hair as she set her hat back on her head. "A mit jumpy, I'm Brook Lynne.. I know, I know, terrible joke. I prefer Brook." She had a soft smile on her face as she watched him, he seemed nice. "You're a newsie to right?"

Reid grinned and nodded, "Yes I am and Brook it is though I don't see what's so wrong with your full name I understand it migh be a bit difficult to carry around when you life in New York." He gave her a wink and glanced back up to the sky. "Beautiful day, isn't it?"

She chuckled and sat down on the fountain to follow his gaze, "Well I'm from the Bayou, my papa was in love with the idea of New York.. so.." that was how she go her name. She nodded though, "It's is, sun in the sky, birds singing, it's a lovely day really.."

Reid glanced down to where she sat and grinned, "At least for the city. I'm sure you know looking at the sky from a city is a lot different than looking at from somewhere else less crowded. You like New York?" He figured most people who lived here did but he wasn't particularly partial to it.

She had to think about it, "Yeah where I'm from the stars are so close it feels like you could reach out and take them in your hand.." Her accent spoke of her southern roots, but she just smiled all the same. "New York?" she had to think about it, and after a moment she shrugged. "I like back home better, it's to crowded here... you can't really see the sky and-- it's really dirty.. but it's where the jobs are.."

Reid nodded, understanding that sentiment. If he thought he could survive without his family and find a job somewhere he would leave the city in a heartbeat, but he just couldn't do that. "I imagine it's much nicer." He closed his eyes for a moment lost in the thought of leaving before he looked at Brook and gave her a half smile. "Then again you probably wouldn't meet as many interesting people."

She shrugged, "Well I don't know but I did meet some very handsome allegators." she had to grin at her own joke. But she understood what he meant, she looked up at the sky. "I suppose I meet nice enough people.. and I have a lot of friends here.."
