<< New Day >>
Lacey hadn't really seen a lot of her friends actually she hadn't really seen much of anybody lately but...she wanted to see Les and her other friend from Queens her name is Butterfly she was like a little sister to her but Butterfly had a lot of other sisters to take care of her.
When Lacey had seen her uncle in an ally in the Bronx earlier in the day she ran as fast as she could to Manhattan that is one place where her uncle would never find her, her uncle hated Manhattan for some reason.
Lacey sat down next to the tree and put her arms around her legs and put her legs against her chest.

Milo was walking through central park , his last few papers under his arm, when he spotted a girl he recognized sitting under a tree. He had seen her before at the lodging house or the distribution center or something like that. Suddenly, he remembered that she was Les's sister though he still wasn't quite sure of her name "I think it starts with an 'S' " he thought to himself, trying to remember what it was. He hardly ever forgot a face but names were a real challenge for him."Sadie?...no...Sally?...no...Suzie?...nope....maybe Sarah? yeah, that's it, Sarah." he concluded, still watching her as she sat under the tree, eating an apple. He considered going over and saying hi but he didn't think that she'd remember him, besides, he didn't make a habit of greeting people that he didn't know very well until they greeted him first. So, he continued to stand there observing her and waiting to see if she would notice him.

*New Day*
Yesterday was a busy day for Mark. He had been trying to relax at the docks when a girl named Lucky came over and actually talked to him, which he definitely didn't get a lot at all. No one really likes talking to Mark, when he is working, that is all he does. He works, then pretty much goes home. Mark's a very nice guy, but he guesses that other Brooklyn Dock Workers don't like that kind of person...nice. When he was with Lucky, he bought her dinner, and they had a good talk. He was starting to like Lucky, but as she said, she chooses friends wisely.
Deciding he should leave Brooklyn for the day after he worked, he walked all the way to Manhattan, his favorite place, even though he lives, eats, and works in Brooklyn. Mark thought that Manhattan was calm, and a beautiful place to stay, and Brooklyn was dirty and loud. Many bad things happen in Brooklyn, especially to girls. If he saw anyone hurting a girl, he would get up right away, even though he was a very shy guy.
Walking in Central Park, he strolled over to a shaded tree and sat down under it. Leaning his head against the tree, he closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, letting it out again.

"Well, don't we look like we're having a good day?" Spotting Mark sitting by the tree, Hawkeye followed him over, hoping she'd be able to sell him a paper. Being desperate for a few spare coins, she'd bought a small stack of newspapers in the morning. It was the last of her money, but she'd sold most of the papers, so it wasn't a complete loss.
She leaned her shoulder against the trunk of the tree and glanced down at the man. Pulling a newspaper out from the stack she held under her arm, Hawkeye extended it toward Mark. "You want to buy a paper, mister?" She smiled slightly. He looked too old to be a newsboy, so she figured she was safe trying to sell him a paper. If, by chance, he was a newsie, she was fully prepared to apologize several times- she'd never seen him selling before, it was an honest mistake.
Hawkeye's creative juices weren't exactly flowing, thus preventing her from feeling inclined to tell him a fascinating headline that was no where to be found within the paper. Mostly, she'd been looking very sad all day, hoping people would feel sorry for her and buy a paper out of pity. She'd made sure to wear a rather shabby skirt and blouse to go with the image.
There was a rather strong gust of wind, which sent the paper she was loosely holding flying away. "Damn," she muttered. Glancing from the escaping newspaper to Mark, she smiled apologetically and dropped the stack of newspapers onto his lap, before chasing after the runaway paper.
"Sorry," she called over her shoulder. "Could you just...hold those for a minute?" Without waiting for a response, she jogged after the paper, catching it right before it flew out over the pond. "Gotcha!"
Making her way back to the tree she said, "Sorry, sorry- it just blew away. Y'know how these papers are with the wind and, er, the wind." She flashed him a grin and held out the paper again. "You were about to buy this," she said. "Unless you'd rather buy those." She motioned to the stack of papers she'd given him a moment before. "I don't mind if you do that instead. I can keep this one." She waved the single paper around a bit. "Your choice, sir!"

Mark just sat there with a goofy grin on his face, watching this with amusement the whole time. When she dropped the papers on his lap, he let out a chuckle. "Uh, sure. I'll buy them all if you want, how much?" Like before, Mark was always nice, no one had ever seen him be rude before. HE hadn't been pitying the girl, he wanted to be nice, and make a new friend that made friends easily, unlike Lucky, who he had to wait for her desicion.
Smiling at the girl like a goof he chuckled more again. "Your funny, you know that?" Answering her question from before, he commented,"Well, about not having a good day...not really. It's just the usual. Go to work, don't talk to anyone, go home." Sighing he gave her a very small smile.

"Uh, sure. I'll buy them all if you want, how much?"
"I- oh-...I beg your pardon?" Hawkeye's expression was nothing less then bewildered. She hadn't expected him to actually take her seriously. Assuming she misheard him, she stooped and picked up the newspapers, exchanging them for the single newspaper. Standing, she extended her hand. "One penny, please!"
"Your funny, you know that?"
Hawkeye shrugged. "Well, thanks." She grinned slightly. "Could you imagine how entertaining I'd be if I could do something really fantastic? Like changing colors, y'know? People would see me and think to themselves, 'Goodness, she's funny and she changes colors!' I would never have to sell papers again if I could do that. I'd be filthy rich!" She sounded absolutely crazed, but that wasn't anything new and Hawkeye didn't particularly care.
"Well, about not having a good day...not really. It's just the usual. Go to work, don't talk to anyone, go home."
"Ah, I see." She sat down next to him, placing her newspapers next to her. "Well, I've got a minute to spare. If you want to talk, I ain't against it." She held out her hand. "I'm Hawkeye. I sell newspapers and it's not very interesting at all. What do you do?"

"I- oh-...I beg your pardon? One penny, please!"
Mark smiled and shook his head. Giving her a nickel he said, "Keep it, at least you talk to me.." His smile turned into a frown very quickly, but then his face turned emotionless. He looked straight forward, thinking of how all the other dock workers stare, point and laugh at him for no reason.
"Well, thanks. Could you imagine how entertaining I'd be if I could do something really fantastic? Like changing colors, y'know? People would see me and think to themselves, 'Goodness, she's funny and she changes colors!' I would never have to sell papers again if I could do that. I'd be filthy rich!"
Starting to laugh, he finally got out, "Wow, your the most energetic person I've ever met, " He said with another broad smile. Mark tends to smile a lot, but he really has no clue why he does it.
"Ah, I see. Well, I've got a minute to spare. If you want to talk, I ain't against it. I'm Hawkeye. I sell newspapers and it's not very interesting at all. What do you do?"
He shook her hand and nodded his head. "Well, my job isn't so interesting either. I work at the Docks in Brooklyn. I might not seem like one of those mean, man- whores, " He smiled at her, laughing at what he said, " but, at least I'm nice to people. Sorry to dump this on you, but that is why I don't have any friends. It sounds weird, but just because I'm nice, the other workers laugh at me for no reason. And no one talks to me." Looking back at her and locking eyes, he said, "It's nice to meet you by the way Hawkeye."

<New Day>
On days when Daisy was feeling a little bit sad, a little bit alone she liked to come here and sit, under the large tree in Manhattan where she had first met Pie. It could be a bit of a walk from Brooklyn, but most days she didn't mind it and it gave her quiet moments to herself, when she could remember that first lingering encounter and the way the boy had smiled at her...how he had always smiled at her. She sighed and twisted her fingers into her skirt, refusing to allow herself to dwell. She wasn't a wallower and though she missed Pie desperately, he wouldn't want her remembering him with tears in her eyes. Straightening a little, she leaned back against the sturdy trunk of the tree and smiled, looking up through the thick branches, catching bits of blue and yellow through the green canopy. She began to hum softly to herself as she let her thoughts wander.

[New Day] What a beautiful fall day it had turned out to be. Rose kicked up leaves as she strolled through the park making her way towards her favorite relaxation place, and on some seemingly rare occassions, favorite selling spot. As she took a deep breath, the frigid fresh air tickled her nose. After recovering from a loud sneeze, she eyed down the tree that was coming closer within her reach, "Well, at least you haven't changed." She gave it a nice pat and took a minute to admire it's changing leaves. Briefly after she spun around to turn her back to the tree, sliding down it's bark and slowly making her way to the grass below. She pulled her hat down over her eyes as a heavy sigh of relief escaped her mouth, "It's good to be home."

>>>>NEW DAY<<<<
She wasn't quiet ready to go back to the Lodging House. Not yet. She had arrived a few months ago and barely stayed before her uncle found her and convinced her to return home with him, saying how sorry he was for what happened.
He told her now, seeing how little she went outside, that she could have a job if she wanted. Just for something to do after school. Dr. House noticed she hadn't many friends in school. But when they walked anywhere, especially past Newsies, she kept her hat low or turned her face away.
So now, Lara, aka Shiner to a few, sat under the shaded tree, reading a book and hoping she wouldn't be recognized by any newsies she had know. She often wondered if they missed her. She often wondered if they even cared she had left at all. She went back home when some of her new friends had sworn to protect her.
She remembered Avalanche in particular, the dock worker, who had taken her through staying at the house, who she nearly had a date with.... Jack, who had let her stay. Piper, who had showed her around... Well, at least she had paid for the nights she did sleep there...

Avalanche was heading on his way home from the lodging house actually. He'd been by visiting Jack, and thought he'd take the long route back through central park. He liked seeing people around anyway. He looked at the lovers walking down the paths, and seeing the boys chase kites and play ball. There was a lot to take in here, and he enjoyed it all.
As he walked he found a young girl sitting under a tree. He wasn't walking on the path, he saw her sitting under a tree. He snuck up behind her. He was curious to see as to who was sitting under a tree. If there was anyone sitting with a book under the tree... he would be the one to go and investigate as to why. He poked his head around the corner and round him self staring face to face with, "Shinah! Well I'll be... how you been?" he chuckled. He sat himself down next her smiling ear to ear, and just looking at her face. He didn't care what she was doin' there, or how she was dressed, nothin'. He was happy to see her!

Lara jumped slightly, hearing Alavance. An embarrassed blush crept over her face and she held her boo a bit tighter, looking merely stunned before he sat down next to her. And to her astonishment he was smiling. Grinning. And not only had he stopped to say hello, as loudly as he could, but he was sitting with her, intending to continue to speak to her!
After a moment she smiled back, and answered lamely, "Well."
Of course she had been doing fine. She was back in pretty dresses and curls and ribbons. Although this dress was a bit plainer than most, since she planned to read in the park. She hadn't yet gone to the Distribution Center to get any papers since her uncle had agreed to let her work.
"I made up with my Uncle... I'm living with him again..." She spoke a bit quietly, ashamed she had left without goodbyes in the first place.

He nodded. "Ah, home again eh? Well there are worse fates I guess," he said with a smile. "Ya look nice," he added gazing at her dress. "Real nice." He smiled at her. "But you happy and all bein' back home?" He was interested in what he had missed since they last spoke... it had been a while after all. He seemed like a curious little kid who just wanted to know everything!

She blushed probably more than she realized and looked away for a moment, pretending to be interested in a couple strolling by before she felt her face stop burning and turned back to him with a smile.
"Thank you... I'm... yeah, pretty happy. Uncle Walter has... He isn't as strict as he used to be. He's pays attention to me more. You know, asks how my day was and things like that." She smiled, then sincerely, "I don't think I ever really thanked you for helping me out when I ran off from him though. I am glad it worked out, but... I feel bad for just taking off. From him, and from you and the others."

He nodded. "Always happy to help someone who needs it," he said sincerely. "And don't worry about it! I'm glad things worked out for the best too! There's no reason for you to be sorry. You had things you needed to do, both times. You did what was good by you, and that's about all anyone can ask anymore these days," he said with a small smile and a nod to her. "I'm glad you're happy where you're at," he said with a small nod and a pat to her shoulder.
