She gave him a grateful smile and glanced to his hand as he patted her shoulder, feeling another blush begin. She looked down at her book, "It isn't alright, to me, at least. And you have the decency to still be so nice to me.."
She looked to him, and spoke a bit quickly, before she realized what it was exactly, that she was saying, "Let me take you out to dinner?"

He looked at her and his eyebrows went up. "What to like apologize for leavin' without notice? Ya dun owe me dinner for that! It's alright, I told ya. Even if it ain't alright by you it is by me. And if anything I should be treatin' you. Sorta... welcome... to... the present kinda thing I guess." He chuckled. "Would you let me take you to dinner, Shiner?" he asked with a smirk.

She blushed again, but smiled, and looked to him. She nodded, "I would like that. Yes."
Months ago they had arranged this before, but never went through. She was gone by then. Remembering this her smile began to falter, but watching him, it wasn't too hard to keep it up.
"When would you like to go?"

"We can go tonight if you want!" he said with a bright smile to her. "Or tomorrow, or whenever you wanna go, you name it," he said with a smile to her. He was just glad to see her happy, that was mostly what he was smiling about. "So, when would you like to go?" he chuckled a little, liking the patter they were getting into.

She laughed at his run-around of words and her body language relaxed much more. She put her book away in her bag, "When ever you like." She smiled and paused, then, "Tonight would be nice. I believe Uncle is staying late at the hospital. He said not to expect him for dinner."

He nodded. "Tonight is a great night for eating food," he said with a chuckle. "Anywhere in particular you wanna go? Wanna... stay in Manhattan, make the jaunt to queens...?" he was proud of himself on that word. He'd read it in the paper. "Whatever, where ever, my treat, you name it." It was gonna be all about her.

She giggled a little. His laughter, his mood was completely infectious. She couldn't feel bad about what she had done to him if she tried now. Obviously he didn't care, all was forgiven.
She shrugged, "Queens would be nice, I guess. What kind of food are you in the mood for?"

"Well down in Queens they got Greek food," he explained. "It's real good stuff too! If you never had it, it should be tried. You hungry now? or... shall we wait a little bit yet b'fore we head out? Ya know, this is a nice day ta be in the city. Ya never seen the sun shinin' so bright in the winter like this," he informed her with a small smile.

She laughed a little. He talked a mile a minute! But she didn't mind. She was certain she could listen to him talk all day long. "I've never had Greek before. Uncle Walter's stomach is so sensitive, he never really goes out. So..." She smiled and shrugged, "It sounds nice. And it is beautiful today... I suppose we could take a walk?"

"Hey not a bad idea, beautiful," he said lifting himself off the ground and dusting off his pants. "Let's take a walk all the way ta Queens. By the time we get there it'll be time for dinner anywhat." He smiled down to her and offered her a hand up. "Sound like a fair plan to you?"

At first, she wasn't sure what he had said. Then, she realized, yes, you idiot, he was speaking to you! He called her beautiful. And by some miracle she didn't blush. But smiled.
She took his hand, taking her book and bag in the other hand, as he helped her up, "Sounds fine. Lead the way..."

"Happily," he said nodding to her. He glanced down at the book in her hand. "What cha readin' there? Anything good?" he asked looking from the book to her.

She blushed slightly, placing it in her bag, "Alice Through the Looking Glass. It's a children's book, I know. But it's one of my favorites..."
She adjusted the strap of her bag, digging her toe in the ground a little, "Do you read much?"

He shrugged slightly. "Here and there, not too awful much really. And it ain't just a children's book ya know? It's interestin'! Don't go thinkin' it's a silly kids book, it ain't the simplest thing ta understand, that's the truth." He smiled charmingly at her. "So ya read the first one then? I mean there are 2 stories about Alice and her adventures, have ya read 'em both?"

Shiner smiled, appreciating his rather adult defensive of the books. "Yes, I have. I own both of them. You can borrow them if you'd like. Any time. And Uncle Walter has large collections. Mostly medical books and murder mysteries."
She shrugged as they walked along, "I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I borrowed one... for you."
