"Do I know you?"
Fighter held back a laugh at Lucky's comment and simply smirked, blowing out the smoke from her mouth. She gave the other girl one more glance before looking up at the sky again. One thing she loved about the roof it felt like you were so much closer to the sky. And the sky seemed endless. Fighter wasn't much of a dreamer but she still came out here once in awhile and let her thoughts drift.
"Not to bad, mate... not to bad." "One of my best mates from when I was a kid blew back into town. Slimy rich boy, but I missed him. How bout you?"
With a shrug, Fight didn't say anything for a moment. She thought about what Lucky said about her friend, thinking she needed to spend more time with some of her friends. "Oh yeah?" With a smirk, Fighter took another drag of her cigarette, "Not bad. Wish I was working more, but don't we all."

Lucky let out a nervous chuckle and shrugged her shoulders a little, letting the knots in the back of her neck work themselves out for a moment. "I haven't sold a paper in nearly two years and I don't intend to start now-- I make enough gambling and I'm smart enough to stash enough of my winnings and only play what I can afford to survive for awhile--" Sneaks was gone, no telling when he would be back but Lucky was okay with that. She was just glad Fighter was alright and since Ace was back-- her brother was back. "Heh, I've got a lot a friends all over this city, and you are one of them-- between you, me and Smalls, we practically stand in for Spot when he's gone.."

Fighter nodded at Lucky's words, she was in a bit of awe over Lucky's ability to gamble her way through life but she didn't show it. "I haven't been selling much either...before the raise. I've been working at a pub in Queens. I just ain't been getting the kind of time I'd like to there. Drinkin' most of my money away too unless I'm spending it on cigarettes or food for the lil' ones."
She hadn't told any of them about her time with Gwennie at Coney Island. She wasn't normally that taken with one of the younger newsies but Gwennie had wedged her way into Fighters heart the moment she introduced herself. Fighter figured that was probably why she was buying her and the other kids meals before buying herself one. When Lucky mentioned Spot Fighter gave a nod, it was a little weird that she hadn't seen him lately. "At least we can take care of things and he knows that."

Lucky nodded with a slow drag from her cigarette. She was no bleeding heart by any means, the only kid she actually had a soft spot for was in truth, Aria's little girl. And that was because she had a soft spot for her mother. Closing her eyes once more she leaned back and drew a long line of smoke and blew it out.
"We always take care a things, Spot knows it better than most... it's why he's alright leavin us from time to time.." Lucky and Smalls got into trouble now and again but they were good for it.

Fighter gave a nod, thinking about the fact that growing up really did suck as much as her uncle had always told her it would. He said she needed to slow down because once your grown up theres no going back and there certainly wasn't. She wasn't sure what had had her on this kick lately where she'd been thinking that she was out growing the city. It probably had more to do with her innate fear that Scar was going to try and come after her when she least suspected it. "So how're things with Sneaks?" She hadn't really had the chance to talk with Lucky lately but would rather focus on Lucky's life than her own.

At the question Lucky raised s brow and then smirked, taking another long drag. "I haven't seen him in months, he'd gone to Atlantic City and I don't know when he's coming back but he'll come find me when he's ready-- I ain't lookin for him.." That was it. Lucky wasn't going to go and find him again, she couldn't spend all her time looking for Sneaks when she had her own life to live too. She loved him with all she had, but she had to help take care of Brooklyn. Had to be there for Smalls. She was needed in Brooklyn.

Fighter nodded, she probably should've picked a different subject to talk about but she wasn't usually someone who picked subjects as it was. "I would do the same. We've all got plenty of other things to keep us busy." Her travel to work and back to the lodging house each day was starting to get to her. She wasn't eating like she used to and all the walking was making her lose weight and honestly who among them could afford to lose weight.

Lucky shrugged her shoulders and stretched a little, "It's alright, when I meet up with him again I hope things haven't changed---" her lips curved into a a grin. "The price hike is going to piss him off.."

Fighter smiled a bit and tilted her head up to look at the sky more. "I'm sure if he's anything like you've said it will do just that." She laughed a bit and couldn't imagine Lucky with someone who wouldn't express the same views as her on such important matters. She knew she could never be with someone who didn't.

She turned that grin on her friend and sighed, leaning back, "Yeah, I just kind of hope that time hasn't changed us both to much--" She was settling in a way, her hyper activeness was breaking off into something else. She was learning to listen then act-- learning to fight in other ways then her fist. And learning just how many people needed her, and how many she needed in return. "He'll be angry as hell about the price hike, and try to get his papers for the price they used to be and stand there and gripe-- and then play cards--" Yeah, there was a longing in her voice. No matter how much she said to the contrary. She missed him.

Fighter smiled at the tone of her voice, it'd been a long time since she'd ever thought she needed a guy like that. Of course she figured that life just wasn't for her, with her past still looming over her head she couldn't bring someone into that. She'd made he mistakes and she'd learned from them, but knew she'd never fully trust someone again with her heart. It'd been too battered the last go around, she just wished she'd met someone like Lucky's Sneaks. Just from the way Lucky looked and sounded when she talked about him Fighter knew he must be a real gem. "I'm sure you haven't changed too much, maybe just done a bit more growing up. I don't think that'll change a thing though."

She laughed and nodded, her shoulders shifting a bit. "I can only hope, we all grow up. It's what time does to people in the end.." Lucky's life was never boring, it was what it was in a grand style that she tended to need. But in truth she needed stability too. "I think I might head to queens, talk to Aria again.." The second hand mother to all the kids who didn't know any better. "She makes good soup.. I might even go to Jersey to see my Aunt..." She did have family floating around but in the depths of New York she was alone.

Fighter gave a smile and nodded, "It's always nice to visit family." Unfortunately for her, her father had long since disappeared out west after leaving her with her uncle and her uncle was six feet deep. She didn't mind being without family though. She figured she was better off alone. Besides at least she didn't have to impress anyone or worry about anyone. "Might be nice to get out of the city for awhile. Things here are getting rough and with all the new kids swarming in it seems their getting even rougher. Hard to make money round these parts anymore."

"I don't know, Aunt Savina might not be living there anymore-- " she didn't really know. But the truth of it was she just needed a change for awhile. "I'm going to look for another job too-- can't be a kid forever ya know?" She sighed, she did miss Sneaks though, wanted to know what he was going before she did anything like that.

Fighter nodded, wishing it was anything but true but knowing the reality of it. "Yeah, I know. Wish it wasn't so but we all gotta grow up sometime." Fighter thought about Lucky's aunt not being where Lucky had seen her last and shrugged. "Even if your aunt isn't there it'd be good to have a change of scene. Get out'ta New York for awhile....I've been thinkin' bout leaving once all of this nonsense with raise gets resolved."
