Joe's thinking was right, Fighter did punch him again and not as playfully this time. "He's just messin' around. I got the name from some friends, cause me uncle was a prize fightah and he taught me to take care of meself."

"Oh" said Gwennie, and nodded knowingly before pausing and asking, with a sincere look on her face, "what kinda prizes did he fight foah?"

Fighter stiffled a laugh, "It's just a fancy name for a boxah...he used to box for some real stiffs and not just da normal people like us." It was a high stakes sort of boxing match, but really he just had made a name for himself and got people interested enough to pay him more than he could make in Manhattan at that boxing ring.

Upon hearing this information gwennie eyes grew wide and an expression of disbelief crept onto her face. "you mean he boxed foah dead people!?" she gasped in awe "How did they pay him?... Did he fight in heaven?"
(for those who don't know, the word stiffs can be used to refer to the deceased presumably because of the postmortum stiffening of the body caused by rigour mortis)

Fighter laughed and patted Gwennies head, "Nah kid, he fought for some of t'em hoity-toity folks. Some of t'em really like to see a guy get beaten pretty bad." Her uncle hadn't been rich or even real well off but he'd made a living and supported them.

"oh" said Gwennie, again somewhat disappointed 'how come nothin' is evah as interestin' as it sounds' she thought, sullenly "but why do dey like seein' people get hoit?" she inquired."I don' like dat at all, It's sad"

"Rush of adrenaline" Joe said "Foah da fightahs and da audience. Its addictin" Joe grinned as he remembered the many times he fought and won. If he ever needed a different job fighting was the thing he'd be good at no matter what. And he'd win.

"Why would da audience get a kick outta it? Dere not doin' nothin' except sittin' on dere lazy butts watchin' people hoit each othah" complained Gwennie, her tone growing somewhat frustrated.

Fighter just shrugged, "Just da way t'ey are I guess. I like to watch people box, makes me feel good and usually it can put a lil' money in me pocket so I ain't gonna complain 'bout it."

"Well I jus' don' like any a' it" said Gwennie crossing her arms over her chest "I don' see why people do stuff like dat when it can get em' killed so easy, jus so dey can make a few extra bucks. I mean, factory jobs are dangerous but ya got a bettah chance dere den in a boxin' ring"

With a laugh Fighter replied, "Well I don't here much 'bout boxers dyin' in da ring but me uncle loved fightin'. It was what he said used to make him who he was. If he wasn't fightin' he wasn't livin'. Guess he passed some of t'at onto me. I can tell ya t'at I love a good brawl. Watchin' or participatin'."

"Well, I sure don't" retorted Gwennie morosely "Don' get me wrong, I can fight I jus' don' like it. It makes me feel so mean."

Fighter patted Gwennie's head, "Well, kid, it ain't like you bein' mean if you're defendin' you'self. You gotta learn to let t'at go, but t'en again it could be a good t'ing t'at you feel t'at way. I get into a lotta scrapes cause I got a tempah on me but t'at don't mean I want others to."

"T'ats true," Fighter smiled, "Maybe you should be t'at friend huh, kid? I bet you could calm down a tiger right before a meal." She laughed and looked around before focusing back on Gwennie.
