"I don't t'ink I'd want you to try it either." Fighter smiled, breaking a roll in half that she had surreptiously snuck from one of the people picnicing and held half out to Gwennie. "Want some?"

"Sure" replied Gwennie cheerfully, taking the bread " thanks. So... what do you usually do all day? besides sellin', I mean" she asked, taking a bite of the roll.

Fighter shrugged and took a bite of her own roll, "Walk around, go to boxin' matches or to da tracks. Sometimes down to da docks or hang 'round the lodgin' house. Mostly though if I ain't sellin' I'm prolly workin' at the bar." Fighter didn't really think about how much of her time was actually spent working, she tried not to. She enjoyed just living the freedom of the life she had and only worked because she had to to feed herself. "What 'bout you?"

Fighter nodded, thinking that Gwennie needed a change of scene. "Hey maybe we could go to Coney Island tomorrow when you get done sellin' da mornin' edition." She'd probably have some extra change from working and hopefully some winnings from the tracks.

"Dat sounds great!" replied Gwennie excitedly she always loved visiting the amusement park and watching the ponies go around the track at sheepshead bay. "where can I find ya tomorrow when I'm ready?"

Fighter grinned, glad that Gwennie was so excited. "I'll probably be at the lodgin' 'ouse." She should be done at the tracks by the time Gwennie was done selling her papes. Maybe she'd pick up a few of the afternoon edition to sell on her way to Coney Island in case her luck ran out at the tracks.

Fighter grinned and finished her bread before lighting a cigarette, "Alright kid, I'll see you there. I gotta get goin'."
(Wanna move this there? To coney island, I mean.)

(New Day)
When they reached the tables Dewey flopped down on one of them and, making sure he was facing the sun, leaned back, closing his eyes because of the glare. "So, whadda ya wanna do now?" he asked Dots, his eyes still closed.

"So, whadda ya wanna do now?"
Dots was giggling slightly at how Dewey looked. She knew he was trying to get a little darker, but he looked like an old guy sleeping. "Well, I don't know. We could do anythin'." She said with a smile and leaned back just as Dewey did.

"what kinda anythin'?" he asked, turning his head to face Dots and cracking one eye open. He couldn't really think of anything to do and wasn't really motivated to try.
(actually he's trying to dry off. Strangely, I don't think people really tanned much until the twenties or so. Actually (for girls at least) it was considered more attractive to be pale.)

She smiled. "I don't know." Dots laughed at him. "What do ya wanna do?"
