When she saw her sister crying, she felt tears well up in her own eyes as well. Hugging her sister back tightly she said, "Aw, come on Star. We can get through this. I will see ya every day I promise. Ya can visit me and Bear, and when we get kids ya can visit us then too." She sat there, letting her tears escape her eyes and let them freely fall down her face.

"Yeah, well. I'm leavin', and it's good to cry. You can meet Bear tomorrow...or more like today since it's..." Taking her pocket watch out of her damp shirt, she looked at the time after washing off the water on it, "2 in the morning. Come on, let's go back." Standing up, Moon couldn't wait to get back in the lodging house and change out of these clothes before she gets chaffed, or gets sick.

[New Day]
Peaches had had a long morning. She decided to take a break and visit Rockaway Beach. She found a spot at the northern pier, took her shoes off, and sat down sticking her feet in the water. She smiled, it felt so cool on her tired and dirty feet. She starting swirling her feet around in the water and humming one of her favorite songs, watching the water swirl around below her.

It was a hot and lazy morning and Waltz was happy to discover that she was nearly done selling all her papers. So happy, in fact, that she had decided to wander off to the beach to take a quick break. She stopped at the northern pier to find another girl already there. She looked somewhere around Waltz's age and was gazing serenely at the water, humming to herself.
"It's nice here, ain't it?" Waltz asked, plopping down next to her, a small pile of papes in hand.

"It's nice here, ain't it?"
Peaches looked up at the girl belonging to the voice, stopped humming, and smiled, replying in her deep southern accent, "It's beautiful, and so peaceful." She continued swirling her legs around, "It's quite relaxing... The names Charli, but everyone just call me Peaches." She offered her hand.

"Yeah, so different from the rest of New York," Waltz said with a glance at today's headline- something about a fire in a factory building, killing almost a dozen people. She shook Peaches' hand. "I'm Waltz! That's the only name I've ever known. I don't even think I have a real name. " She shrugged indifferently and took her shoes off, dipping her feet in the water.

"So Waltz, that's an interesting name, darlin'. It's kind of obvious but I'm interested, how'd you come by it?" Peaches lifted her feet out of the water, and put them back it. She began kicking her feet gently so as to not splash.

Waltz smiled, fondly recalling happy memories of her childhood, lying awake at night, listening to the merry tune of the Blue Danube Waltz. "Well, I ain't a dancer, it that's what you're thinking," she said with a laugh. "It's just what them other kids at the orphanage called me 'cause I gots this music box I used to always listen to."
Sighing, she folded her hands in her lap. "I thought if I heard the song enough, it would bring my parents back, ya know? At least enough so that I can remember their faces." She quickly blocked the rush of sadness that quickly surged through her body. Waltz knew even then that they would never come back for her, and a single wish could only go so far without breaking into a million pieces.

"I thought if I heard the song enough, it would bring my parents back, ya know? At least enough so that I can remember their faces."
Peaches noticed a brief sadness come over Waltz, before she pushed it away. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring up a sad subject, darlin'."
A lot of these kids here in the city had lots of bad things happen to them. She had never gone through losing a parent, but she had been forced into a life she didn't want and wasn't accepted for the person she was; almost everyone had tried to change her, so she ran away. Here, she may not have the money and privilege she had back home, but at least she was happy for the most part. She did miss her brother Avery, but she got to sing and no one ever tried changing her. Peaches looked back down into the water, watching the ripples her feet were making in the water.

"Oh, it's alright," Waltz said, shaking her head dismissively. "I think about it a lot, anyways."
"So what about your family? Ya sound like your from down south," She observed from Peaches cute southern drawl. It was so different from her rough New York accent, that she couldn't help but be envious.

"So what about your family? Ya sound like your from down south,"
Peaches chuckled because everyone was able to pick out where she was from, "I lived in Savannah, Georgia, before I came here about 2 years ago." Then, Peaches smiled, "And my family... All alive still, as far as I know, anyways. My parents, Edward and Molly Carington owned a very large, very prosperous plantation so I grew up wealthy and privileged. I have three older brothers. My oldest brother, Edward is married and when I left he had a baby. My brother, Dalton, was engaged and was planning to move to England with his wife after the wedding." Peaches' smile grew wider out of affection for her last brother, "And, my brother, Avery, had just gotten over being really sick and was working for our father."
Peaches looked down at her feet splashing around in the water and the smile slowly faded away. "Then, on my 16th birthday, I was told I was promised to marry this one guy, Thomas Winston Graham, who was the son of my father's friend... Neither of us wanted to marry someone we didn't love, but we didn't have any say in the matter, so Thomas helped me to sell most of my belongings and buy my train ticket, and here I am..." Peaches put a fake smile on her face. She was content in the life she had now, but she missed her brother Avery and worried about him, sometimes; not knowing whether he grew stronger after being sick or if he had gotten worse...

Waltz listened as Peaches described her siblings, strangely feeling hollow and empty. Must be nice, having a family. She tried to imagine what it would be like. Safe, she reasoned. Wanted. Happy. And then she asked herself for fiftieth time that day. What had she possibly done wrong that nobody wanted her?
Still, everyone has a story. Maybe she was born out of wedlock and maybe her grandfather was some rich fella who forced her mother to give her away. Waltz decided that had to be the reason. And Peaches sure had a sad history, too. Waltz admired her for being brave enough to leave home. Like her. "It takes guts to go, doesn't it?" She felt a connection with the older girl. A friendship.

Peaches watched the Waltz's face as she seemed to be thinking about the story Peaches had just told. She looked sad. Peaches wondered why her story of her family made Waltz sad... Did she know who her own parents were? Did she have any siblings? Maybe she didn't know, and that's why she seemed sad. Peaches decided that she would take this girl under her wing, like a younger sister....
"It takes guts to go, doesn't it?"
Peaches half smiled, "I guess so, Darlin'. That's what everyone tells me..." Peaches found a small stone sitting on the dock beside her. She picked it up and tossed it into the water. "It also takes courage to be able to take care of yourself..." Peaches hoped her words made Waltz feel a bit better.
