Slip squinted her eyes and pursed her lips; the expression was rather unattractive but it did help her think. Really in the Bronx there was only Webster and Morris, and as of late the gawky newsgirl daren't roam outside her borough. Webster Ave. wouldn't do, the angry German might be about. The brunette shuddered a bit remembering the loud and angry man. "Most definitely not Webster," she told Lightning, still thinking.
"Suppose Morris Park, it'll busy with the lunch run." Unfortunately, it'd probably just be Newsies there, but Slip-Shoe mused it might just be her lucky day.
Tucking a rebellious strand of hair behind her ear, the brunette smiled sympathetically at the boy's gripe about money. "I could spot you, ya know. Lord knows all of our pockets are getting lighter." Slip dropped a hand into her pocket to retrieve some coins, and found it sickeningly empty. Still, an offer made can't be withdrawn. She offered a couple of pennies (leaving herself with enough for her papers the next morning) to her friend. Suddenly feeling very awkward and suppressing an indignant cry from her also sickeningly empty stomach, Slip turned her full attention to her dingy brown boot laces.

Lightning shook his head, "Nah, it's alright. I can get some money. Magnet always lends us some if we need it." He pushed her hand back to herself, but he held his hand there a moment longer. Pulling his hand away, he blushed and coughed very nervously.
"And...uh...don't worry **cough cough** I'll pay foah lunch." He glanced up at her and did a small smile, then back at the ground.

Slip- Shoe's attention snapped up from her shoes to her companions face. She gaped, wide-eyed and slack-jawed, at Lightning. Most Newsies couldn't afford their own food, let alone someone else's. Blushing madly and nearly twitching, Slip began to splutter, "No, you mustn'- I mean, you can't. It's all right, I'm all right."
The brunette pulled nervously at her hair. "I've, uh, already, er - " Slip, her face now an especially unappealing fuchsia color, finally managed to stop her babbling. Both hands clutching at her skirt, she focused her gaze on the sand. "Eaten," she finished lamely, nodding, "I've already eaten." Slip-Shoe prayed that he believed her fib. She couldn't let him buy her anything, not with what little money he's got and how many brothers he's got to share it with.

"I've already eaten."
Lightning raised his eyebrow at her. "Uh..Slip, I don't think yoah tellin' da truth, especially by that stomach grumble I hoid a lil earlier, yoah hungry. " He smiled up at her and grabbed her hand, "Come on, I'll by ya somethin.' He stated, feeling suddenly much more confident.

<< New Day >>
Royal Flush had just recently sold his newspapers and he was just plain bored. There wasn't even any music playing at the gazebo to entertain him so he decided to walk around the Bronx a little.
Royal walked to the eastern part of the beach and sat down on the ground. He closed his eyes and took in the autumn breeze. Royal opened his eyes and looked down at his shoes which looked pretty interesting to him.

((may i join?))
Solitaire walked silently down the eastern beach, her cards in her hand. She remembered hanging around with Melody recently, and it had been nice. She smiled at the thought of the boy, humming and singing happily as only a little boy should.
She took out some of her cards and looked through them absently, deep in thought. She heard something and looked up, pausing her step. She saw a young man sitting down, looking at his shoes. Perhaps he was expecting them to get up and walk away without him?

>>>NEW DAY<<< Z sat down on the edge of the sand looking out over the water. It had been a long day and not a very good one at that but the view made it better. Sighing she laid back in the sand not worrying about what a mess her dress will be when she gets up. Taking her shoes off she dug her feet into the dirt and let the warmth the sun left in the sand relax her. "Mmmmm" She murmured "Life is good."

Pup had been wandering again. He had seen his daddy again and he didn't want to be found. He had been walking along the street when he found a little kitty in a cardboard box. He picked it up, stroking the little kitten's dirty fur. He had it cuddled in his jacket. He saw the beach and thought that would be a nice sunny place to rest. He saw a girl sitting there and approached her shyly. He sat down next to her grinning and said, "Hi."

*NEW DAY*
Scar strolled the beach, his eyes darting all around him. For some reason he'd had the distinct feeling that someone had been following him the past couple weeks and although he wasn't feeling it right now he was incredibly suspicious of everything going on. He saw a bench not to far ahead of him and decided to take a seat until he could quell the feeling. Damn he could go for a pint right now but he didn't really feel like walking to the pub, he decided after he left the beach he would head in that general direction.

Murdoch darted down the beach, closely followed by his older brother, Hyrum, and, somewhat less closely, by his little sister, Osa, who was toddling as fast as she could in pursuit of both her brothers, occasionally tripping in the squishy sand as she went. Murdoch, and Hyrum after him, just barely missed running into a man who was walking down the beach. "sorry, mister!" they called out over their shoulders as they continued down the beach and into the shallow water. Osa, staring at the ground as she toddled as fast as he little legs could manage, was slower to react to the human roadblock (or beachblock... sandblock?) in front of her, and ran head-on into the man's legs, falling backwards in shock as she did so.
The little girl looked up slowly at the seemingly gargantuan man above her, unsure what to make of him. Seeing the incident, Murdoch and Hyrum jogged back over to where their little sister sat. Hyrum, being the oldest, knelt down and brushed the sand off of Osa's legs as gently as any twelve-year-old boy would. "say 'i'm sorry', Osa" he chided her, glancing between her and the strange man. "sorry, Osa" she repeated, finally, smiling up at the man. Hyrum and Murdoch chuckled amusedly "no, Osa, say 'I'm sorry for knockin' into ya, mister' " chuckled Murdoch, patting his sister on the head patronizingly. "sorry fa knockin' int' ya missa" she repeated, smiling innocently up at the man.

A scowl formed on Scars lips as two boys darted past him, barely paying attention to what they were doing and almost running into him in the process. One thing Scar couldn't stand was boys who thought nothing in the world could touch them. He shook his head slightly before feeling a small body crash into his legs and fall back into the sand. Scar glance down and his gaze instantly softened at the sight of the small, almost infant child in front of him. He almost leaned down to pick her up when her brothers ran back and one crouched down beside her. As soon as Scar realized what he almost did his face hardened. "It's alright lass, should be your brothers apologizing. Seeing as they can't seem to keep an eye on their little sister." Scar glanced at Murdoch and Hyrum in such a way that it was clear he thought very little of them.

Murdoch and Hyrum looked at the man in indignation. "Hey, we didn't do nothin' wrong" Murdoch countered, crossing his arms over his chest. "Yeah, jus' 'cause we think she oughta learn t' keep up instead 'a bein' babied 'til she don't know how t' do nothin' for herself doesn't mean we're bad brothers" Hyrum added, bending down and brushing the sand off of her dress as she wobbled up into a standing position. "and you're wrong anyhow 'cause we were so watchin'. How else would we 'a known that she knocked inta ya an' all?" Murdoch injected, a smug look on his face.

Scar lifted an eyebrow at the impudent youth, most men his age wouldn't think to talk to him like that. He leaned down placing his face an inch from Murdoch's. "I'd wipe that look off your face if I were you. You seem to be the one who needs to do a bit of growing. Didn't anyone ever tell you to learn your place, boy? You never know when you'll say the wrong thing to the wrong person and trust me I'm the wrong person." The scowl on his face deepened and he glared at the boy with hard eyes.

Murdoch backed away slightly, glaring at the man in front of him. "Wow, you're really brave" sneered Hyrum, stepping in between his brother and the hostile man. "takin' on a nine year old kid." He crossed his arms over his chest and a mocking little smirk formed on his face. "Hey, maybe next ya fight my baby sister next" he retorted, glancing over at Osa. Murdoch chuckled amusedly behind his brother, "Yeah, whaddaya think, Osa, ya wanna fight the big scary man?" he asked his sister, who was watching the exchange, with an oblivious smile on her little face. She giggle in response and jumped up and down on the sand. "Yeah! Puppy!" she cried, elatedly before toddling over and hugging the strange man's leg. "Wan Puppy!" Hyrum turned around and exchanged a confounded look with Murdoch. "Where'd she get that from?" He asked, elliciting only a somewhat amused shrug from his younger brother.
((sorry I took so long to get back to you on this thread. My teachers are sadistic nazis so I've had to drop off the face of the earth for awhile. If you don't want to pick this thread up again it's cool but I just thought I'd give you the option since it hasn't been new day'd yet))

Scar carefully dislodged the girl from his leg before grabbing Hyrum by the collar and lifting him up to face level. "Kid...I won't hesitate to give you a few good ones to remember this by. Keep speaking that way to me and your siblings will see you get put in your place." Scar sneered at him before dropping him to the ground.
"Say another word kid and you'll end up with some bruises." Scar stared at Hyrum evenly, his words had nothing to do with bravery and more to do with the fact that he didn't care for being talked to that way and he wouldn't hesitate to break some bones along with giving the kid some bruises. He had very few feelings and none when it came to children. In fact, he despised them all.
