She never imagined having to stand here. She never imagine her father leaving her either, but he had. And she was here.
The hat was her father's. It concealed her long hair pretty well. She held the suitcase infront of her, hesitant to place it on the steps, even to knock for a moment. Someone might come along and steal the last few things she owned. They were practical things, but still nice. Clothes, mostly, but a few momentoes as well.
She sighed, raising her hand to knock. Oh, why did he have to leave her? She didn't blame him. He thought he was doing the right thing, of course. The best for her. An apartment on Fifth Avenue. He trusted family. She was her mother's daughter. He was her mother's brother. Of course he was to be trusted. If her father died, he would have had guardianship over her anyway. He was the only family, besides her father, she had left. But she didn't want anything to do with her uncle. Maybe she should travel further...
She pulled the cap down a bit, hopefully concealing the black eye as well. The last think she wanted was sympathy. Or a doctor's visit. That would be worse. She even had a boy's name picked out, in case this house only lodged boys. She hadn't brought any dresses, so that wouldnt be a problem at least. She'd bathe in the middle of the night. Boys were often heavy sleepers.
Her stomach turned with anxiety. She knocked on the door before thinking to much.
But should she even knock? Should she just walk right in? Had it been too long since her knock that it would look awkard if she came in now?

"Hey, watch out!" a man said as he came running down the street. "Clear the way dock worker comin'- pardon me ma'am," he said with a bright smile to a hoity toity woman he had run in to. The woman turned away, nose turned high and the man looked at her, laughed then turned and ran again. "Watch out move outta the way!"
He then focused his gaze on the steps of the lodging house. "uh-oh... Hey buddy! Clear the door way! You're gonna get run over!" he said running full speed towards the steps.

(Lol. I like him. Also, nice icon text.)
Lara gasped, but wretched the door open and jumped inside, out of the way of the door holding it open. What on earth was his hurry? Well, it made things simple for her now, she was inside. Her suitcase was in her free hand, still clutching it tightly. She watched him with wide eyes, his mere energy a surprise to her.
((Do we move this to the front desk?))

((Yeah, just move it there on your next post, okay?))
"TIME!" he said as he came in the front door. He checked his watch. "Hah! New Record! Made it from Queens to Manhattan in under 30 minutes. Hahah, yes!" he said.
He smiled as he turned to the new comer. "Heya girly, sorry, didn't mean to scare ya, but... heh, oh, I'm Avalanche," he said offering a slightly dirty hand. Yes, he noticed she was a girl... call it a specialty, but he could tell any girl in a boy's disguise. "What's your name?"

(New Day)
Lucky found herself smoking like a chimney on the Manhattan Lodging house steps. She had to find Sneaks and was doing a shotty job about it. She sighed and took another drag from her smoke, she was down to her last pack again. This was becoming a complete and utter.. she closed her eyes and leaned against the wall humming Pachelbel.
"Bloody hell it's getting cold.."

Daisy wasn't often in Manhattan these days, but she'd decided to stop by Tibby's for something to eat and had to walk past the lodging house to get there. She recognized Lucky almost right off, but wasn't sure if she should say hello. She liked the girl well enough, but she could be brash and Daisy didn't want to offend her.
When she heard Lucky's utterance about the cold she stopped and studied the girl for a moment. "Aye, it is."

Lucky blinked and looked up, her dark eyes settling on the girl. "Daisy.. is it?" She hadn't seen her in a spell, not since the outbreak. She straightened a little bit and took another drag. "How have you been?" Oh hell Lucky STILL had to make it up to Spot. She closed her eyes and sighed, letting the smoke fill her lungs.

"Aye...Daisy..." She smiled at Lucky for a moment before leaning up against the wall beside her. "I've been...good. Yourself?" Lucky looked troubled, as though she had a great many things weighing on her mind.

Lucky took another drag from her smoke, closing her eyes for a moment. "Not good, not bad... indifferent.. I can't find... someone I'm looking for..." She pulled the coat closer and grunted a bit. "Came all the way to Manhattan to see if anyone could tell me and can't find a single one that's not a moron.."

"Oh?" Daisy said softly, examining Lucky's face with her eyes before lapsing into an extended silence. She didn't know the girl very well, but she wanted to help her if she could. "Perhaps I can be of some help. Who are you looking for?" It was a long shot, since Daisy was relatively new to New York still, but her position at the pub kept her ear on gossip.

"Sneaks.." she said quietly. "I'm looking for Sneaks.. he's all but vanished.." Her face fell, her only real reason for staying in New York.. was that one man. And, the time for their bet was coming up. She wished he would have told her where he was going when he'd left but.. no one would tell her a thing. Apparently no one knew where he was.

((Sorry it took me so long...Daisy has been slipping in and out on me))
"Sneaks..." Daisy mulled over the name for a moment before sadly shaking her head, wishing she could offer the girl some direction. "I'm sorry...I don't know him. But I'll keep an ear out at the pub and...and I could ask Peem, he might know."

"Peem?" Lucky flipped threw her mental roll-a-dex and furrowed her brow. "Aye, I suppose he might know of him.." She sighed and shook her head. "I guess one thing at a time.." Apologize to Spot, hope he forgives her. "He's Dodger's mate.. he might know.."

"Aye Dodger," Daisy said, her eyes lighting up a little at the mention of a name she did recognize, the charming British lad who she'd spent days helping in quarantine. "I'll ask Peem anyhow, he might know who to ask."
