"I'll take one."
Styx snorted, about to refuse, when he caught Snoddy’s shrug and thought better of it. Kid was probably gonna smoke eventually, few street kids didn’t, and if HP wanted to start early it wasn’t his problem. The Irish boy handed the coffin-nail to Half Pint, lit his own cig, and then tossed over the box of matches. If he wanted to smoke, he could light his own stick...
He listened to Snoddy’s rambling, intermittently taking a drag or two. He smirked when he mentioned Styx’s “alone-ness” and chuckled a little when he caught on to the Manhattaner’s point. “As a matter of fact,” he started, giving snoddy a nod to show he’d caught on, “I could use someone to watch my back while I sell.. But where would I find someone like that on such short notice? Prince’ll be here any minute now...”

She had been about to give that large Bronx guy a good knee to his family jewels when she finally heard a voice and she spun around. She knew THAT voice anywhere. And even though he'd been the indirect cause of a few of her misadventures lately she was glad to see him when he came. The smile that crossed her face was quick and she reached out to him when he showed up. She watched him give the guy a look and she sighed into his back. This was Blink, there in the nick of time and gone just as quickly half the time.
"You mind, buddy? She's with me."
She could have sworn the guy said something about her having a very nice honey hued body under those cloths and her skin color paled a few shades as Blink lead her back threw the crowd to a couple empty chairs. Bumlets was in the row in front of them catching a bit of shut eye and she tapped his hat before she turned to Blink's words.
"Better now, mon choux. I was going to end up startin' a fight if I gave him a good kick.." she sighed and dropped into the chair like a rag doll. What a week. She resisted bringing up the blond and her terrible accent though it was edging on her mind and she smiled. "You're late, bebe.."

Fighter's only reaction to Mittens coming over was a quick quirk of her eyebrow. When Sonkai came back with drinks in her arms Fight stood and grabbed her glass off the tray, dropping some coins in it's place. Sitting back down, Fight took a sip of her drink and continously ignored Mittens.

Lucky'd originally had no intention of showing up to this-- little gathering in Manhattan. Hell she'd not wanted to leave Brooklyn in over two weeks but she dropped into the seat next to Fighter and took one of the drinks from the platter.
"You know the twit?" was all she'd asked as she took a drink that her friend had acquired. She was tired, she was hurting and she was annoyed at the looks she was getting. "If people don't stop lookin' at me there's going to me a slaughter.."

Fighter smirked as Lucky took a seat. Thank god someone from Brooklyn had shown up besides her. It wasn't that she minded being the only one here but without the others it just got boring. "She seems to think so." Fighter gave a shrug and took a sip of her drink. She loved the slight burn she got in her throat from the whiskey. It always soothed her for some reason. "That'd be interesting to see." Fighter always loved a good fight and right now she'd like to crack a few skulls herself.

Half Pint took the cigarette and looked over at Styx, trying to figure out what to do with it next. He stuck it in between his lips like he had seen the older boy do and picked up the box of matches that had fallen to the floor when Styx tossed them to him. He opened up the box, took out a match, and began striking it against the box trying to get it to light, unsuccessfully. As he continued to work on getting the match to light, he listened in to Snoddy and Styx's conversation.
“I could use someone to watch my back while I sell.. But where would I find someone like that on such short notice? Prince’ll be here any minute now...”
Half Pint grinned. "Me! I could do it. I'm a real good shot and ladies think I'm cute and feel bad, so I sell lots of papes!" he replied excitedly with the unlit cigarette sticking out of his mouth. While waiting for Styx response, he gave the match one last strike on the box, before he would give up. He finally got it to light, so he held it up to cigarette and lit it. He shook the match to put it out before it burned him, and then took his first drag. Suddenly, his face turned green, he took the cigarette out of his mouth, and he began to cough. He looked down at the cigarette he held in his hand, and frowned Yuck, he thought as he was still coughing. How could anyone like that?

Slipping through the door Danny paused at the scene before him, a slight grimace drooping his features. It was crowded. Heaving a sigh he stuck his hands in his pockets, sauntering over to his Brooklyn companions and going, as he generally did, unnoticed by those he brushed past. Arriving near the two girls Danny dropped into a seat, hoping things got started soon and having little confidence in the leaders abilities to keep things from getting out of hand. "Ladies," he greeted with a weak grin and a slight nod before resting his head back on his chair and gazing blankly at the empty stage.
If nothing got accomplished here, Brooklyn was still going in. Showing up at the event as if that wasn't true was just good politics.

Lucky leaned over the back of her chair, "Hey Danno..." she looked around a bit and sighed, they were here for Brooklyn good will really. They already knew what Spot had planned so being here was just how Brooklyn showed that they weren't breaking away form the rest of the boroughs.
She looked back over her shoulder and waited for someone to start talking. She didn't get into Manhattan much anymore and she was kind of proud of that. She spotted Blink and smirked, "I'm gonna play a little before we go home.." she liked scaring him, he was full of it she just loved giving him hell.

"Me! I could do it. I'm a real good shot and ladies think I'm cute and feel bad, so I sell lots of papes!"
Snoddy grinned as though that thought hadn't occurred to him. "Hey, that's a great idea!" he said, with maybe a touch too much exuberance. "Half Pint was just telling me how he can't find anyone to sell with, since none of the others can keep up with him. I bet you could, though, right?"
As Half Pint experienced his first coughing fit, Snoddy reached over and snagged an ashtray off the arm rest of another chair and set it on his knee where the kid could reach it. "Assuming he doesn't get the wasting disease first," Snoddy amended, giving Half Pint a pointed look.

Styx chuckled at Snoddy’s acting and put on a grin. “I’ll try my best to keep up, depends how fast ya are, boyo,” Styx gave the boy another friendly wink. “So it’s settled. You help me sell, we watch each other’s backs, and both don’t get in trouble for not having a partner.” In truth, he was wondering if he’d be able to put up with having a kid shadow while at the same time worrying about getting Nike home safe. He shook his head and tried to think positively, the kid didn’t really seem too bad, hell, he’d just tried to smoke!
Styx tried to keep a straight face as Half Pint took his first drag and moments later almost coughed up a lung, but the odds were against him. His face broke into a grin he couldn’t hide and he pounded lightly on the kid’s back. “Takes a bit of getting used to, cub, so don push yourself.”
"Assuming he doesn't get the wasting disease first,"
Clearing his throat, Styx scratched the back of his neck and tried to look repentant. He wasn’t, it’d been to damn funny for that, but he did feel bad for corrupting the kid. He’d have to watch himself in front of his new shadow. Either that or get himself a sensor.

"Better now, mon choux. I was going to end up startin' a fight if I gave him a good kick..."
Blink laughed appreciatively and playfully tapped Brook's jaw with his fist. "That's my little ragin' Cajun!" he declared, hiking himself up to sit on the back of a chair, his feet in the seat. "You could'a given 'im hell if there'd been room to swing a punch."
Noticing Bumlets in the row in front of them as Brook tapped him, Blink reached over and rapped his knuckles on the dozing boy's head. "Hey, ya bum, wake up. What, you born in a barn or somethin'? Didn't no one ever tell you it ain't polite to fall asleep in the company of a lady?" he asked obnoxiously, gesturing to Brook with a wink.
"You're late, bebe..."
"Ah, yeah," Blink said, with just a touch of embarrassment, attempting unsuccessfully to flag down one of the girls roaming the crowd with drink trays. "Wasn't tryin' for it, but you know how it goes." He gave a noncommittal shrug, then added in a huff as another waitress hurried by, ignoring him. "Jesus, a guy could die of dehydration 'round here!" Settling for a life without a shot of cheap whiskey (at least for a moment), he turned back to Brook, sliding from his perch on the back of the chair down into the seat. "I got a little hung up over in the Bronx. Talkin' to that girl-leader. You know the one." He waggled his eyebrows suggestively before turning away again to look for another waitress. "Wonder if she's hooked on to some guy..."

Bumlets swatted at the both of them and chose it was better to ignore the ravings of mad men then to actually give into the temptation to react.
Brook looked over at Blink as he spoke and rolled her eyes a bit with a half smile, he was the cause of and solution to most of her problems. "Some creep knocked me in the pond yesterday and your just.." she sighed, and said it low enough he probably didn't hear her at all. She gave him a soft shove when he spoke about the leader girl having a guy and she rolled her eyes.
"You are shameless, bebe," she said a bit louder, how was it that she always stayed at his side stupid and rather devoted when he didn't give her the same? She ran her hands threw her hair and turned in the seat, pulling one knee to her chest as she watched him with a small smile and a shake of her head. "You know, the grass isn't always greener." she reached over and ruffled his hair a bit with a slight smile.
Bumlets just grunted, oh god it was so obvious. One day if Blink didn't wise up, he was just going to tell him rather bluntly and even in words that he could understand. But for now seemed that Brook handled her situation better than most could expect. He tugged his cap down father over his eyes as the cajun girl just smiled.

Fighter nodded her head at Danny when he sat down, "Danny." She took another sip of her drink as she glanced around the room at the fools filling up every empty space. Holding back a sigh she looked back at her friends but didn't say anything further.
Lexi walked in the room with Reid and immediately felt overwhelmed by the number of newsies in here. Reid put his arm around her shoulder and led her to an empty table near the front. "Take a seat Lex, I'll get us a drink. Water?" Lexi nodded her head absently and didn't say anything. She wanted this meeting to get started so she could hear what they had to say.

"You are shameless, bebe. You know, the grass isn't always greener."
Blink grinned, still scanning the crowd. "I know," he agreed, completely missing her meaning, "but sometimes, mon petit fromage, it really, really is." His eyes lit as he noticed Lexi being led through the crowd by her brother to a table nearby. "Ooh, there she is." He considered going over to her, but contrary to common belief, he wasn't a complete boor. She didn't look terribly comfortable with being here, and besides, that brother of hers was escorting her. With them being here to talk to about the missing kids, including Lexi's youngest brother, maybe this was a family-type thing for them or something.
And leaving Brook would basically mean throwing her to the wolves. They'd already shown they weren't above hemming a girl into the middle of a pack to try to have their way with her. Like hell he was gonna give anyone a chance to try that with his Brook Lynn again.
Instead, he settled back into his chair, giving up on cruising the crowd for a gin-toting waitress, and draped his arm over the back of Brook's chair and kicked the back of Bumlets's chair. "Hey, how long have you been waiting around?" he asked. "Anyone seen any sign of Jack or the others?"

Half Pint placed the cigarette in the ashtray on Snoddy's knee, and gave him a sheepish look through his coughing fit. He looked around the room searching for one of the girls who were bringing around drinks, so he could ask for a water or something to soothe his coughs. He waved at one of them to come over but they didn't seem to notice him so he shrank back into his seat and covered his mouth with his hand, trying to stifle the coughs that seemed, fortunately, to be lessening.
Then, Half Pint turned to Styx and asked, "Why do you guys *cough* like those things?" He made a face of disgust and stuck his tongue out.
