"Yes, I d--" Catherine's sentence was cut short when Reeves' took her hand and kissed her. For a moment she just stared at him. She wasn't angry, just a little...surprised. Nobody, not even her parents, had ever kissed her, at least not anywhere on her face. She was always kissed on her hand. Whenever her father would introduce her to the nice young men who, in his words, would someday rule this country, they would gingerly take her by the hand and kiss it softly.
She looked deep into Reeves' eyes. She placed a soft, porcelain hand upon his cheek gently, moving closer and placed a small kiss on his lips.

Reeves smiled back at her, and turned to look back out at the buildings in the distance, and his smile faded into a small frown. He knew he shouldn't have done that, that he had let his heart run away with him. It didn't matter how much Catherine liked him, or how much he liked her. He would end up getting Catherine in trouble, he knew it.
"I'm sorry, Catherine...I knows I shouldn't have done that. Just imagine if Henry or your father was here..."
He trailed off, knowing no matter what he ever did, he still wouldn't be right for Catherine. Her family was probably one of the richest in New York City, and he was just a dirt poor Jersey kid. He would never be able to provide for her properly. He wasn't good enough for her, though he would do anything for her. He fiddled with the button on his vest, his blue eyes sad.

Catherine frowned and followed Reeves gaze out over the city. She was quiet, not knowing what to say. It was true what they had done was unacceptable. The trouble she would be in if her father or one of her brothers or anyone had seen her would be great, but even worse would be the trouble Reeves would be in. Mixing classes was greatly frowned upon and some even looked at it as a crime.
"It isn't fair," she said quietly, still looking out. She knew they could never be together, but she wouldn't accept it. She didn't understand it.
Catherine looked at Reeves' studying him a moment. He was no different than her brothers. His clothes weren't as nice and he didn't speak as well as they did, but that was all. She turned his face toward hers gently. "I don't care about any of that. That's them, it is not me."

"It isn't fair,"
Reeves knew that fair well. Everything he loved or had loved had always been taken away from him. The same thing would happen with Catherine. He knew if Catherine was seen with him, for one her father's business might be affected, the whole family would be affected. Reeves knew how fast rumors traveled in the society. But he loved her, he loved Catherine Woodruff.
"I don't care about any of that. That's them, it is not me."
He nodded and looked into her perfect face. "I know Catherine. You're different. I'd be willing to do anything for you...but I'm only getting you in trouble..." He sighed wearily, holding her hand, wishing there was no society or rich and poor.

Catherine loved her family deeply, exspecially her father and did not wish to cause them any grief. She sat there and held Reeves' hand, not saying anything. What could she say? They both knew the inevidable. She wouldn't be able to see him again. As the ferris wheel got closer to ending, she laid her head upon his shoulder wanting nothing more than to just stay there.

He pulled her close as her head laid on his shoulder, his arm wrapped around her. His whole chest was tight in disappointment. But he wasn't going to let it get the best of him, he would give Catherine a day to remember, no matter what.
He put a smile on her face, and lifted her chin gently so she was looking into his face.
"We can still enjoy the day while it lasts, eh?" He asked softly, knowing he had to swallow his disappointment.

"Sure." Looking up at Reeves' she managed a small smile, trying not to think of anything but the rest of the day. She could be sad when she got home later, but right now she was going to enjoy being out.
"So, how about that cotton candy?"

"So, how about that cotton candy?"
"Sure thing, cotton candy sounds great. I could use some right about now. Twill' give me strength for the ring toss, eh?" He nudged her shoulder gently, spreading that wide lopsided grin across his face.
He helped her down from the ferris wheel, and the two strolled through the park, looking for a cotton candy stand. They reached one and Reeves paid for two. It was fun to watch the man make them. Reeves watched him with a close eye and said, "Eh, feller, one penny more and say you make it a little bigger for the princess here? I'm paying good money for this you know," He winked at Catherine.
The man grunted and made it bigger. Reeves handed the big fluffy mass of sugar to Catherine and took a little piece, popping it into his mouth and letting it melt.
"Try it, its good! Sticky..but good!"

Catherine took the huge fluff and looked to Reeves, uncertain. That's when she thought of its name -- cotton candy. "It isn't real cotton, is it?"

"It isn't real cotton, is it?"
Reeves chuckled at her question and shook his head. "No silly, they wouldn't make candy that you'd choke on. It's basically fluffy sugar. Trust me, its good, Catherine. Just try it," He grinned and took a big bite of his to encourage her.

Catherine smiled and took a small piece from the side. As soon as it touched her tongue the sugary cotton began to dissolve. Her lips pursed at the extreme sweetness of the candy. It was unlike anything she had ever tasted before. Her eyes widened and became wired as she took another bite.
"It's very sweet, but good." She smiled.

"It's very sweet, but good."
He grinned and shook his head. "Maybe I should have started you on something less sweet, like ice cream. Or hot dogs, I like hot dogs, too bad there ain't hot dog eating contests here, I'd probably win," He joked.
He finished his cotton candy quickly, and his eyes wandered the park. "We can try a couple games and then I'll show you a place or two, and then I'll walk you home if you'd like," Reeves suggested.

Catherine nodded as she continued eating her cotton candy. At the mention of games, her eyes widened. There weren't many games that she had been allowed to play. Her father taught her to play chess and sometimes in the summer her and her brothers would play croquet, but that was about it. She grabbed his hand excitedly and dragged him toward the games. Okay, maybe something as sweet as cotton candy wasn't the best thing for her.

He laughed at her energy and excitement, and allowed himself to be dragged towards the games. Reeves scanned for his favorite games, ones that Catherine would probably enjoy as well.
He saw the ring toss and pointed it out to Catherine, and she in turn dragged him over to it. They waited in line until it was their turn and Reeves stepped up. His gaze went to the prizes, but his eyes rested on one particular prize. A beautiful intricate little music box. A perfect gift for Catherine, he knew he didn't need to spoil her or anything, but it would be nice to give her something that she could look back on the day and remember, a part of Reeves she could have. Plus it was small and could be easily hidden or disguised but beautiful and wonderful at the same time.
The man handed Reeves the rings. His face grew determined. He would have to try his hardest, he didn't want to lose.
He threw the first ring, it just about skimmed the bottle and then ringed around it. He threw the second one, success as well. Threemore to go, he smiled at Catherine and focused, threw it watching it glide onto the bottle with a chink as the third one slid into place with the others, only one more ring to go.

Catherine waited anxiously as Reeves' threw the rings onto the bottles. He was really good. She smiled at him and laced her her finger in front of her, bouncing a little bit. Not wanting to break his concentration, she remained quiet and wished for the best.
