"Who, me? What are you talking about, I am happy! I spend my days selling with the prettiest girls this side of the Ol' Mississip, and I spend my nights free as a bird! Who wouldn't be happy?"
She smiled softly and brushed her cheek against his in almost the way a kitten would to someone they liked. "We," she murmured. "Who wouldn't be happy?" She continued walking towards Tibbys.
Well that wasn't for her, she continued to smile. "Honestly, are you happy, mon che?"

"Honestly, are you happy, mon che?"
Blink thought for a moment, considering it, before answering. "I gotta bed, I got the money to pay for it and still eat, I got friends and I got a gorgeous girl beside me. Yeah, I'm happy." He paused for a minute, then cast her a sidelong glance. "What's with the philosophicalizing, anyway? You got something goin' on I oughta know about?" He found himself bristling at the thought of someone leaning on Brook. "Need me to... take care of someone?"

She chuckled and shook her head, "Non, non, don't worry, mon che.." She kissed his cheek and shook her head. "Non, just thinking to much I think.. not enjoying enough. And worrying about the real world finding us some day.." kind of like they lived in a world where the real world was held at bay. Her family helped her keep it that way.

Blink quickly returned her smooch and slung an arm around her shoulder, pulling her to his side. "What are you hiding from, mon petit frommage? What you got goin' on that you don't want that mean ol' real world to know about, huh?"

She laughed and shook her head, "You know that that means little cheese right, mon che?" she sighed and leaned her head against his arm as they walked. "Oh I don't know, the real world is a dangerous place, I kind of like this one, where we are and sure we have to worry about starving and dying but... something about it seems safe.." The Newsies made it safe for them

"You know that that means little cheese right, mon che?"
Blink hadn't known that, actually. He knew it meant something silly and close to endearing, but hadn't known exactly *what*. Not to be shown up, though, he grinned and nodded.
"Oh I don't know, the real world is a dangerous place, I kind of like this one, where we are and sure we have to worry about starving and dying but... something about it seems safe.."
"Don't get too comfortable in that safe feeling, girl. Bad things still happen to kids like us. We're smarter than most, because we gotta be, and we can take care of ourselves better than the snobs and hob-knobbers, but even we ain't invincible. You know there's kids going missing, right? No one's seen Pup or Milo in a few days--that ain't too bothersome, though, 'cause they kinda keep to themselves. They coulda wandered off or something, found themselves a new place to stay. But we ain't seen Manhattan, either, or Dutchy's girl Shiner, or Sweets. And I hear there's other kids that can't be found."
Keeping his arm around Brook, he pulled off his hat and stuck it in his back pocket. It was too warm to wear it now, he could feel his hair dampening with sweat.
"Don't fool yourself, cherie. We got ourselves a hell of a real world of our own."

Her eyes widened when she heard all of that, though she hadn't seen Sweets in a few days she hadn't thought anything of it. Frowning, she looked at the ground and scooted a little closer to her taller friend. What had her papa said?
"Mo petite che, you live in a world were bad things only happen to bad people... the real world isn't that way.."
She watched him take off his hat and she bit her lip, "I didn't know, mon choux.." Now she wasn't just down but frightened, who was taking them and would she be next? She didn't want to be afraid all the time so she wandered around ignoring bad thing but now she couldn't. And she was starting to feel fear for the first time in awhile. It showed on her face.

Glancing to Brook, Blink saw the alarm registered on her face, and stopped walking for a moment to put both arms around her in a tight, reassuring hug.
"Don't worry, darlin'," he soothed. "Don't worry. We're gonna find a way to get those kids back, I just know it. I hear one of the Brooklyn boys is through the roof about it, and you know nothin' can stop those Brooklyn kids. Until we put a stop to the snatching, just be smart. Don't go anywhere alone, don't go out after dark unless you gotta. Stick with me, I won't let anything happen to you."

Brook set her head on his shoulder when he hugged her and listened to what he said. It was all smart advice, people normally didn't give Blink credit for just being smart. They always said he was over the top, always happy but he was talking about protecting her.
After a moment she gripped the side of his shirt with her hands and basically ignored the rest of the world again. "Thanks, mon choux. I'll stick with you.." she didn't want to end up like her friends, vanished to some unknown place. "We've got to find, Sweets and Shiner, mon che.. we've got to find them.." they were her friends too. She felt like such an idiot for not noticing their absence.

"We've got to find, Sweets and Shiner, mon che.. we've got to find them.."
Blink unwound their arms from each other, placing them back in their former positions to continue on to Tibby's. "I know we do, and we will. If Brooklyn's going after them, then we're on the same side. Spot knows he can count on Jack, and Jack knows he can count on us. If us newsies can take on a big shot like Pulitzer and come out on top, no problem us taking on some pissant little kid-snatcher, preying on little kids and girls out on their own. And if there's been kids going missing from all the boroughs, you can bet every one of 'em will be out for blood to get them back."
Blink swiped a finger under his eye patch, wiping away the sweat that collected there. Truth be told, he was kind of talking out of his ass. The things he'd heard from Brooklyn were just rumors, and he didn't know any of the Brooklyn kids well enough to get verification on any of it. Didn't know if the kids and girls were being snatched when they were alone at night, or in broad daylight with no one around who'd give a damn what happened to some street urchin. He didn't even know if Jack and Spot were friends or enemies this week, or whether Manhattan would be welcome at the skull-bashing party when and if Brooklyn got any answers. But he couldn't tell Brook his uncertainties. He was trying to make her feel better, dammit.

She lifted a brow up at him and reached up tugging on his blond hair a little before she sighed. She hadn't been in the city long enough to know if all that was true and she knew Blink could tell stories but she tried to grasp at the straw of hope he offered and hold it tightly. She set her head against his shoulder again. There were reasons Brook would wait for hours just to spend time with him. But the little Creole wasn't about to tell anyone those reasos. Risk getting her heart broken and make a friendship she cherished so much fall to pieces.
"Dunno, mon choux," she whispered, the dark haired girl didn't know what awaited them the next day let alone the far future. But she wanted her friends back. She also didn't understand, why them and not her? Wasn't that strange? Or maybe she'd just been in the right places to avoid it. But the news had her frightened and even more so upset that she couldn't really do much to help her friends.
"I'm really useless aren't I?"

"I'm really useless aren't I?"
Blink stopped dead in his tracks. "Huh?!" he croaked, staring at Brook. "Where the hell did that come from? Of course you're not useless! Don't tell me, you're thinking you haven't been kidnapped because the people doing the snatching don't want you, right? Baby, these bastards aren't being that choosy--hell, they took Pup and Milo for god's sake. They're taking whoever they can grab, whoever they can get without putting up too much of a fight. You're still here because they didn't find you when you were easy pickins. And now you're not gonna be, 'cause you got me." He reached out and ruffled her hair gently, giving her a playful wink. "If I was snatching kids for something, you'd be the first one I grabbed, girl."

Her brow lifted as he went on his spiel about her not being useless at all. At least in that way. She consented that it was true, she wasn't but she found herself smiling at him anyway.
Blowing her hair out of her eyes when he ruffled her hair she took his hand in hers and started walking. "Alright, mon che. I get it.." she actually understood what he meant. But he didn't understand what she was talking about. It was alright though-- it was Blink.
She practically let him get away with anything.

*NEW DAY*
Medda had been walking for what seemed like hours, but it wasn't helping to clear her mind like it usually did. These were difficult and frustrating times and nothing seemed to get her mind off the ugliness of the world she was surrounded by. Innocent children going missing, being used for god only knows what and no one doing a damn thing about it. It was infuriating to say the least. She wished she could do something more for the children but as respected as she'd become she was still a woman in a mans world and no one gave a damn what she had to say or think. With a sigh she glanced around, not sure what she was looking for.

((New Day))
Finally, Roxanne got out of that stuffy house. Today was just like any other boring day, her father was at work, Norbert and Minnie were at home, and God knows where her mother is. The servants were awfully boring, they didn't talk that much, and when they did it was about something that Roxie didn't care about, or they were complaining.
That's why she decided to get out and take a walk. Maybe something exciting would happen. She lived for excitement and thrill, she couldn't stand a routine. She just couldn't stand doing something twice.
