"Barmaid," Daisy replied with ease. "At McGinty's over in Brooklyn. I have late shift tonight so I decided to come over and see a bit of Manhattan. What about you?"

Sweets raised her eyebrows, impressed. "Brooklyn huh? An' a barmaid? That can't be too easy with all those rough sorta fellas across da bridge." When asked about herself, she shrugged, feeling a bit outdone. "I jist sell papes, heah in 'hattan."

"It's alright," Daisy said with an amused smile. "I've been told I'm too nice for Brooklyn, which may be true, but I can hold my own when I need too." At Sweets simplistic answer to Daisy's question she frowned. "Selling papes is important. How would the rest of us know what was going on otherwise?"

She shrugged. "Well I guess ya make a point theah, an' we did stop the whole city with the strike an' all.." She grinned at the memory before looking down at the menu in front of her. "So whattya think of 'hattan so far? It's got a hoity-toity air ya don' find in Brooklyn huh?"

"A little bit," Daisy agreed. "It's fasinating how the different parts of the city have very defined...personalities. I'm most at home, here in Manhattan, but I think there is a part of me that likes Brooklyn."

She grinned, giving a small nod. "Shore, everyone's got somethin' in 'em that likes Brooklyn... Jist aint always da best place ta spend ya time, ya know?" She shrugged, hoping she didn't offend her.
"Manhattan's always been my home, but lately. . ." She glanced out the window thoughtfully, a small frown in her eyes. "It jist hasn't felt like 'ome."

Daisy watched the girl with a frown on her face. Tucking a few strands of hair behind her ear she folded her hands on the table, giving Sweets her full attention. "Did something happen?"

Sweets looked back at the girl, her lips pulling into a smile as she rested her chin on her hand. This had to be one of the nicest people she'd met in a long time. "Well, our leadah ditched out on us, I jist got outta da refuge, an' I can't seem ta find half a my friends... an' with da outbreak it jist, ya know, worries me."

"All valid reasons to worry," Daisy affirmed with a nod. "The outbreak tis a scary thing. My momma is sick and you never know who might be next." She shrug and then smiled at Sweets and reached across the table, patting her had reassuringly. "I'm sure your friends are around...people seem to be dealing with a lot these days."

She frowned. "Aw sorry ta heah 'bout ya Mum.." She couldn't say she knew what that would be like, having always been an orphan, but she still felt for the girl. "She go to the doctah or somethin'? Not that most people can afford it, but maybe a nurse or somethin'?"

Daisy shook her head sadly. "She won't go. No matter how much I insist. I'd try to find someone to come care for her, but I'm afraid it'd only make her angry." She stared down at her hands on the table. "I try to care for her the best I can...the papes have been good for that. Lots of information about the best things to do." Daisy smiled a little at Sweets before it faded on her face. "But I don't think she's going to make it."

"Aw, I'm so sorry..." She wasn't sure what to say, but knew there was nothing that could really comfort someone who was losing their mother. "But ya don' know right? She could pull through..."
She glanced out the window thoughtfully, worried even more now for her own friends. "I was plannin' on goin' ta visit 'em today.. My friends.. See how they're doin' an' all."

"Your friends will appreciate seeing that fresh face of yours," Daisy commented with a smile. "You'll be just what they need, I"m sure of it."

Sweets smiled, returning her gaze to the girl. "I hope you're right but," she sighed, resting her chin in her hand and fiddling with a napkin on the table. "I aint even shore I know how ta get there. I heah all the sick kids got taken somewheahs in Queens."

"Caprice Hall," Daisy nodded in affirmation. "I heard the owner has set the ballroom up as a quarantine. I was planning on heading over there myself at some point...maybe take some soup over."
