Hawkeye shrugged, then returned her gaze to the water, having glanced at Rose momentarily.
"Hey," she said after while, "Ya wanna go back ta the lodgin' house? We can get some money an' get somethin' ta eat at Tibby's or where ever. I dunno 'bout you, but I'm hungry, an' I didn't bring any money with me when I came out here," she explained.

Rose nodded, "Ya let's head out."
Rose stood for a moment looking out at the water, then began to walk off the bridge. She gestured for Hawkeye to follow as they headed for the lodging house.

((New Day))
Alley was defenately not on her side of New York. She stood on the third avenue bridge looking down at the water. Her mind really not there. She wanted to go into the Bronx but then again she didn't. She defenately wasn't going back into Manhattan unless she was going to run straight back to Brooklyn. She hated this danged war. She was forced to sell only so to speak in Brooklyn which drove her completely batty. She could even sell in the Bronx if she wanted too. Spot really needed to change his mind and stop this whole war. But was she to do get involved in leader affairs. That would just be completely bad but she might end up doing that anyways. She sank down leaning her back on the railing of the bridge careful to keep balance she looked at the people passing by. If they only knew. She started thinking about what she wanted. A home a family somewhere she could be safe and off the streets a place she could run too when she needed too. That dream slipped farther and farther away from her each day. Money was tight and even with all she had saved she still couldn't afford a place of her own. And she expected even with that she still wouldn't be happy. Her fears kept her on the streets but they also made her want to get off. A mix of emotion she just sat as if in a trance.

David Jacobs sighed as he made his way over the Third Avenue Bridge. He wasn't sure why he was around here, any Bronx newsie who hadn't been informed that the borough was now neutral could easily pick him out of the crowd. Still, even he couldn't get used to only staying in Manhattan or Queens. The war, in his mind, wasn't worth it. If it kept up, he doubted Spike would be the only kid dead on the streets.
His train of thought was broken as he almost tripped over someone. He mentally scolded himself to be more careful as he turned around to apologize to the person. Blue eyes widened slightly, realizing it was a newsgirl he had almost tripped over. But he hadn't seen her around Manhattan or the Bronx, and why would a Queens newsie come this far away? He shook the thoughts away.
"I'm sorry, I didn't see you there..." he trailed off, she seemed to be troubled by something. "Are you alright?" David asked with concern, his brow furrowing with worry. Whatever borough the girl belonged to, he wanted to make sure she was okay.

Alley jumped up almost right after David almost tripped on her. If she had been okay in the first place she wasn't now. She backed away from scared to death one that he knew she wasn't part of his territory and two he was a guy. She looked at him utter terror in her eyes. "Ise....." She couldn't get anything out, but she could move either. She took a deep breath trying to calm her nerves but she couldn't.

David was surprised. No, shocked, actually, that someone was so utterly terrified of him. Sure, he was a newsie, but he had never, ever scared somebody witless. He just didn't look the part of a tough guy with curly brown hair and bright blue eyes. Saying David Jacobs was intimidating was like saying Spot Conlon was a girl. It just went against logic.
"I won't hurt you, I just want to know if you're alright," he stated sincerely, concern in his eyes. He tried not to speak like he was talking to a little kid. "Are you okay?"

"I'm not a little kid." Alley managed to spit out sounding like a Brooklynite. "Ise sorry Ise just..." She wouldn't say it she couldn't say it but her eyes gave her away and she knew. "ise afraid of guys in general." There she said and she didn't feel any better about it. Plus he had surprised her so he didn't have many points going for him. Save for the concern his eyes showed. She calmed down just a little bit because of that.

"No, you're not, sorry," he apologized quickly. While he himself wasn't truely good at making people feel better; that was Jack, he suppoused he was doing better than most newsies in his case. Many would've shrugged and walked away.
"Well, my little brother thinks girls have cooties, so he's afraid of girls in general," David said with a small grin, trying to lighten the mood, but the concern in his eyes never vanished. "Don't worry, I don't like tossing people into the river...though I do consider it when Jack's being a pain."

Alley's eyes widened at David's last comment. "You mean you only throw someone in the river if Jack tells you too?" She wanted to clear that little bit up. "And did i hear right did you say Jack's a pain??" She was a bit weired out about the way David talked about his leader. Though she knew David had the brains to know what was best when it was best.
She giggled at his comment about his little brother thinking girls had cooties. He had lightened the mood she wasn't so scared now and she could see his wasn't going to hurt her.

"No, I don't throw them into the river. Ever. Jack can tell me to, but I never will," David said seriously. He had strong morals, and one of them was to give everybody a chance and try to solve things without violence. If the Manhattan Leader hadn't figured that out yet, it would be his problem when his best friend didn't listen to him.
"You haven't spent enough time with Jack to get through the charming and friendly part to the stubborn part," he told her with a grin. "I'm David Jacobs, by the way. And you are...?"

SlingShot wandered nervously through the Bronx. She knew it was neutral territory, but..... it was still nerve-wracking. When she came across 2 newsies on the bridge, she almost jumped out of her skin.

"Alley Cat." She said her confidence finding it's way back to her. "So you wouldn't listen to Jack if he told you to throw someone in the river. Well it shows you have morals. And that's a good thing." She looked down for a second then back up it was better now not to lie he hadn't asked her where she was from but she was going to tell him. "Ise a Brooklyn Newsie by the way and if you think Jack is stubborn..." She shut up right there. Spot was the whole reason well actually a dead brooklyn newsie was the reason for all of this.

SlingShot watched Alley speak to Dave and smiled. This was why she loved Brooklyn and everyone who lived there.

Ah, so this was Jack's 'stalker.' Well, David didn't hold anything against her, he hadn't annoyed him yet. Besides, Jack always over reacted about such things, it wasn't worth it to blame her for being in Manhattan more than once. Alley Cat didn't seem as annoying as the Manhattan Leader made her out to be, and you couldn't judge somebody for being in the same place as Jack by mere coincidence.
"I know, and I'm still not going to throw you into the river, if that's what you're wondering," he said, his suspicions about her confirmed. He grinned at the statement involving Spot, able to guess the rest. David had received his nickname from the Brooklyn Leader, ironically enough, and had seen how stubborn he could be. "What brings you to the Bronx, Alley Cat?"
