Alley looked at Slingshot and David confused. She had no clue what was going on. She shrugged it off and looked ahead of her. She finally sat down and put her head down as she had been before David had showed up.

David blinked, surprised at SlingShot's words. Sure, he wasn't exactly fond of her attitude at moments in time, but he didn't have a problem with her. The Manhattan newsboy even consider her an acquaintance, perhaps just for letting him get out of Brooklyn safely, but still and acquaintance.
"I don't have a 'problem' with you, SlingShot," he said slowly, but sincerely. "I really do have to go. My mom will worry herself sick if I don't get back soon."

Alley looked at him. "Well then don't keep her waitin'." She smiled at him kindly. But inside she wished she had someone to care that much about her an adult that was. Sure she had fellow newsies but still.

SlingShot couldn't help but smirk. You didn't hear many newsies talking about getting to their mothers. She quickly wiped the smirk off her face and replaced it with a sincere smile. "I can't wait till da war's ovah, Davey. I really wanna get ta know you an' Jack..."

David smiled, the first smile to SlingShot that wasn't a smirk or a nervous one. The Brooklynite wasn't that bad...He had just been annoyed by her attitude. But then again, she came from Brooklyn. If you didn't have an attitude in Brooklyn, he suppoused you couldn't survive. He nodded.
"There isn't a newsie out there who isn't looking forward to the end of the war," he said with another grin. "I've got to go. It was nice seeing you again, SlingShot. And nice meeting you, Alley Cat."
With that, the Manhattan newsboy headed back towards his own borough.

SlingShot smiled. Trying to be nice to people was actually...... working. She turned to Alley. "Are you okay Alley?"

Alley nodded her head and lead the way to Orchard Beach. She was in the mood to look at the water. It always had a calming effect and at the moment she just loved to hear it wash up on the sand.

SlingShot quietly followed her, lost in thought.

((new day))
Smokes sat on the side of the bridge, looking down at the water. She couldn't believe that she had just let Coop go. She never thought she could be talked out of anything, but that boy, Peem, got to her in a way that no one else could before.
As she stared at her reflection in the water, she felt a strange sense of emptiness. After her brother died she only lived for one reason, and that was to avenge his death. Even though she took the noble road, that didn't mean all the others would be so kind to Coop or to her for that matter.
In her eyes, she was a traitor now. By not killing Coop on the spot, she had betrayed her whole family and her whole gang, the two most important things to her. She felt no purpose. Her brother's reflection seemed to be in the water next to hers. He shook his head in disappointment.
Hopefully Coop had taken her advise and left, for if she ever saw him again, she would have no choice, but to kill him or die trying.

Peem was walking down the bridge, eating a pretzel happily. Things hadn't been bad as of late. Met a curious girl, got a Pretzel. Not bad.
He raised an eyebrow as he saw Smokes, looking quite forlorn. He would have asked her who died--but that probably would have a been a bad idea.
"....hey."

Smokes continued looking down at the water, not even looking up at Peem, but she recognized his voice. "How you doin'?"
