Buck smiled and nodded, "Yeah, just sleepin' I guess." He said with a strong southern accent, sifting his hands to better support her. "She was lost, and I was just helpin' bring her home." He looked past the girl, into the building, "I hope this is it." He muttered to himself. He continued standing in the doorway, not wanting to come in until invited. "My name is Jameson; eh, but you can just call me Buck." He would reach out his hand, so he could shake her's, but he didn't want to risk dropping the little girl.

Jennifer shook her head, "Come on in, Buck." She smiled at his accent, "We don't leave anyone standing in the door." She gently took the girl from his arms and laid her on the couch, covering her with a blanket.
"My name's Jennifer." She held her hand out, grinning, eyes sparkling. She could tell a lot about a person from the first moment she met them, and he was a good one. She could tell. "I guess you can call me Jenni, if you want. I don't really have a nickname."

"Thank you." He said, as she took Innocence from him, and laid her down on the couch. He walked into the room, as he did, he removed his hat. After her introduction he reached out his hand and shook her's. "Nice to meet you, miss Jennifer." He said. He was well spoken, very kind and gentle with his words. His eyes, thought, seemed to contradict his words. They looked as if her were always in deep thought; almost as if he were constantly trying to decide if he liked or trusted you. They were narrow, and sometimes, between speaking, they seemed a little harsh. "I'll just call you Jennifer, if you don't mind." He said putting both hands on his hat, holding it in front of him.

Innocence stirred on the couch only to tighten her grip on Beary. She was sleeping soundly for the first time in a little bit. She would have woken up but she was used to the couch so she just snuggled more into it.

Jennifer smiled. "No, I don't mind. You're the first person who has." She kind of liked it, actually. She was looking at him much the same way he was looking at her, trying to tell on which side of the spectrum he was on. He was definately coming up as good in her eyes, and that made her smile more soft. "Do you want to sit down?" She gestured toward a chair. "I promise I don't bite."

Buck nodded at the kind gesture, "Why, thank you, that would be nice." He said, walking to the chair she had kindly pointed out for him, and sitting. "And, I would hope you don't bite." He said, a little seriously. He had never heard that phrase before, and wasn't sure if it was a joke, or if people in New York bite sometimes. He looked over at innocence as she stirred, but looked back to Jennifer when he saw that Innocence was still sleeping.

Jennifer sat down across from him, after fixing the edge of the blanket that had slipped down off of Innocence's shoulder. "Its an expression." She explained, "meaning Im harmless, kind of." She frowned, realizing harmless might not be the best example. "Means that there's nothing to worry about.'
That would ahve to do. She grinned and shrugged a bit. "In any case, it's obvious you're not from around here. Where're you from?" She loved his accent. Reminded her of her daydreams of wide open spaces and freedom.

Buck smiled and gave a small, warm chuckle. "I should have known you folks aroudn here don't bite." He said, feeling a little funny about taking that almost seriously. "I don't worry much, unless there's a vaquero gone missin', or a cow having trouble with her birthing." He shrugged, "But I don't see much vaquero around here."
He smiled when she pointed out that it was obvious he wasn't from around here. "Yes, miss, you're correct. I'm from a nice 'ole ranch in Texas." He spoke proudly, and it seemed to be the only point in this conversation where his eyes lit up, and they showed his happiness.

Innocence woke up. She was still sleepy but she couldn't sleep now. She sat up and curled into a little ball in the corner of the couch and silently listened to the two other people that were in the room. She held Beary tightly to her still.

Jennifer grinned. “I don’t think you’d find many cows either.” She pulled her feet up in the seat, curling up on the arm of the chair. “Its sad, but around here, people have lost the country. Even though its so beautiful.” She sighed. How anyone could not see it for what it was... It was beyond her comprehension.
“Texas?” Her eyes lit up and she shook her head slowly. “Lucky... Wish I could go out there.” There was a wistful look in her eyes and a soft smile on her face. “Why everyone talks about staying here... It bothers me. I don’t want to be cooped up. I want to be free, I want to fly.” A blush darkened her face. “Oh...Im rambling...I’m sorry.”
Turning her head to the now awake girl, Jennifer slid over to her, smiling. “Hey. You okay?” She asked, smoothing back the little girl’s hair and pulling the blanket back up a bit.

Buck smiled, as she talked about leaving the city. He shook his head as she appologized for rambling. "Nah, it's ok, I understand." He said; it was true, things were amazing in the country. "Flying is what horses are for." He thought of his horses back at the ranch as he said that. "As interesting as I find New York; I can't wait until I return to my ranch." He did like New York, and it was fun here... definitly a good vacation spot... but he couldn't imagine living here for so long. "I only came here because my family was having money trouble, and the town I live in has just about every job full up. It's either get good money with the Vaquero, or starve. I volunteered to come here and get a job or two, then send back the money I make; keeping only what is necessary to live." He explained.

"I've never been on a horse." Jennifer shrugged her shoulders a bit. Never had the oppurtunity, and they kind of scared her...since she'd never seen one really up close before. She listened to him talk and grinned a bit. "That's awfully great of you." Her eyes sparkled a bit, and she chuckled. "It's not all that bad...But its too much of a cage. I'm cooped up here, but I've never been anywhere else."

Buck was almost a little shocked, "Never?" He asked, almost in disbelief. "Well, a lady like you, talking about wanting to fly and be free, must know what it's like to ride, just about, the only animal that knows how to really fly with the wind." He now had to get this girl on a horse. He thought of New York, and how closed in it was, compared to Texas. "Aye, it is like a cage, not to bad for a wile, but at some point you start wanting to break the bars." He could barely go an hour without wanting to be outside. He even dreams of running with his horses, out in the fields. New York was tough, it was hard to get out, and even if you did, it never felt like the real nature he was used to.

Jennifer brought her hand up, rubbing her other arm gently. "I...never knew anyone who had a horse, or was around them much." She looked down at the ground, a weak smile on her face. "I would love to be free and fly, even if its only for a little while. At least then...I'd be there. I'd have felt it, ya know?" She nodded at him. "I've been trying to break those bars for years. I can't do it on my own." She flushed a bit and shrugged. "But any boy I've ever met...doesn't care about that. They would rather burn the fields, burn the plains, and build homes and factories.."

"Well, then, miss; you're talking to a different sort of boy." He said. "I'm ready to plow those fields, and have a nice herd of Vaquero on those plains; not burn them." "I work at Sheepshead stables, I could get you a nice ride on one of the horses there; not as good as Quarter horses, Appaloosas, or Mustangs; but they're still horses." He said with the nod of his head. He turned his head towards Innocence, "Whenever you're awake enough to tell me we're at the right place, go ahead and shoot it out." After speaking he looked back to Jennifer. He was talking to her, and just enjoying her company, he didn't notice... well... her. She was a beautiful girl; his eyes opened more, and a slight smile crept on his face.
