Jack sighed and looked at Prince for a moment, then back at Hawkeye. "You know, if you's havin' issues with money, ya can come to me. I'm not gonna letcha starve or end up on da streets." He pushed his hat off his head, clearly her words troubling him--more than they normally would.
The Raconteurs were betting on people like her to join them.

The smirk faded from her face, "Yeah, I know ya won't." There was a pause in the conversation. Finally, Hawkeye asked, "I know you're supposed ta check in on ya newsies, but you seemed slightly," she thought for a moment, trying to think of the right word, "Er, distraught," She hoped that meant what she thought it did, "'S something wrong?" She looked between Jack and Prince, figuring if one didn't know, the other would. "Er, not that 's any of my business," she added hastily with a shrug.

Jack looked her straight in the eye. "There is something fishy going on in this town, Hawkeye. If someone asks you to 'join' them to get more money--tell me. Please." He wasn't going to tell her to refuse though.
He looked over at Prince. "...do you know what I am talking about, Prince?" Maybe the contacted the other burroughs.

Now she was curious. Hawkeye nodded, "Yeah, I'll tell ya, but I still dunno what you're talkin' 'bout," she had expected Jack to add in something about "not joining" this... someone who was asking people to join them. She racked her brains for a possible cause for someone to "join" something to get more money. She smirked slightly, "What, is there a circus in town that's short of performers? Gotta problem with clowns, Jack?" She arched an eyebrow, hoping to lighten the mood a bit.
[Er... they did have circuses back then, right?]

[yeah, they had carnivals and things like that. you're good. ^.^]
Prince shook her head to Hawkeye, "Not exactly clowns, though to be honest, I haven't met one, so... who knows?" she laughed a little. She did know exactly what Jack was talking about. There'd been a note on her door too. "Just... from what I've hoid they ain't da nicest guys in da city." After all Red had said that Ariannette had been kidnapped by them, so they weren't good news at all.

Jack shuddered. "Yes I do. I hate clowns--never know what is behind the mask...scary creatures they--...but thats not what I'm talking about." He shook himself. "I don't know how ya supposed to make money for them, Hawkeye--but I don't think it's sellin flowers or nuthin like that....I don't think so at all."
But he really didn't know now...did he? "...what have you hoid, Prince?"

Hawkeye's smirk grew wider with Jack's response to the clown comment, but turned into a slightly contemplative look as he and Prince went on about this person or, what seemed to be, a group of people.
"So... Ya think they're tryin' ta get newsies ta join 'em an' do... that stuff... that they... do?" she finished lamely. She shook her head, "No offense, but, they can't be that fantastic. I mean, it's New Yawk city--they've gotta be pretty damn rich ta be able ta give people like us "more money," an' if they were that rich, I dun see why they'd be wastin' their time an' money on us." She folded her arms, half scowling, "Maybe 's jus' someone playin' a joke ta get us all worked up over nothin'." She said trying to convince herself more so than Prince or Jack.

"Or maybe they mean business," she said her face unreadable. "I've heard from people that they've kidnapped women. Specifically Ariannette, that performer lady, here in Queens. They took her right off da street from what I heah," she said. "I dun think their messin' around," she said shaking her head.

Jack looked over at Prince, his eyes widening. "...really?" He looked over to Hawekeye. "...see? I think these guys mean business. And the darker parts of New York do have lots of money. They just don't flash it about like normal Rich, Hawkeye."
He sighed. "This is definitely no joke." No...if it ever had been, it wasn't now.

Hawkeye remained quiet for a moment. Finally, she said, "So, whatcha gonna do 'bout it? I mean, I'm supposing it ain't jus' 'Hattan an' Queens that they're hittin' up, is it?" She looked at Jack, "'M'gonna take a wild guess an' say this is why ya here? Ta talk ta Prince 'bout this?" She glanced toward the doors, and muttered, "He's prob'ly gone by now anyway," she turned back to Prince and Jack, shrugging, "Jus' give me a heads up when ya want me out. Should be able ta make it back ta 'Hattan now."

Prince looked at Jack and shrugged. She didn't know what they were going to do about it, and surely, they weren't just targeting Queens and Manhattan. But truth be told... she had no idea how to fix this. They'd have to talk to Ace and Spot first, and then figure it out from there.

Jack sighed. "Yeah...if ya don't mind, Hawkeye..I guess I gotta cover leader stuff now...try and figure this all out." He forced a smile to the girl newsie. "Just...just stay away from those guys, okay? At least until we figure this all out."
He looked over to Prince, worried. Yes. They needed the other leaders...but word out on the street was that Ace had disappeared. Not good at all.

Hawkeye nodded and stood, "No problem, Cowboy--nice meetin' ya, Prince." She pulled her hat back on and headed toward the doors of the church. Half way there, she turned so she was walking backward. Calling back to Jack, she said, "An' course I'll stay 'way from 'em," she smirked, "Why would I go lookin' for someone who's kidnappin' people? I ain't stupid." She gave them a quick wave and turned around.
Unfortunately, she happened to turn into the door as someone opened it. There was a relatively loud crash, disturbing most everyone in the room. A faint shout of "I'm okay!" and the sound of the door closing signified Hawkeye's exit.
[Well... She left with a bang.. Literally. Oho, the wittiness-less of me.]

"Ow..." Prince said giggling slightly at Hawkeye's oh-so-graceful exit. "Quite the character," she said laughing slightly and looking at Jack. "Nice goil though... " she said nodding slightly.
But it was time to get back to business. She looked at him curiously... she wondered if that was all the business, or if there was more. But she had a feeling that was about it. After all, it was a rather large issue.

Jack sighed and slipped closer to Prince, slipping his arm around his shoulder, kissing her cheek in greeting. "...There." He seemed to ease up a bit. "Even if the world is falling about my ears, at least I have you Prince. As long as they don't get you too...I can survive." He smirked. "...though this is making me want to just throw you over my shoulder and run for Santa Fe..."
