Lukas' shoulders were slouched, his head hung low. He walked with his hands in his pockets, and a scowl on his face. He was irritated, actually terrified about the "war". Despite how much he denied it he was a weakling and all this ment was that he'd get some more bruises. He never could keep his trap shut.
He caught sight of the pretzel cart and grinned - something really German. He held a coin out to the vender and ordered in his native tounge, "Ich nehme ein" but the vender stared stupidly at him. Obviously not German he thought, "one." And gave him a sneer.
Once he got his pretzel he planted himself on the curb and ate, nostrils flared. "Ich hasse Manhattan..."he muttered, mouth full so particles of pretzel shot out.
((I'll take one))
((I hate Manhattan...))

Sweets sauntered over to the pretzel cart with her hat low, hiding her face. She hadn't heard much about this "war" yet, so she thought she'd be better off staying discrete. However, she had also decided there could be no harm in just coming over for a pretzel, right?
Walking past a boy sitting on the curb she heard him mutter something she found vaguely familiar. Pausing, she took a step back and eyed his back curiously. "Warum?"
((Why?))

Lukas looked up, pretzel hanging out of his mouth. GERMAN! he loved hearing other speakers. He couldn't see her face though - which made him uneasy but he responded after swollowing some pretzel. "Sie sind Schweine! Und jetzt bin ich in einem Krieg!" He took another bite. And tried to see past the shadows. "Why do ya care?" he asked suspiciously
((They're swines! and now I'm in a war!))

Oh shit. She sighed inwardly. All she wanted to do was avoid any Bronx newsies, and the first thing out of his mouth was about the war. She wasn't about to stand up for Manhattan when she was in enemy territory, even if he did insult it. She ignored his first comments, but mumbled a reply to his question. "Entschuldigung, ich habe dich gehört . . ." She could seem him clearly eyeing her. Quickly she turned away and approached the pretzel cart, hoping he would just go away.
((Excuse me, I heard you. . .))

Lukas narrowed his eyes. Something wasnt right about her - she didnt even bother finishing her response. He ate the last bit of his snack and followed her to the cart. He had his hands in his pockets and hovered behind her as he chewed. "Girly," he addressed her staying in english now, "sounds like youse like 'hattan, huh?" He got close to purposely make her uncomfortable.

Sweets heard the boy approaching her from behind. It was obvious he was suspicious, so she distractedly looked ahead at the line in front of her then turned to face him casually. "I guess," she said shrugging, turning away to face the back of the person in front of her. She knew he was still suspicious, but wasn't too worried. Her ability to lie was something that had helped her out of many situations in the past.

Lukas twisted his mouth up, not happy with the answer her got. She was unfamiliar, but still he was not to sure about her. He stared at the back of her head for a while longer then cleared his throat with an exagerated caugh. He moved around her so he could see her face, a cheesy fake smile across his own. "So what or whom are yooou hiding from?" He asked nosily, something he did best, to pump her for information.

She casually adjusted her hat, revealing more of her face. "I aint hidin'," she said, raising an eyebrow at him. "What's wit da questions, huh?" she turned her attention back to the line as it began to move.

Lukas narrowed his eyes at her. He did not enjoy having questions being thrown back in his face. "What can i say, I'se curious 'bout everythin' " he raised his shoulders and flashed his cheesy smile again. She was a challenge, he was not going to back down. He looked her up and down, taking a step back while he thought. "Whats yer name?" He asked bluntly then pointed to himself with his thumb "Lukas Berg". He put his hand out for her to shake, a smile smirk on his face.

She watched him eyeing her with a smirk on her face. "Victoria," she said, using her real name. She reached out her hand to shake his politely, free of any saliva-- which would have been a dead give away. She grinned to herself, did he really think she was that easy?

His smirk didn't faulter when she said her name. Sure it was normal but so was his. He grabbed her hand gave it a stiff shake then in one swift movement fliped it over so he could see her palm. His eyes widened with excitement then he held his other hand, palm up, next to hers. Black and dirty. "Ink stains don't lie." He let go of her hand, smugg expression overtaking his stare. "Manhattan i'se guessin'..."

Sweets tore her hands away from the boy quickly, drawing them near herself as if he had somehow hurt them. How could she have been so careless?
"It aint none o' your business weah I'm from," she said defensively, and turning to leave she added in a somewhat softer tone, "Lass mich in Ruhe."
((Leave me alone))

"No." He said pointedly and followed her, hands back in his pockets. "an' besides didn't you want a wonderful Bronx pretzel?" he asked condescendingly.
Lukas didn't bother waiting for a response instead he sneered and continued. "You know you ain't sapose ta be ovah 'ere right, girl?" He wasn't stupid, she gave herself away, she was a Manhattaner and at the moment he loathed them all - one was a murderer, probably not this one but that hardly mattered.

She inwardly groaned as she saw she wasn't getting out of this that easily.
"oh yea?" She turned and looked up into his eyes. "Well then why don't ya let me just run along den huh?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
