After ordering a bowl of soup she rested her chin on her hand, staring out at the rain. "Did ya break even?" she asked in regards to his sales for the day. She had lost money that day, not even selling half of her papers.

((New Day))
Avalanche and Dusty walked into the restaurant. They saw that the table by the window was open, so they had a seat there. "So... those bruises of yours gonna be okay? I told ya it was an... uhh... adventurous job," he said with a sly smile at her.

Dusty nodded and sat down across from him. "I'm sure they will be... just a scratch or two..." she reassured him. She picked up the menu and bit her lip in thought. Sighing she placed the menu down on the table in front of her and study Avalanche for a moment. "Why did you leave? If you don't mind me asking..." she finally said, she had been curious about that for quite some time now and it was bugging her like those itches that, no matter how hard you scratch, they won't go away...

Avalanche looked up at her in surprise. "Ya mean why did I leave New York?" he asked. Because if she wanted to know why he left Virigina that was a whole nother story. "Well... ya know how memories can be..." no, no, that wasn't right... he had to think of how to say this. "Ya see... I've been back and forth from New York to Verginia more times than I can count. The first time I left I was... tryin' ta make a good life for my sister Balinda, and brother Max. That was after my muddah died, and b'fore I b'came a newsie." He sighed, he was confusing himself now.
"When I was a kid my faddah was killed in a fire, and I had ta get a job, and so did my muddah. Well, she got sick ya see, and she eventually died. I took Balinda and Max down ta Virgina, because I figured I could get more money for my work. We was livin' there just fine... 'til someone figured out we had no parents and were orphans. I was too young to be takin' care of them myself, so they put us in an orphanage. Balinda and Max loved it there, but I didn't care for it much, that's when I came back to New York, and became a newsie. I stayed here for a while, and grew up some, and became the leader of Queens. What drove me nuts was that my siblings weren't with me, so I went back to get them... it took longer than I thought," which was basically a lie, "and I only came to find out that they had been adopted anyway. Well, by this time I was a bit short on cash, so I sent my friend Dazzle a letter, and she brought me back." He said it all as if it were nothing. A typical day, a normal life, but it was far from both. Every time he spoke of his parents dying and his siblings being adopted before he could find them again he felt like he failed... he felt like he died just a little. However he hid it well, and pretened as though it were nothing.

Her jaw dropped. "Avalanche... I'm so sorry..." she shook her head and looked at her lap for a moment. "I didn't mena to... I shouldn't have..." she sighed. "Awe! Jeez I'm sorry..." She smiled. "But i am glad your here now..." she told him. "Ain't it grand! as my dad used to say..."

Avalanche smiled at her. "Nah, dun you worry about it... there's worse thin's than rememberin'..." which got him thinking. "What about you? What... else did ya dad used ta say?" he asked with a curious smile on his face as he leaned back in the booth and closed the menu infront of him.

Dusty smiled as the waitress put down the plate of fries in front of her. "He had alot of interesting sayings... ain't it grand was his favorite..." she shrugged. "He didn't have much time for me though..." her smile faded a little bit. "And then there was Rex..." she shook her head with a shiver. "Pretty much all the scaring that you have and will see on my body is from him.." she looked at Avalanche for a moment before continuing. "I ran away, i couldn't stand my parents neglect or my boyfriends beatings... it was a long time ago, i don't really remember..." she lied there, she did remember, in fact she more than remembered.

"Right..." Avalanche said quietly. "We're a pair, ain't we?" Avalanche said shaking his head. "Well... without hurt in someone's life then the good parts wouldn't seem so good, am I right?" he said lifting her face up to meet his once again. "Like I said... ya gotta remember the good times... gotta smile," he said with a wink.

And she did just that. "Your absoloutly right!" she told him, with a slight nod. She picked up a frie and quietly bit down on it, lost in thought for a moment. She looked at him for a moment, then back down at the plate of fries as she pushed it towards him.

He smiled at her and took one. Before putting it in his mouth he decided he was gonna mess with her just a bit. "Enjoying the date?" he asked as he put the french fry into his mouth, but smiled with his mouth closed at her.

She smiled at him. "Of course..." she didn't draw attention to the fact that he had just called it a date. Which it was, but she didn't think he thought that. She giggled and sat back a bit. "So it is a date then?" she asked, deciding against her previous thoughts.

"Let's look at the facts," he said to her. "One... I'm paying, point for date. Two... You asked... that doesn't help the situation, but... we'll give it half a point. Three you like me. You told me so yourself. So, there's another point. So... I guess you could call it a date if you want to." Avalanche however probably would not, but that is the way his mind worked. He was very strange when it came to girls. Just because he thought he liked one didn't mean that he acctually gave into the fact that he did. He'd have to get to know her better before he labled anything a 'date' in his mind.

"Yeah, i like you... But do you like me?" she challenged him, looking at him with a slightly critical eye. She leaned her head on a hand and raised an eyebrow at him. She knew she was putting him in a tough position.

He had REALLY been hoping she wasn't going to ask that question. The most Avalanche has ever had in a relationship with a girl was being her father or brother figure... well, he had had a few girl friends, but not much came of them. "Sure, I like ya," he said, "just... different." He hoped he hadn't hurt her. With time he figured he would like her more, but at the current time, he didn't act on those kinds of impulses where other people are hurt, just the ones that get himself hurt.

Dusty nodded. "I get it..." she wasn't trying to be mean and she also knew that he wasn't trying to hurt her. Her smile was slightly strained. The way he had said that just different, was what hurt her the most. She had heard that so many times, from men that had used her for there own pleasures, which she resented like the devil resents holy water. She stood. "Well.. I-I-..." she sighed in frustration.
