>>New Day<<< Joe took a drag of his cigarette and let the smoke burn his lungs. His eyes watched the street, he knew who he was here to talk to. If he waited long enough they would find him. So he sat and smoked and let the news sink in. One was back.

River walked down the street at a fast pace, he needed to pick up a few things from the boys lodging house that he'd forgotten there. He paused a moment when he noticed Joe standing on the porch before he continued on his way. "What're you doing here Joe?"

*NEW DAY* Reid sat on the front porch staring at the road as people walked by the house but he wasn't really seeing them. He was staring off into space and thinking about the days events. They'd laid their brother to rest and while Lexi and leaned against him crying he hadn't been able to shed a tear. Not one. It was an odd feeling to feel nothing. After the service he'd walked Lexi back to the girls house, made sure she got to her bunk okay, and then headed back here. He wanted to be there for his sister, really he did but he couldn't bring himself to stay at her side while she destroyed herself. She refused to eat or move most days and just when he thought things were looking up for her she'd seemed to be broken by the funeral. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. How had Lexi taken care of them after their parents had died? Pushing those thoughts away he stretched out his legs and looked up at the sky. He liked to believe that there was a heaven and that's where his brother was.

The girl that came down the walkway wasn't exactly anything really, her hair was long and it curled wildy and she made no attempt to hide that she was a girl. She wore a skirt, this go round, the bag slung under her arm. She smiled a little bit as she came up, but it froze a bit when she saw this... look.
"Hey, umm.. Dodger round?" She had to get in touch with the leader, she hadn't seen him in awhile, months at best and she'd seen Ace in Boston for a little while before she headed back. She'd gotten word then that things were well.. terrible but at least the Bronx was taken care of.

Reid looked up when he heard someone talking to him, he studied the girl before he answered. "Don't know, really, might be..." Reid shrugged and ran his hand over his head realizing he hadn't really noticed who had come and gone and people had been avoiding him lately. Not that he blamed them, he'd avoid himself if he could.
"Best chance is to check his room." Reid glanced at the ground before looking back up at her. He wondered briefly who she was and what she wanted to talk to Dodger about but he couldn't bring himself to ask.

There was something in his eyes that had Rori dropping her bag next to his feet and taking up a spot right next to him, watching him quietly before she spoke again. He looked, beat up and worse. That nothing was right with the world at all, after a moment she held out her hand to him.
"I'm Aurora, you can call me Rori.." she leaned down and dug into her bag, pulling out a tin soldier and holding it out for him to see. "See this? I got it from an old war vet out in Geogia, said he was at Gettysburg..."

Reid looked at her, slightly surprised by her actions. Taking her hand, "Reid." He listened to her speak, interested in the tin soldier. He didn't say anything at first though just studied the figurine in her hands. "Gettysburg, huh?"
Glancing up at her he wondered even more who she was and how she knew Dodger. Was she from here? Then again he hadn't known Dodger very long so he didn't assume to know everywhere he had been.

She nodded and turned it around in her hand watching the way the light glinted off of the scuffed up tin. She sat it on the ground in front of them and looked at it, "He told me that it was given to him by one of his mates. It crossed lines you see, the man that I talked to fought for the south but this-- had come from the north. Here as a matter of fact, the man said that his friend was fighting on the other side and took a bullet to the chest. As he lay dying he asked that this make it back to his family somehow... took near forty years to make it.." she looked over at him and grinned, she was an interesting girl.
"The man's legs didn't work well anymore so I told him I'd finish his mission for him.."

Reid listened to her talk with rapt interest. It was a story that had nothing to do with his pain and it was a welcome relief to get his mind off of it. To hear the girl weave her tale and to wonder just how much of it was true. Growing up where he did made him realize that sometimes people embellished things to take them to another place. "And who are you returning it to?"

"Some guy named Rafe Langston.." she shrugged her shoulders, he really looked like he needed a pick me up. A guy with that dour of a look needed something to take their minds off of their troubles. She looked over at him and smiled, "He lives in Manhattan but I wanted to come and see my old borough before I headed over. Want to come?" How did she do that? Just make a suggestion, make a friend and pick up to keep going? Rori hadn't ever let anything stop her and she always knew where to be for a good conversation.

The name wasn't familiar to him so he just nodded his head and listened silently as she continued talking. He became more intrigued with every sentence that left her mouth and when she asked if he wanted to come with her to deliver it he couldn't find any reason not to. "Sure..." He was curious about her past and he couldn't help but ask her about it at this point. "You're from the Bronx?" He'd been here a couple years now and hadn't seen hide nore hair of her so he figured she must have left before then.

She nodded as she got to her feet and dusted off her skirt, reaching down to pick up the tin soldier and placing it back in her travel sack. Rori looked a bit travel warn but you'd never know how long she'd been on the road by the smile on her face.
"I am, I was born here." she smiled at him and nodded down the street. "Come on Reid, there's an adventure to be had around the bend. You ever read King Solomon's Mines?" She had the book with her, she couldn't get enough of those great adventures that she'd gotten when she'd started to read the adventures of Allan Quartermain. The wind was right for a good day, then again that was how she looked at the world. The wind was always right even when it howled at her.

Reid shook his head and stood up as well, "Can't say I have. My sisters the reader, not me." He brushed off his pants and glanced toward the road, wondering if he was smiting his brothers memory by doing something other than mourning him on the day of his burial. Honestly he knew his brother would want him to do something to make his heart feel a little lighter but he couldn't help but feel a little guilty.
"When'd you leave?" He figured she must have spent quite a bit of time away from here if he didn't know her and hadn't heard someone speak of her. Then again even before this mess had begun he hadn't been exactly social with the other members of the house. It just hadn't been his way. They'd come here under less than comfortable circumstances and he'd always had that on his mind and when Perry had gone missing he couldn't bring himself to do anything but search and brood.

"It's a great book, about an adventurer named Allan Quartermain. I admire him.." she had to resist the urge to walk on fences and short walls as they walked, keeping to matching his steps before she reached down and took his hand when she found a shortcut, running as fast as she could down the alleyway and around the corner, nearly missing a vegetable cart when she emerged from the other side laughing.
Rori looked back, her face flushed with the run, "A couple years ago, my father died so I went after my brothers. Made it all the way to California and back... hit about anywhere I could go in between.."

He was slightly taken aback when she started running but he went with the flow and ran after her. When she looked back at him with a flushed face as she finally slowed her pace his eyes lightened a bit. He realized he was actually enjoying himself and it took him by surprise but he didn't let it show.
"Sounds like you've had quite a time." He let go of her hand and glanced around a bit. "Do you know where he lives?"
