Sonkai who had been walking for a good hour sighed when she finally caught sight of Peaches. Medda had asked her to see if she could find the girl since the two of them had grown to be friends and Sonkai hadn't complained because she figured it wouldn't be difficult to find her. Unfortunately she'd been proving wrong and her aching feet were attesting to that fact. Walking to the end of the dock Sonkai didn't say anything as she approached, instead she studied Peaches and the man who had caught her attention. He wasn't half bad but Sonkai was the last person to pay attention to any man no matter how nice he may be to look at.
As she got closer Sonkai cleared her throat so that Peaches wouldn't be alarmed when she approached. Leaning against a crate to relieve some of the tension from her feet Sonkai glanced once more at the man before focusing on Peaches. "Medda asked me to see if I could find you. We're going to need extra help tonight and you're the only person she thought would say yes."
Having repeated the message she was asked to Sonkai sank down beside Peaches and slipped her shoes off placing them beside her on the dock. "Took me a bit to find you. I chose the wrong shoes to wear." Sonkai probably never would have found her if Peaches hadn't offhandedly mentioned one day that she liked to sit by the river to be alone. "God my feet are killing me."
Lifting one foot up to rest on her knee she began massaging it, completely oblivious to the fact that she may have interrupted them. She wasn't the type to care let alone spare her actions a second thought. Sonkai continued to rub her feet and silently curse herself that she hadn't been more sensible in her choice of footwear before leaving Irving Hall.

"Been around,"
Peaches stuck her bottom lip out, furrowed her brows, and crossed her arms in front of her chest, turning back to stare out at the horizon. She didn't understand why the man completely dismissed her without even being cordial. She had never had anyone treat her in such a way. Then it hit her, maybe he's not interested in woman. She glanced back at him, and shook her head. No, that can't be it. Doesn't look like that type of man... Maybe he already had someone. That had to be it. Still, it didn't mean he could be rude.
Peaches thoughts were interrupted when she heard someone clearing their throat. She turned and saw Songkai leaning against a crate. She smiled at her friend.
"Medda asked me to see if I could find you. We're going to need extra help tonight and you're the only person she thought would say yes."
"Of course I'll help, darlin'. But, what's going on tonight?" She tried to rack her brains trying to remember if she was told of anything happening that she might have forgotten. Hm.. I don't know. She turned her attention back to Sonkai hearing her comment about her feet. "Darlin', ya shoulda known better. Dip 'um in the water. Might make them feel better." She glanced back at the man, hoping he didn't catch her staring at him while she tried to figure him out.

This new woman's arrival was something of a welcome relief for Bryce who was glad for the girl's attention to be drawn away from him. The new arrival seemed as disinterested in him as he was in her which was fine with him, all things considered, and he stayed where he was unmoving. He kept his gaze out over the water but he heard enough of the conversation to gather that the two were dancers, worked together at one of the dance halls in the city.
The new arrival dipped her feet in the water, complaining that they hurt and judging by the looks of her shoes he could say he was all that surprised. Shifting his weight to his other foot, Bryce noticed the red head glancing back over at him but didn't react. It really wasn't her at the end of the day, Bryce was the way he was, molded and shaped by his past and there wasn't much to be done about it now.

Sonkai sighed and closed her eyes in pleasure as her feet touched the cool water. "I'm not sure what exactly but she's expecting a large crowd. I think it's her new act she's been working on for awhile. Most of those blasted newsboys are gone to. Thank God. I don't think I could take much more of their whining." Sonkai opened her eyes a mocking glare in them as she tilted her head to the side making a face, "Oh dear my shoulder hurts can you get me some water? Can you spoon feed me? Can you change this disgusting yellowed bandage?"
With a sigh Sonkai flipped her hair over her shoulder. She hated nothing more than pretending to be nice to people she couldn't stand. "You'd think they were invalids." Sonkai followed Peaches line of view, "Who's he? Seems a bit moody to me." She didn't bother lowering her voice, not caring if the man heard her.

Peaches chuckled and moved her hair from one shoulder to the other. She and Sonkai were almost total opposites. People who meet them couldn't understand how they could be such good friends, but their opposite temperaments compliment each other, and Peaches was the only one who could see past it. That was why she and Sonkai got along so well.
"Who's he? Seems a bit moody to me."
Peaches turned to look at the man and shrugged, "Dunno, never told me his name..." She smiled and aded, "He must be new around here though. I'd remember seeing a gorgeous man like him around here..." She gave Sonkai a crooked smile. Being her friend, Sonkai knew what she was like with men.
Peaches sighed, "Well, Darlin', we should get goin'. I'm gettin' no where with him..." She started to stand up to gather her things, but her skirt got caught on a nail and she lost her balance and fell off the dock, letting out a yelp before she hit the water. When she resurfaced, she couldn't help but laugh...

They were talking about him, even if he hadn't been able to hear their conversation he would have known, they weren't exactly what he would call subtle. And the new girl wasn't one to keep her voice down, so he knew his moodiness had been duly noted. Bryce was just the sort of man who preferred to be left alone; his sister had once called him quietly stoic and Bryce found it a rather apt description.
A surprised yelp caught his attention and he glanced over just in time to see the red head disappeared over the side of the dock and the subsequent splash a few moments later. Before he had much time to react he heard a giggle and knew she must be fine, just wet, and Bryce's good upbringing kicked in as he walked over and peered over the ledge. Glancing over at her friend, Bryce got down on one knee and held out his hand to the red head, offering to pull her up. "You okay?" He asked.

Sonkai simply lifted an eyebrow and rolled her eyes slightly at her friends words. Peaches was definately the type of woman to go all nuts over some guy she thought looked good. Sonkai lifted her eyes and studied him for a moment thinking he wasn't that good looking.
She had started to stand when Peaches fell in the water causing some of it to splash up on her. Quickly Sonkai raised her hands so it wouldn't hit her face and coudn't help the slight laugh which bubbled up when Peaches popped above the water. Shaking her head a bit she couldn't believe the girls clumsiness. It would take awhile for her to get ready for work now.
When the man reached them and glanced at her Sonkai frowned tightly and finished standing before taking a step away from him. She nearly snorted at his question but managed to refrain herself. "Obviously..." Sonkai muttered under her breath. She doubted Peaches would be giggling the way she was if she had happened to bump her head or anything like that.

Peaches couldn't stop laughing as she reached for the man's hand and he pulled her out of the water. "Other than being completely drenched? I'm fine," she managed to sputter out in between the laughter. "Thank you for your assistance." She gave him a quick peck on the cheek. She turned to Sonkai smiling, "Did I get you, sugar?"
Peaches wrung out her skirt and her hair, then wrapped her arms around her middle trying to keep herself warm. With the breeze coming off the water and being completely soaked, she was getting a bit cold. She looked the man over, and sheepishly smiled through mildly chattering teeth at the him when she noticed wet spots on his shirt and pants, "Sorry about getting you wet, Darlin'."

He got her up on the dock and released her immediately, taking a step back but not before she could stand on tiptoe and pressed a quick kiss on his cheek. At the unexpected and invasive touch he jerked away from her, crossing his arms over his chest. "Do. not. touch. me." He said evenly, trying to keep his voice calm instead of lashing out like he wanted too. He didn't like talking to strangers but he definitely did not like them touching him, especially in overly familiar manners.
He'd come over to help because some of what his parents had brought him up with had stuck, but that didn't mean it was an open invitation for her to drape herself over him. Wet clothing not withstanding he was rather done with the entire situation. "be more careful next time," he said, sending her a final glare before turning and stalking off down the docks, leaving the two women behind.

Sonkai turned her head sharply to send a glare after Bryce's retreating back. "Jackass!" She called after him before turning towards Peaches. Removing her wrap she held it out to her friend. "Put this on. We should get going before you catch your death." Sonkai didn't reference the ignorant gadjo again. She would never understand men and she was glad she had no interest in them.

"Thanks." Peaches took the wrap her friend offered to her and wrapped it around her shoulders as she shot a glare at the man's retreating back. "Well, how rude." She picked her shoes up off the dock, and smiled at Sonkai. "Come on, darlin'. Let's get out of here. I need to go get dried off and all dolled up for tonight." She winked at her friend, "Plenty more where he came from."

((New Day & Reserved. Sorry!))
Avalanche was out walking in the Bronx. Things had quieted down again. There was always that calm period in New York, as the leaves were now off the trees, and the ground was starting to freeze. Winter was definitely upon them. He didn't mind winter so much, it was always a good time of the year for him. He liked the snow, he liked Christmas. He didn't mind winter season so much. Today it smelled like snow. The sky was grey, and so was the ocean that he looked at. He sighed, hands stuffed deeply into the thin layers of his winter coat pockets. He had a newsie hat on his head. Though loved winter, it always made him nostalgic, he always broke out his old hat.
Avalanche had been feeling melancholy, and conflicted recently. Just so much going on, and... he wasn't sure how he wanted to think about all of it. It was a challenge. He liked to come to the shore to think. he didn't want to go to Brooklyn shore either, it seemed the Bronx was a bit more calm, and lesson confrontational... he liked it better here for the moment. And Avalanche is always a man who lives in the moment.

Lexi wrapped her shawl tighter around her shoulders as she walked down the dock. She wasn't paying particular attention to her surroundings, she was still so lost in her own misery. Slowly though she was pulling herself out of it. The day they had buried Perry had been a particularly bad one though. She had woken today to see colder weather and grey skies and had thought of how the day matched her mood. She'd decided to take a walk and try to escape her sadness, at least for a time.
She ignored most of the people she passed by but when her eyes landed on a familiar face she knew she couldn't ignore him. He'd been her closest friend since she'd come to this miserable city so she decided to at least say hello. Walking over in his direction she paused to his side, "Hello Alex." Lexi said the sentence slowly as though speaking was no longer a normal thing for her. Taking a deep breath she pulled the shawl even tighter as she stared out over the water.

He looked beside him at his good friend. "Well hello Lovely Lexi," he said quietly. He put an arm around her shoulders. "You need a thicker coat kiddo," he said pulling her close to keep her warm mostly. Though he didn't know how much she'd care for warmth at this point. He had known about Perry. He'd even been at the funeral, in the back. but he'd seen Dodger and Lexi together, and thought it better to maintain his position in the back.
"Is there anything I can do for ya girly?" he asked, mostly just trying to keep her warm at this point. "You carrying on alright?" he looked at her and rested his head against the side of hers, attempting to give her friendship and warmth the best he could.

Lexi stiffened for a moment when Avalanche put an arm around her shoulders and pulled her close but she relaxed almost immediately. She’d always felt incredibly safe and comfortable whenever she was around him and that feeling hadn’t changed with the death of her brother, she was incredibly grateful for that. Although part of her wanted to deny how much pain she was in it was plainly obvious and Avalanche was one person she knew she could talk to about anything and it would stay between them. “You’re right I do…” She trailed off thinking of how she’d had to go through her brothers things today so that they could free up his bunk. She hadn’t had the heart to get rid of anything and had instead packed all of his belongings away in her trunk, except the teddy bear he had slept with. That she had put by her pillow.
A tear escaped and traveled down her cheek but she wiped it away quickly enough and sniffled. “Keep a girl company?” She lifted her head slightly to look at him for a moment a small, forced smile on her face before she averted her attention again. As he asked her how she was and leaned his head against her own she had to fight to hold back tears. It was nice to know he was there for her and that she could talk to him about anything and know he would never pass judgement on her. He was like Dodger in that aspect.
