He looked at her and put a smile on his face. " Of course, any time," he said chuckling. He gave her a tight hug and held her close for a while. He hugged her tightly and swayed back and forth gently, just being comforting. "Maybe we had better look into getting you some new coat or somethin' hmm?" he teased. He was looking to talk, make her smile, make her laugh. It's how he handled nearly every situation, especially ones where people were sad. You gotta cheer 'em up! According to him you did anyway.
"So kiddo, tell me what you did today?" he said looking for anything that they could talk about that wasn't family, or something close to the heart. He spoke quietly, and in a deep comforting voice. It wasn't something he did just by thinking about it, it was instinct. He was looking to take care of her, so the first thing he wanted to do was make her feel safe.

A short laugh escaped Lexi’s lips, “I certainly need to find one.” She blinked back more tears as a slight sigh escaped her lips. “I didn’t realize the weather was going to turn as quickly as it did. Seems like just the other week I was sitting at the park praying for a cool breeze to come by.” Lexi knew that if she wanted to get past what had happened she was going to have to talk about it with someone, but she wasn’t used to that. She was used to being able to bottle up all the bad things and only express the good things. Now though she supposed she did that mostly for her brothers sake and with him gone she just couldn’t muster the energy to pretend everything was alright.
Lexi bit her lip at his question, “Cleaned…cleaned up his bunk…” She trailed off because she knew he would know what she was talking about. Lexi twirled the frayed edge of her shawl around her fingers as she stared at the ground.

He nodded. He could tell this wasn't going to be the easiest conversation ever. Avalanche was really good at hiding things wrong too. In his mind, he dealt with things when he had the time. But his mission was taking care of others. And here some one was doing what he usually did. It wasn't that he wasn't used to it. Others did it all the time but for some reason he didn't want to bring up a sad topic. But it seemed as though she needed him to. He may just be required to do a little tough love.
"I'm sorry Lexi," he whispered quietly. He didn't know the exact pain she was going through but Alex had a different relationship with his siblings than Lexi had. "I know it can't be easy..." and God knows that she must be thinking life highly unfair. "Tell me what I can do to help you" he said, and he meant it. anything. Now that he cracked the subject open she had to take it from there... he wasn't sure where to go now, which was weird for him. Why was she more confusing than the average girl?

Lexi closed her eyes for a moment trying to push back the grief, just for a little bit. "I think I'd like a drink..." Lexi trailed off, biting gently on her lip. She hadn't had a drink in so long it was almost a foreign notion to her. Right now though it felt as though that was exactly what she needed and maybe a good game of cards. It would help take her mind off of her brother, at least she thought it might.
Drawing the shawl tighter around her body, she glanced up at Avalanche. "Would you mind taking me for one?" She didn't want to go by herself, knowing that if she let herself she wouldn't know when to stop drinking and that had always gotten her into far too much trouble.

He smield softly to her and nodded. "Wouldn't let you go alone... and I wouldn't have it any other way than with me going with you." He put an arm around her shoulders, like any friend would and asked her, "so where would you like to go?" he asked. "We can go over to Manhattan and have a couple of light drinks at Tibby's, or would you rather take a trip down to Brooklyn, and relax at McGinty's. Lady's choice," he reassured her with a bright and charming smile, as always.

"I'm thinking McGinty's..." She'd been wanting to venture to Brooklyn but didn't want to go alone. Somehow she thought it might bring her closer to her brother. He had after all loved sneaking off there to try and catch a glimpse of it's infamous leader. A small, tired smile curved her lips as they began walking, "Thank you for coming with me, I couldn't think of a better person to be with." She'd always felt exceptionally close to Avalanche after everything he'd done for her when she first came to the city, he was truly her closest friend here.

He nodded. "Of course any time. Shall we head then?" he asked as he turned himself towards Brooklyn and started walking. "Really, if you ever need anything you know I'm almost always around, and here, right?" he said, making sure she really did understand that.
"And, while we're at it, do you want to borrow a coat or something? I got a spare or two down in Brooklyn. We can swing by my apartment and get you one. Then, when you get one of your own you can give it back. Sound good?" Though really, if he never got it back he wouldn't mind. But some people got offended if you tried to give them things without saying you expected them back.

Lexi smiled and fell into step beside him, "I know. You've been there for me since I moved here and I appreciate it. I don't know if I could have survived without your help." She looked down at her shoes for a moment before staring straight in front of her. "I'll be alright, Alex. It's not too terribly cold yet. I'll find something, thank you though." It wasn't that she didn't appreciate his offer but she really didn't feel right taking something from someone.

He shrugged. "If ya sure. I mean... it's a spare so...." he shrugged. "Naw, forget it. I'm sure you'll be fine." The last thing he wanted to do was push it on anyone. But it was true, he was sort of a collector of those kinds of things. Old shirts, coats, pants, even shoes, so long as there weren't holes in 'em. He'd either find 'em and buy 'em cheap, or keep 'em when they didn't fit him anymore, or get them from newsies who outgrew 'em. That worked best, because then he could trade them for something else someone else outgrew. Good exchange program.
"So," he said as he cleared his throat, "tell me. Other than what you've been doin 'today. What have you been doin' lately?" He was sure there was something that she'd been doing that... if nothing else would be good for conversation.

((New Day -- Reserved for Kat))
Yes, Lucky had been about the city the last couple days. From her trek to Manhattan to talk to Jack to finally where she wanted to be. She wanted to see River. Times had been chaos and she just wanted to be alone with him. But going to the lodging house had pretty much had her about to clock Dodger. So she had headed to the docks instead. Her entire body was feeling it, the need to be close.
They still had a lot to talk about. From where their relationship was going to-- well, everything. The girl rubbed her arm gently as she walked towards the edge of the dock and snorted. She liked Brooklyn's more. But then again, Brooks was her home. Her stomping grounds and the Bronx was pretty damn far away from where she was. It made her heart hurt a bit. Sneaks had only lived across the bridge and it was like pulling teeth to get to him too.
She shook her head, that wasn't fair to River. Not a damn bit. He wasn't Sneaks, he wasn't going to decide one day he liked a place better and not come back. No, he wasn't going to do that. But in reality, she couldn't chase it away. Because she'd been completely and utterly in love. And he'd left her. It made her stomach heart hurt, and upset her that it effected what she did with River. That in the back of her mind there were all these voices asking her a million what ifs.

River shoved his hands in his coat pockets as he walked along the docks. He was getting some much needed air, the lodging houses felt suffocating lately. It was probably because he spent most of his time there when usually he'd be out and about in different boroughs. It didn't help that he'd been missing Lucky. It seemed just when things began to go his way between them something went wrong and he couldn't see her like he wanted to. He didn't want her to start thinking he was becoming Sneaks. It just so happened that there was too many things to be done that he hadn't been able to get away, at least not long enough to make it over to Brooklyn.
As he glanced down a near abandoned dock a smirk crossed his face, it was like the girl could read his mind. Striding up behind her he wrapped his arms around her waist and hugged her close. "I was starting to worry about you..."
Loosening his grip on her he smiled brightly and tucked a piece of her hair back off her face. It was so nice being this close to her again. It felt like ages since he'd seen her. "How've you been?" He figured she'd been as busy in Brooklyn as he'd been in the Bronx. He'd heard Conlon had once again disappeared and Smalls hadn't been spotted in awhile so he figured Lucky had her hands full.

As always, she was near ready to turn around swinging before she recognized the curve of the arms and the power in them. She sighed, letting her body lean back into his shoulders. There was a strength there that she had to admit she missed. Letting someone else be strong for a moment before she pulled back together and was the tough, hard as nails Brooklynite everyone came to respect.
When he pulled away and touched her face it made her feel just a little bit more, no.. he wasn't like Sneaks. Sneaks always held something over her head when she did wrong. "Busy, Conlon took off, Smalls just got back from Boston and Brooklyn needed me. But, I'm here now.." she'd missed him, it was clear as day in those pretty green eyes of hers. "How' bout you? I nearly knocked Dodger down the stairs when I came to see you and he decided to tease me.."
Never tease Lucky about her men. Ever.

River smiled brightly as she spoke, one of the things that had always attracted him to Lucky was her ability to take charge and keep things in line. He supposed he had a thing for bossy women, but what he really had a thing for was the girl standing in front of him. River laughed when Lucky mentioned that Dodger had been teasing her because he had his share of ribs recently but then again he just ribbed right back. "You should just bring up Lexi, that usually gets Dodger to shut his pie hole."
Flashing Lucky a charming smile, he glanced around before leaning down and brushing a quick kiss across her lips. "So I suppose Brooklyn's been doing just fine, eh?" He figured out of all of the boroughs they'd have the best luck moving on from what happened.

The soft kisses and the ease of them was still something she had to get used too. How it made her insides just soften, it was completely different then the hopeless need for Sneaks. It was somehow different, and almost better. Maybe it was because River actually treated her like a girl. Though she wore skirts and hadn't sold a paper in who knew how long. She was still taking charge of Brooklyn in the darker times when they needed her.
"Heh, Dodger and Lexi. Mommy and Daddy of the Bronx." she shrugged at her own comment. Nothing against Lexi, she actually liked the woman. She had spunk where Dodger's last dame had been someone he'd had to take care of. At least Dodger got to be himself with her. "Yeah well.." she sighed and pressed her cheek against his shoulder. With him she could let him be tough while she could draw it together.
"Such a mess.." she murmured. Everything was, she'd even gone to see Jack and he was in some kind of state. But at least they were here. That was all that mattered.

River laughed at Lucky's words, they were his exact opinion of the two leaders. He'd taken to teasing Dodger incesantly about it but he didn't have the nerve to tease Lexi right now. She still seemed so fragile after everthing he had trouble even talking to her when he did see her. He wrapped his arms tighter around her as she leaned her cheek on his shoulder.
"So it seems..." He wasn't sure what else he could say about the whole thing. Things had become somewhat eerie at the houses since that day. River had no issues with what he'd done because he'd seen two of his friends fall apart because of what those men had done to their family. Part of him still raged about it.
