(sorry guys I went home for a few days XP)
"What Spot does doesn't dictate everything, 'Sides, if Jack doesn't strike, we can band together--solidarity, y'know?"
Dodger nodded in understanding. He always listened to his girls and what they had to say about something. He was the leader, what he said went but also effected the girls and what happened to them. No matter what he did or didn't do had a lot to do with what happened to them in the long run.
He wasn't the kind of leader that didn't take in how the felt into account about everything. "It's not that Fibs, not really, Spot will do what he wants and expect the world to follow. I've got a lot of respect for him, he's got balls and brains and both in the same man are hard to come by, love.. it's what makes a strong leader."
"I'm behind you, Dodger, no matter what you decide. You know that. I'm just... well, you know Flea is so fragile. I wasn't here for the first strike, and I'm afraid it'll only serve to worsen her condition."
"I know Cricket, we've all got someone that needs us that's what has me hesitating so much. With a strike on it puts us all in a kind of bind--"
"You'll do us proud, I'm sure."
Forcing a smile, Cricket nodded her agreement adamantly. Despite her worries, she had confidence in their British leader. He had never yet let them down and she had no doubt that he would pull them through this unpleasant trial. "Yeah, Dodger. You always do."
"Just let us know what the decision is, Dodger."
Dodger felt a kind of relief and a sense of pride with the kind of trust his newsies showed for him. They would do what he had in mind no matter what happened and that-- gave him a sense of worth he didn't think he could ever have before.
Dropping down onto her bunk, she looked over toward the British boy. "We'll back you, whatever that outcome is. Have you talked to any of 'em yet, Prince or Kelly?" Slip faced her leader as she began to lace up her boots, waiting for his reply.
"No, I haven't. I've been waitin to hear from Cowboy, I was going to go and see him when he got back from Brooklyn but going to go and see Prince might be wise. Though I have a feeling she'd be siding with Spot on this one. Striking means that we are making a point of force and that is something Spot likes to do. Show power in numbers---
"But I was raised never to show the same trick twice to a crowded street corner.." That could get you knifed in the back.

Fibs, pulling herself to her feet and brushing dust from her slacks, shrugged her shoulders. "I don't doubt his capabilities as a leader, Dodger, I just think his temper gets the better of him... we gotta' think before we throw ourselves into this."
"No, I haven't. I've been waitin to hear from Cowboy, I was going to go and see him when he got back from Brooklyn but going to go and see Prince might be wise. Fibs cocked a surprised eyebrow. If anything, Fibs fancied Queens might align themselves with Manhattan. Prince and Cowboy had always seemed close, after all. "Trouble in paradise, eh?" Scratching the back of her neck, Fibs grabbed her scuffed shoes and pulled them onto her sore feet once more. Fibs never liked to loiter in one place for too long. She got jittery when confined.
"Well, ladies, I think I'll go get a bite to eat." This was a lie; Fibs hadn't the money for food, but it seemed a good enough excuse to make her exit. Waltzing up to her leader, she smiled encouragingly and gave him a squeeze on the shoulder, "If you need any help, Dodger..." She didn't need to finish the sentiment, her meaning was clear.
Nodding at the rest of her company, Fibs slipped out the door and down the staircase. She needed to be outside.

Slip nodded to Fibs as she made her exit, her hands still occupied with the task of lacing her boots. Job complete, Slip stood.
"I think I'm off too," she jingled the change in her pocket, "I've gotta visit my parents, Mum being ill and all." The brunette deftly tied back her hair, a task long mastered by Slip, and pulled her cap down tightly over her ears.
She nodded to both occupants of the room. "Good Evenin' Dodger, and good luck," Slip turned toward Cricket. "And to you, but you better stay here an' rest." She put her hands on hips, trying and failing rather marvelously to be intimidating. "Want me to get ya something?"

Dodger nodded as she went, running his hands threw his hair as Slip turned to leave too. This was--- at least somewhat comforting. "Just take care of each other for now that's all I can ask... I'll let you girls know what happens after the meeting.."
He headed for the door and nodded at Cricket, "Take care of Flea, Cricket.." Even Dodger had family somewhere-- he just didn't talk about it in public.
With that the Leader made his exit.

*New Day*
Hannalee had just completed her first day of selling. It wasn't terrible, she really didn't know what to think of it. She lowered herself down to her bunk with a relieved sigh. It felt good to sit, even if the mattress was springy. Her last few newspapers laid scattered on the bed, her little money pouch as well.
She laid down her head hanging off the bed so that her short blonde hair was hanging straight. Things sure looked interesting upside down...

*NEW DAY* ((This takes place about a day and a half to two days after the fight.)) Lexi slowly came to awareness, her head pounding as if she’d repeatedly slammed it into a wall. With a groan her hand fluttered to her head as her eyes opened. She could tell she was in her bunk, she knew what the mattress felt like by now. She could tell you where each lump was on it and where every tear was located. Flinching at the brightness of the room, Lexi let her eyes flutter closed again wondering how long she’d been out of it. She tried to remember what had happened but it didn’t come back to her right away and when it did she sat up so fast her world started to spin. Taking a deep breath she glanced around the room to find it empty. What was going on? Where was everyone? Where were her brothers? Had they gotten Perry? Her heart started beating faster and she stood up holding onto the bunk above hers because she was still dizzy. In fact, it seemed to be getting worse with every step she took, but she didn’t care she wanted to hold Perry. Walking towards the entrance to the bunkroom she made it about three feet before she fell to the ground. Swearing under her breath Lexi forced herself to stand and had gotten another two feet when Reid rushed in and scooped her up before depositing her back in her bunk. She looked at him confused, “What happened? How did I get here? Where is Perry? Is everyone alright?” Taking a deep breath Lexi stared into her brothers’ eyes imploringly waiting for him to answer her questions. She couldn’t tell what he was thinking; it was as if he were made of stone and no emotions played on his features or in his eyes. “Well…” She said impatiently. Reid stared at her a moment longer trying to judge whether she was strong enough to hear what he was going to tell her. Finally taking a deep breath he looked away from her. “You were knocked out by one of the guards before we got to the building.” Not that it mattered because even if they had made it to the building they would’ve been to late for Perry. Reid swallowed and closed his eyes for a moment. “I turned back to help you and managed to knock the guard unconscious before some kid came running up to tell me a Brooklyn boy had Perry.” Lexi’s eyes widened and she leaned up, “Where is he? Bring him here, I want to hold him. I want to tell him I love him.” Lexi started to stand again when she got a good look at Reid’s face and she sank to the floor instead. “No…no…NO! Reid tell me my brother is alright, tell me he’s downstairs playing with the others or bothering Dodger. For Gods sake tell me he’s in Brooklyn with Spot Conlon..” Lexi choked on her words and leaned forward wrapping her arms around her legs, sobbing. “This isn’t happening, it’s not real. WHERE IS MY BROTHER?!” Standing Lexi suddenly forgot about her head killing her and the fact the world had yet to stop spinning. “WHERE THE FUCK IS HE REID?” Lexi leaned down and got in Reids face. “Tell me right now or I will wring your goddamn neck.” Reid couldn’t say anything at first as the truth dawned on his sister. He had to blink back tears as she fell to the ground and then just as suddenly stood and was screaming at him. His face fell; he knew she’d hate him. He’d lost Perry and he was going to lose Lexi because of it. Because in the end this truly was his fault. If he had been more responsible or careful his brother never would have been one of the ones to go missing and he would be alive right now. “Lexi..he’s at the church. They’re preparing him for…” He couldn’t say it; he couldn’t say that they were preparing him for his funeral. He still didn’t quite comprehend that his brother was gone. He still expected him to come running up to him asking a million questions. “He’s dead, Lex…” Reid said it quietly afraid of what her reaction was going to be. Sagging against the bunk, Lexi didn’t say a word. How could she? How could she do anything but cry? Her brother was dead. Her little baby brother was lost to her forever. She’d thought she’d lost enough people that she’d been through enough pain that God would cut her some slack. Obviously he had none. He took everything away from her over and over again and never gave her a break. After a few moments Lexi sat back on the bed and leaned against the one brother she had left. She wrapped her arms around him and cried on his shoulder. “Please..please don’t ever leave me Reid. You’re all I have; I couldn’t bare to lose you to.” And that was the honest truth; she would never blame him for what happened because it wasn’t his fault. She just wanted to know that he was there and wasn’t going to be leaving anytime soon. “I’ll always be here Lex..always…” With that he in turn wrapped his arms around her and they sat there for hours, Lexi crying and Reid just rocking her back and forth. Both lost in their own worlds of sadness but mourning their loss together.

*NEW DAY* Lexi sat on the floor at the end of her bunk, gently placing her youngest brother belongings in the small trunk that sat there. She was glad she'd had enough money to get it because she couldn't possibly even contemplate throwing them out. She needed to hold on to them. Slowly she wiped a tear from corner of her eye without even noticing what she was doing. Time had passed and she was slowly healing but she'd never stop missing his smiling face or his laugh. As she held the last item, his tattered teddy bear she ran her fingers along the edge of its face and said a small prayer before setting it on top of everything and closing the trunk. She locked it and placed the key in her pocket before moving to sit on her bunk.

(New Day) Jewel sighed as she followed Lexi into the Bunkroom. She couldn't believe her eyes. It was such a nice place. Definitely better than her old bunkroom in Brooklyn. She put down her luggage, and looked around.
"Wow, Lexi. This place is terrific. I know I'm gonna love it here now." She said.
She walked around the room, and looked at everyone's bunk. She saw a lot of things belonging to the other girls. Some trunks, brushes, and other things. She then turned back to Lexi with a confused look.
"So, how many other girls live here besides you...and now me, of course?" Jewel asked Lexi.
Jewel then put her luggage down by one of the bunks. She then smiled, and said.
"Are there any top bunks free?" She asked.

Lexi shrugged, "I haven't really kept a count but there are quite a few." Lexi glanced around and pointed to the only free top bunk. "Looks like there's one more left."
Lexi knew that quite a few girls had come and gone since Perry had died, but she'd been mourning and hadn't paid much attention. She was going to have to fix that. She'd get to see who all was here when they had the meeting and then she'd meet them individually when she could.

Jewel nodded, as she settled her luggage by the free bed that Lexi had pointed to.
"Well, I can't wait to meet everyone when the time comes for the house meeting." She said with a small smile.
Jewel then climbed up on the top bunk that would now be hers, and she nodded in approval.
"Oh, I can see that this is gonna be pretty comfortable." she said.
Then she turned towards the window, and sighed contentedly "Oh wow, this is why I used to have the top bunk in Brooklyn too...the view is so nice from up here." she said.
Just then, Jewel looked at her new leader, and tilted her head in confusion as she got down from the bed.
"Lexi, I hope I'm not being to forward here... But Is everything ok? You look a bit troubled? Do you wanna talk about it? I always was a good listener when people needed someone to talk ta." she said.

Lexi gave Jewel a sweet smile and plopped down on her own bunk. She had always preferred a bottom bunk to a top bunk, she supposed that had to do with her past. "I'm alright, Jewel, thank you for asking though."
Lexi wasn't prepared to tell someone about her brother. She figured one of the other lodgers would fill Jewel in at some point, but she wasn't so over it that she was okay with talking about it. It would make her break down and she didn't want that. She wanted to just enjoy herself and not fall back into her melancholy.

Jewel stopped herself before asking another question, and found herself with her leader's answer. She patted Lexi on the shoulder.
"Well, if you're sure..." She then trailed off with a sigh.
Just then she thought of something that happened earlier in the park, and she smiled suddenly.
"Oh, remember when you mentioned your friend from Brooklyn? Ya know? That guy Avalanche? I ran into him today at the park. He was sitting in this big Oak tree. We had quite a nice conversation. He had a lot of nice things to say about you. He's quite a handsome man." She told Lexi, as she plopped down on Lexi's bunk next to her.

Lexi nodded and forced a small smile, "I'm sure. Thanks for asking." She didn't want Jewel to think she didn't trust her, but she wasn't ready to talk about what had happened. She wanted to talk to her brother and to Zeke before she even broached the subject of Perry with someone who didn't know anything about what had happened.
"He's a very sweet man," Lexi chuckled a bit when Jewel said Alex had a lot of nice things to say about her. "I should hope so," She said with a smile. Alex had been her first friend upon arriving in New York and he was one of her closest. "And yes, he is very handsome."

Jewel shrugged, she then got up from the bed. "Okay, Lexi, that's fine." She sighed.
Just then, she began to pace the floor back and forth. She looked at the floor as she walked, and then a smile crossed her face once again. She'd been doing that often. She noticed that she'd be happy one time, and completely unhappy the next. That's why she cried when she talked about personal life to anyone. It had happened with Banshee back in Brooklyn, then earlier with Avalanche in the park.
"Yeah...he is quite handsome, Lexi. I didn't know he was such a gentlemen. I talked to him, and he listened to me. He let me tell him things that I only told people that I trusted... Stuff like I told you when we met. But there are so many things I've been struggling with for so long." She said.
Jewel suddenly froze dead in her tracks in the middle of the bedroom floor. She then buried her head in her hands, dropped to her knees, and busted out into tears.

Lexi smiled slightly as she listened to Jewel talk about Avalanche, but her expression rapidly changed to appalled when Jewel collapsed on the ground crying. Lexi sat on her bed for a moment, unsure of what to do with the hysterical girl. She didn't understand how she'd so rapidly gone from happy to balling her eyes out. Part of her wanted to comfort Jewel, but she didn't know what she was supposed to be comforting her from. Sure the girls sister was missing and that was bound to mess someone up, but if she'd been missing for five years then Lexi didn't really understand the outburst.
Slowly she stood from her bunk and went over to envelope Jewel in a hug. Awkwardly, Lexi patted her back to try and sooth her tears. "Shhh...tell me what's wrong." She wasn't sure if the girl was breaking down over her sister or if it was something else. Lexi couldn't help but be a little put off with Jewel's behavior considering she'd been perfectly fine a moment ago and she couldn't think of something that would have triggered this sort of reaction.
"Is it your sister?" She asked quietly, unsure if she really wanted to hear the response. With everything she'd been through over the past several months Lexi wasn't sure she would be able to handle this situation. She desperately wished one of the other girls would come in and save her from having to be this girls shoulder to cry on. It wasn't that she didn't like Jewel or that she wouldn't try to help her if she could. It was that this situation struck to close to home and Perry was still too fresh in her mind to really be able to deal with someone else's pain.
