Pallet knew what was to come as soon as she saw Emma's eyes narrow, and she couldn't help but smirk. She kept her hand gently on Emma's shoulder to restrain her from doing anything to Jewel that could get her in trouble with Lexi. Although she knew Emma quite well and knew how she felt about Jewel, Lexi would be none to happy to know that Pallet had just let the two girls go at each other without doing anything.
Pallet smoothed back Emma's hair in a soothing way before turning her attention to Jewel. "This is not like your home when you were a little kid. We don't get privacy here. If you're gonna live here, you need to understand that. People will be walking in and interrupting your conversations ALL THE TIME," she scolded. "You just learn to deal with it. And as for Emma not liking people, I've known her for a long time and I've never met someone she didn't get along with! Not until you. You talk about people making snap judgments about you, when you're doing the exact same thing!"
Pallet pushed Emma up off her lap and put her arm around the girl's shoulder. "Come on Em." She stood up. "Lemme go put something warmer on and we'll head over to the boy's house. Maybe we can find Reid and get your fiddle back." She lead the younger girl over towards her bunk, and slipped her skirt and shirt on over her night dress and wrapped her shawl around her shoulders. Then, she grabbed another shawl from her pile of clothes and wrapped it around Emma's shoulders, noticing the she came in with nothing warm to block out the cold. "Maybe Dodger will let us stay over there tonight," she whispered to Emma smiling.
