He smiled as he felt her fingers brush against his forehead, liking the tingling feeling that trailed across his skin in their wake. Blinking his eyes open he took in a deep breath, he had almost started to fall asleep he was that relaxed. Coughing a bit to clear his throat he picked a cigarette out of his pocket and light it with a match.
"Da Delancy brothers," He said with a light laugh. "Still haven't had the honor of meeting them. " Drifter overly emphasized the word honor, meaning that it wouldn't be an honor at all he would probably punch them or say something stupid.
He looked up at her with a smile when she said that he looked handsome, a small blush showed on his cheeks, he had forgotten that she was able to make him blush. "Thank ya kindly Piper," He said pushing a lock of her hair behind her ear and placing his cigarette between his lips taking a drag.

Piper smirked when he emphasized the word honor and held in a giggle. THose brothers were nothing but trouble tot he newsies, especially to the girls. She hated to be mixed up with that kind of guy in her life, it would mean someone was going to get hurt.
But a guy like Drifter, who was the type of guy to look after her and not lead her astray, now that was her kind of man. She saw him blush form her remark and she smiled even bigger.
"You match my hair now." Piper replied, leaning in a bit so that they were close only to move one more piece of hair and then smiled, seeing if he was going to blush some more from how close they are to each other.

He laughed a bit and took a drag from his cigarette letting the smoked out in little rings. Looking up at her he smiled a big smile at her and his blush deepened as he noticed that she had leaned forward. "I bet I do match ya hair."
He liked Piper a lot, he would make sure that whenever he was around her nothing would happen to her.
It was like a game, he always tried to make her blush and then she would usually make him blush right after he had done it to her. Pushing his hat higher on her head he brushed his fingers against the skin of her forehead unconsciously. "Wanna go fer a walk?" He was in a walking mood.

His fingers glided over her skin on her forehead, making him loose a breath for a brisk second. It was odd, no guy before Drifter would have that kind of effect on her when it came to a light touch of the skin or hug. She liked the brisk touch he gave her, it made her feel safe and comforting.
"Sure!" She replied in a grin, thinking about the walk and she got up from her spot, moving away from Drifter slightly and looking back at him, holing out her hand for him to take. She loved going on walks, and also being around Drifter. So the two melted together in one scenario was really exciting PIper.

<<<NEW DAY>>>
Dutchy sat on the steps as the night grew darker. He had a pencil behind his ear and a newspaper in front of him reading. The front page margin was riddled with tally marks. Dutchy had taken to selling off early at night and perching on the front steps like the lions that would sit guarding the NYC library in another decade, counting the heads of each newsie that came in. It proved to be a few hard nights at first, but most had the consideration to get home before midnight once they figured out Dutchy was staying out late for them. Most got home much earlier than that.

Tobias walked the dark streets of Manhattan. Tonight he was wearing black pants and a button-up shirt open save for one button in the middle, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. On his face, stubble was beginning to grow back and he had a cut under his left eye that was beginning to heal.
Lately, he had been having trouble sleeping so he had taken to walking the streets of all the boroughs at night, trying to "patrol" to help out the leaders where he could. If he saw any newsies wandering at night, he'd reprimand them for being out at night alone (being a boxer and bartender, he knew how to be quite intimidating) and then escort them home, paying close attention to the young kids and the girls.
Tonight was no different. Luckily, Toby hadn't found any kids out in Manhattan, so before he headed to another borough, he made sure to stop at the Lodging house and double check that everyone made it back okay.
Toby was a block away from the Lodging house when he noticed a figure sitting on the front steps. As he got closer, he was able to make out who it was. "Heya, Dutchy. How's it going?"

Dutchy looked up from his paper and seeing Toby, gave him a wave and a nod, "Heya, Toby. So far we're only still missing the kids we know of..." He shrugged, dejectly folding up his paper. "Thanks for helpin' round up the strays. Anybody heard anything yet?"

Toby stuck both his hands in his pockets and shrugged, " Not that I'm aware of. Any news that you've come across, lately?"
Toby glanced around the street, watching and listening for anything unusual. Ever since he ran away from the orphanage as a boy, it had become a habit of his to pay attention to his surroundings at night. He had been in too many lost fights as a kid to be caught unawares on a dark street, again.

"Nah," Dutchy sighed, shaking his head defeated. He looked up to Toby again, stretching his legs out on the step, leaning back some, "Know any of the missing? Well, I mean?" He asked carefully.

Know any of the missing?
Toby raised his arms above his head to stretch and yawned, before taking a seat next to Dutchy on the steps. He stretched one leg out in front of him and leaned back on his arms, "Nope, I don't think so. Don't really tend to socialize much with the little ones to get to know many of 'um. Plus, they're usually scared of me," Toby chuckled to himself. "Don't usually give off that friendly vibe much, 'specially ta little kids." He stared out into the dark street, in thought. It could be possible that he knew one or two of the girls, though, in passing, but he wasn't really aware of who all went missing.

Dutchy chuckled a little, but not completely insensitive of their situation. No, not Dutchy. He shrugged, "There's only a few of the younger kids gone. Mostly girls. Our age or younger. One I was good friends with." He caught himself, "Am good friends with. The other girls, some I know, you know, in passing or met once or twice."

"Am good friends with. The other girls, some I know, you know, in passing or met once or twice."
Toby looked at Dutchy and noticed his face grow sad for a minute, when he talked about his friend. In response, he made a noise that sounded like a grunt, "Sorry 'bout your friend, Dutch. When we find out where they went to -- if someone is responsible for the disappearances-- they're gonna be sorry. I promise you that." Out of frustration, he clenched his fist.
Toby stared out into the street and scowled. He knew what it was like to have someone you cared for, go missing. For years since she left the orphanage, he had been looking for his older sister --never giving up on trying to find her. She was the only family he had left, besides the newsies.

"Yeah," Dutchy nodded, but looked to Toby, shrugging, "Just seems like... you know, a long time. The police have been looking, though... I even talked to one of them. A younger guy, but... He promised to help us." Dutchy knew how it sounded and was a little doubtful himself. No newsie trusted the bulls. The guy seemed nice enough. Still, Toby was pretty much the only person he'd told about going to the police.

At Dutchy's comment about having gone to the police, Toby looked at him a bit surprised. "The bulls?! I wouldn't be surprised if they had something to do with the disappearances. They'd probably do anything they can to get all those 'street rats' of the streets..." Toby fumed. Then realizing he needed to be a bit more sensitive, (which was not one of his strong suits), towards his friend Dutchy, he added, "Sorry Dutch... Did the guy know anythin'?"
Toby sat up, bringing the leg he had stretched out, up onto a step and stretching the opposite leg out in front of him.

Dutchy cringed slightly, hating to think if the cops were stealing kids away. They'd already checked The Refuge and no one was turning up there. Dutchy shook his head, "No, this was the first he'd heard about it... He seemed okay, you know, for a cop. He was pretty young. But he knew Tate Potter I think, she was taken too." He gave a helpless shrug. "I thought getting the word out would do some good, maybe."
