Dutchy gave a sympathetic frown, but was careful not to look like he was pitying the boy. He wasn't and the last thing he wanted was Don't Ask angry with him.
"You could have just said something. Jeez, you scared me, you know?" Dutchy slipped back into English, now grateful it hadn't been his fault Don't Ask had bolted out so suddenly. "I'm sorry, I didn't think Jack meant everyone everyone... Are you okay now? ...You need, some water or something?"

((You're just posting in English because you don't feel like double-checking your translations! I'm on to your tricks!))"Sorry," Don't Ask panted again, straightening up now but keeping his eyes on the ground, not looking at Dutchy. "I don't really have time to say something. I'm okay one minute, and then I feel like people are closing in on me, and all of a sudden I'm not okay anymore." God, this was embarrassing. Don't Ask's unscheduled panic had reached a crescendo when Dutchy put his hand on Don't Ask's chest and discovered his chest binder, but he'd already been working his way into a good frenzy just from being there. Groups made him so uncomfortable and nervous, increasing the odds that someone would get close enough to see through his disguise. Hell, that was part of the reason why he kept Horseshoe around--walking down the street, people would usually give him and scruffy, flea-bitten ol' Horseshoe a wide berth. Oh, speaking of Horseshoe, Don't Ask looked up and stuck his fingers in his mouth, letting out a shrill whistle. Across the street, Horseshoe looked up from where he'd been napping alongside the Lodging House steps, then jumped to his feet and bounded across the street, coming to Don't Ask's side and thumping his tail against Dutchy's leg happily. "Are you okay now? ...You need, some water or something?""I'm okay," he assured Dutchy, forcing himself to calm down and breathe normally now. He stroked Horseshoe's ears to help. "I just... I'd really like to get someplace quiet." He finally looked up from the ground to meet Dutchy's eyes. "Quickly."

"Quite?" Dutchy was at a total loss, and leaned against the wall of the building they were infront of. Somewhere quiet in New York? And near. He bit his lip a moment, looking around before his eyes fell on the Lodging House again. "C'mon, we can go up on the roof. We'll have to go back inside though if you want Horseshoe to come." Then before Don't Ask could panic again, "But we can take the back door and sneak upstairs."

"C'mon, we can go up on the roof. We'll have to go back inside though if you want Horseshoe to come. But we can take the back door and sneak upstairs."
Don't Ask considered for only a moment before nodding. "Yeah," he said, straightening up from the wall. "Yeah, that sounds good." He followed Dutchy back in the direction of the lodging house, clicking his tongue to beckon Horseshoe as they went.

"You could've told me before, you know..." Dutchy said, his hands shoved in his pockets as he led Don't Ask around the back wayof the lodging house. The back alley where the entrance was might have been a bit quiet, but if Don't Ask needed space, the roof was a much better choice.
Dutchy realized he might have sounded a bit like a nag and added quickly, "You could tell me anything, Don't Ask. I wouldn't gripe ya for it."

"You could tell me anything, Don't Ask. I wouldn't gripe ya for it."
Don't Ask felt a tight constriction in his chest at Dutchy's words. Of all the people in New York Don't Ask could've run into and somehow befriended, he just had to pick the kindest boy on the island, didn't he? He wanted very badly to take Dutchy's words for what they were, but knew that would be suicide. He was feeling an intense burden that he hadn't counted on when he underwent his gender transformation, and was desperate to get that monkey off his back--but he wasn't insane.
"Ik mag je graag een partij, Peter, maar er zijn enkele dingen Ik kan niet eens vertellen," he murmured quietly.
(Today's Dutch lesson: "I like you a lot, Peter, but there are some things I can't even tell you.")

Dutchy didn't respond with anything other than a brief understanding nod as they made their way sneaking past the others still loitering around the front desk and up to the roof, thankfully without incident. He thought over Don't Ask's words. At least he hadn't just plainly brushed him off. Dutchy glanced back to the other boy, wondering what could have been so very awful that he couldn't be confided in. And using his real name. Dutchy couldn't remember if even Jack knew his real name. He wasn't entirely sure if any of the other boys did. They probably did, some of them. But Don't Ask was the only other boy of his age he had ever introduced himself with his given name. Maybe it was because Don't Ask had been so friendly to him, not to mention Dutch as well... Maybe it was something else. Dutchy didn't know. He opened the door to the roof, giving it a good push and holding it open for Don't Ask and Horseshoe, since it was rather heavy and Dutchy took pride in whatever manners he had.

*NEW DAY* Medda knocked anxiously on the front door, hoping someone was here. She wanted to wait at the house for the kids to come back. Although she didn't agree with what they were doing they were at a point where nothing else seemed to be working. She sighed as she waited for someone to answer the door. She wanted to see who was left behind and speak with them briefly before she went to find Walter House and inform him of what was happening and ask him to come back with her. She knew that they were going to need someone with his expertise to be here when they returned and she also knew he would want to be there when Shiner came back. Please God let them all come back and let them not be harmed. She couldn't even think about someone being hurt right now she was worked up enough as it was.

*NEW DAY*
Poet clung to him with one hand the other held their food. She leaned against him and sighed looking down,"I....I'm not sure it'd be appropriate fer you to come inside wit meh...."she mummbled. She wasn't sure if Jack would appreciate her being carried up to the girls bunks by Toby and even more so if he were to stay with her. She looked up into his eyes and then back down quickly as her stomach churned,"Put me down....put me down..."she murmured frantically she knew she was going to hurl any moment and she really didn't want it to be on him or herself, but before she could stop it, she leaned over luckily and hurled, just missing Toby's shoes.

"Put me down....put me down..."
Toby quickly put her down, hearing the urgency in her voice. He stepped out of the way just in time for Poet to miss relieving her stomach onto his shoes. As she was bent over, he pushed her hair out of her face and rubbed circles on her back trying to soothe her. Then, he set the bag of food onto the steps and turned back towards Poet. He helped her sit down on the steps and crouched down in front of her. "Maybe you should head on up to bed... It might make you feel better. You can hang onto the food and eat it when you feel up to it..." He held her hands in his own.

Poet looked into his eyes and she tilted her head, she didn't want him to leave, she wanted him to stay. She shook her head,"No...please...."she pleaded clenching his hand with hers."Don't leave me hereh.....I'll be lonely..."she whispered. Even when surrounded by other kids she still felt lonely because she never communicated with them as much as she probably should. She looked down as her hair fell into her face,"Just....please..."she murmured again, she just didn't want to be left alone.(sorry so short)

Toby rubbed circles on her back and kissed the top of her head. "You need rest, Poet... If you get some sleep you might feel better in the morning and I've got some errands to finish up tonight for McGinty. I'll come visit you tomorrow morning before I head to work. Okay?" He also had a lot running through his head that he had to sort out; all these feelings rushing through him. He saw a wariness in her eyes about being alone, but no way would Jack let him stay. He wrapped an arm around her shoulder, "How about I stay until you fall asleep...?"

((New Day)) Brook Lynne was still fuming when she reached the Manhattan lodging house, the amazing thing about a cajun temper. She could never stay mad at Blink or at Snoddy for very long but when her honor was called into question by a girl from Queens no less all she could do was go and seek out Blink to give him her say. It wasn't like they were together and she'd basically given up on the idea of that every really being the case but he was her closest friend and she still carried that torch even if it was one sided. If some girl from Queens could misunderstand her so badly then how many other people thought she was a strumpet? Frowning she slammed towards the lodging house and grumbled, sending her tanned hands threw her dark hair, tossing it off her shoulders and frowning. How DARE that girl, who did she think she was making those kinds of accusations? Maybe it was her fault a little, but she couldn't help who she was. And temper and fire had carried her around most of Manhattan seeking out Blink. Luckily she'd ran into Bumlets who'd pointed her towards the lodging house. They were all laid up and she'd been giving Blink his space since he was injured and had a feeling he didn't want her hovering around him. She knew he would be alright, no body went threw life with that kind of je ne sais quoi and not manage to come out at least somewhat alright. She was angry and more over she was offended and hurt, did people really see her that way? On a sigh she strode outside the lodging house and folded her arms leaning her hip against the banister. There was nothing she could do to change other people's opinions but she could go to the people that mattered to her at least. But where was he? Bumlets had said he was at the lodging house and she'd looked all over, she needed a new strategy.

Blink staggered wearily down the stairs to the ground level of the lodging house. His arm was throbbing dully, and his belly ached from not having taken a shit in three days. The former was because he'd been a little less free an' easy with his morphine lozenges lately--he'd handed out so many among his friends that he was starting to run low now, and he wasn't sure when he'd next run into the doctor to weasel another tin out of him--but he hadn't a clue what was up with his bowels. He wished like hell it would pass soon, though, he was tired of the feeling of nausea that plagued him because of it. "Hey, Blink," one of the other newsies called out, waving him over. "That Cajun girl was lookin' for ya. She's still waiting outside, I think." "Mm, thanks," Blink muttered, rolling his eyes as he turned away. That Cajun girl... She had a name, you know. It's not like everybody and his god damned brother didn't know it these days, what with all the crazy rumors flying about what had gone down between her and Snoddy. Blink himself only had half the story, and even that much couldn't be verified. He'd been waiting for Brook to show up, and if she thought it was any of Blink's concern, she'd fill him in on the factual details. But she'd been avoiding Snoddy, and in doing so, also avoiding Blink. Pushing open the Lodging House door, he found Brook leaning against the railing of the steps, arms crossed and jaw set. Brook wasn't often one for getting her knickers in a twist, Blink knew, but when she did, oh boy... And she looked damn pissed now. Fantastic, Blink sighed to himself, trotting down the steps to approach her. Just what I needed, an assload of Cajun Rage.Fully expecting Brook's anger to be focused on him, Blink steeled himself and slid up beside her, leaning against the railing with her. "You were lookin' for me?" ((Sorry for the graphicness, but it's all for the sake of accuracy. Constipation is a side effect of dosing morphine. Basically it causes your intestines to slow the natural forward-pushing motion it makes to move your digestion along, and also increases the amount of fluid your intestinal wall absorbs. Clearly, Blink is not aware of this.
That, and I had to come up with an excuse as to why Brook searched the lodging house but didn't find him. He was in the john. ))

She turned around and looked ready to lit into him, her jaw was set but she reached over and took his face in her hands, "You look like a hell, mon choux.." but there was still a tightness in her voice. All those damn rumors had her sick to her stomach with anger. Her jaw set and she let her hands drop, she didn't think he needed her to be honest and figured he wanted time to mend on his own. "We need to talk..." she wanted to tell him so he didn't think, hell even Snoddy didn't know her real reasoning and that upset her the most. "I about gave a girl a black eye an hour ago.."
