Perry nodded when she spoke and looked at her attentively. Everything that Sloane said seemed so intelligent to him he couldn't believe she wasn't that much older than he was. "Can you tell me other things? Like about the beehives? I mean no ones ever told me about that before and I think it's something i outta know, right?" He stared at her quizzically, he loved learning about new things and she seemed like someone who could teach him about them. He honestly couldn't believe she was twelve years old.

"Can you tell me other things? Like about the beehives? I mean no ones ever told me about that before and I think it's something i outta know, right?"
Sloane appreciated that Perry wanted to learn so much. Eloise would fidget too much and could never sit still long enough to be taught anything. She nodded, she had plenty of time and she was more than happy to tell.
"Well sure! Well bees are almost like people in a way, though they can't talk. They even have a class system in their beehives! There's the Queen bee who controls the hive. Then theirs the worker bees who make the honey, and the bees who fly out to go collect pollen from flowers. Pollen is the powdery stuff in flowers that makes you sneeze. Well and Bees send signals to eachother about which flowers don't have any pollen left. They dance around in a certain way."
Sloane laughed, bees certainly could be painful, but safe enough to learn about through books.

Perry smiled and stared at Sloane as she talked. Bees actually did sound pretty interesting and he couldn't wait to tell Reid. He bet he didn't know this much about bees. "Wow...I didn't know bees did all that. How do you know so much? Do you go to school? Where do you live? Do you live with your family?" Although Lexi tried over and over to instill in Perry that not all questions were appropriate he never seemed to catch on.

"Wow...I didn't know bees did all that. How do you know so much? Do you go to school? Where do you live? Do you live with your family?"
Sloane grinned at all the questions, and tried to answer them all as best she could. "I don't know that much really, there's so much more that I don't know, nobody on Earth knows everything. But yes, I go to school, in the fall at least. The rest of the year I work at the mill in Queens. I read a lot, and try to remember any interesting tidbits I find. I live in Brooklyn in an apartment, yes with my family." She took a deep breath when she finished and smiled widely at Perry.

*NEW DAY* Sonkai sighed as she sank against the railing of the gazebo, enjoying the slight breeze against her face. She'd been cooped up at Irving Hall for far too long and she was taking a much needed break today. She'd wandered pretty far from Manhattan but she was enjoying herself, just walking around the overcrowded city. Although she didn't realize that she probably wasn't in the best part of the city. Then again even if she had realized she probably wouldn't care. Carefully she tucked a piece of hair back into the chignon at the base of her neck and closed her eyes for a brief moment. She was sick and tired of annoying newsies asking her for a drink or to change their disgusting bandages. She was nobodies nursemaid and she wasn't going to become one now.

Sarah had taken to walks in the afternoon some days, just to get out of the stuffy back rooms of Caprice Hall and though her apartment was nice enough, there was still a large part of Sarah that missed the wide open spaces of the West. Today she had managed to wander into Brooklyn and Prospect Park, an area of the city that Naomi had warned her about at night, but seeing as it was the middle of the day, she wasn't too concerned.
Spotting a gazebo up ahead she worked her way in that direction, stepping inside and settling on one of the benches, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it before she even noticed there was someone else inside. A pretty enough girl, hair tucked back from her exotic looking face and eyes closed in what looked to be peaceful respite. Sarah gave her a cursory glance and then looked away, blowing out a stream of smoke and watching it billow out towards the water.

The minute the smell of smoke hit Sonkai's nose it wrinkled up in disgust and her eyes shot open. She couldn't stand how so many New Yorkers smoked because she found it to be a disgusting habit. When she opened her eyes and glanced around to see the culprit she noticed Sarah. The girl looked familiar but she simply couldn't figure out her name. Then again names were something Sonkai had never been very good with.
Stepping to the left so she would be out of reach of the smoke she fanned her face for a moment, looking the woman over. That's when it hit her, she was Caprice's new headliner and a grudging respect filled her. She had seen her perform once and the woman had a wonderful singing voice. Of course she wasn't planning on telling her that. "Nice day out, isn't it?" For once Sonkai was being mildly pleasant but it was bound to be shortlived.

Sarah sensed movement out of the corner of her eye and turned her head to see the girl moving now, making a face at the smoke from her cigarette. Cigarettes were one of Sarah's vices, whiskey was the other and she'd never made apologies for them and didn't intend to start doing so now. The girl moved a little more into the light and Sarah recognized her, but couldn't quite place her which was frustrating. She hadn't been in the city long enough to know a great many people, especially women like this one.
"Nice enough," Sarah agreed, still watching the girl with her green eyes, certain that she'd seen those exotic features some place before and she ran through her mind the short list of places she managed to explore in the month since she arrived out from out West. "Imagine it will start getting cold soon," Sarah noted, tilting her head slightly when it hit her...it was one of Medda's girls.

Sonkai nodded her head ever so slightly, "Yes I suppose it is. I never enjoy winter in this dreadful city." She honestly hated it because when she'd been with the Rom they moved constantly to avoid the cold weather. It wasn't something they could thrive in. Sonkai glanced around, taking in her surroundings as well as the other people who walked through the park. It was one of her habits it was the way she saw trouble coming before trouble saw her.

Sarah arched her eyebrow at the dreadful city comment, other than the inherent boredom of being cooped up in a city she didn't know, Sarah found plenty about New York to be exciting...not to mention the people, especially the men. "Can't be any worse than the winters out West," Sarah shrugged, other than the cold she didn't mind it much and if anything she knew the weather would draw the customers inside.
Noticing the woman looking around, Sarah took another drag from her cigarette and looked around, trying to follow the woman's gaze. "Expecting someone?"

Sonkai glanced back at Sarah at her question, "No." And she left it at that, not feeling the need to explain that she liked to be completely aware of her surroundings at all times. It was something her mother had tried to teach her and her ignorance of that was the reason she was stuck here with no family.
It took Sonkai a moment to realize that she'd mentioned she'd been out West. A wistful look came to her eyes at that. She'd heard that when you got to certain places there it was just open land as far as the eye could see. She longed for that freedom once more in her life. "Where out west were you?"

Clearly the girl wasn't the sharing type, not that Sarah minded, she didn't much care one way or the other whether the girl was expecting someone or not. "New Mexico for awhile, California for a time," Sarah shrugged her shoulders and tossed her cigarette aside before settling her hands in her lap. "Grew up out there actually, you ever been?" She asked, considering the wistful look in the girl's eyes, it was a possibility.
"I'm Sarah, by the way," She said, feeling it silly to maintain a conversation with someone and not know her name. "You're one of Medda's girls, I recognize you, I'm sorry...I don't know your name."

"No, never been there, just heard it was beautiful." Anywhere with that much open land had to be beautiful in her mind. She would prefer to be back home with the rest of the Rom but if she couldn't she'd settle for the West.
"Sonkai, I actually have a bit of trouble with names myself. You work at Caprice, correct?" She knew that she did because she never forgot a face but she figured it was polite to ask.

"It is beautiful," Sarah said with a smile, remembering the land and the scenery, one of few things she did desperately miss about her life out West. "Depending on where you are, rolling hills and grass as far as the eye can see - there is some desert and it can be hot as hell but it's a beautiful part of the country." Sarah was proud of being from the West, enjoyed talking about it with the patrons of Caprice when the topic came up.
"I do," Sarah nodded her head and smiled at Sonkai. "Sonkai...that's an unique name, what's it's origin?"

Sonkai studied her for a moment before answering, "It's Rom..." She continued to study Sarah, waiting for a look of disgust to cross her face. Although she didn't much care if the girl had a less than favorable opinion of Romanians she did have a retort waiting on the tip of her tongue in case the situation arose.
So many people Sonkai had met would look at her as though she were no better than the dirt on their shoes and she had a biting tongue because of it. She was used to having to stick up for herself and defend her heritage and her people that it was second nature.
