Sarah arched her eyebrow at this bit of information but said nothing. She was hardly one to judge; she hadn't always been a singer, she wasn't embarrassed by the fact, she'd done what she had to, to get by. She'd spent a portion of her life not being celebrated and even now there were those who disapproved of the dancing halls and their "debauchery", which always caused Sarah to snort in disbelief...she'd show them debauchery.
Sarah reached for another cigarette, considered her supply and though she knew the likely answer held them out to Sonkai anyhow. "Would you like one?"

Sonkai's nose crinkled in distaste, "No thank you..." She was slightly pleased that Sarah had barely showed any reaction to learning she was a Rom. People always showed some form of disgust even if they didn't announce it.
"You know my grandmother smoked, they ruined her voice." She wasn't snide about her comment, more matter of fact than anything. That was one of the reasons she'd never even tried it, well that and the smell of them.

"I wish I could say I would stop," Sarah said with a sort of wry smile as she pulled one out and lit it, making sure to blow the smoke away from Sonkai. "But i find these little devils to be a certain vice of mine." She couldn't remember where she had picked up the habit, she'd spent nearly her entire life around people who smoked and had hardly thought anything of it. Now there was something about the routine that was familiar and calming for her and in her mind, there was no reason to stop. "We all have our vices, right?"

Sonkai gave her a nod, "I'm told mine is cutting people to the quik ((?quick?))." She gave Sarah a wry smile and tucked a strand of hair back. "Well that a good bottle of brandy." She had never drank before coming to Medda's but she found that she could only take so many fingers pinching her rear before she flipped out on someone. That's when she'd started drinking and she found she quite enjoyed it.

"A sharp tongue can be a good weapon in our chosen profession," Sarah acknowledged, taking another drag before blowing out the smoke and smiling over at Sonkai. Her smile widened at the mention of brandy, it seemed that perhaps her and Sonkai had a bit more in common than one might think. "Give me a decent glass of whiskey and I'm yours for the evening," Sarah added, musing thoughtfully that Naomi kept a mighty decent stock of whiskey on hand at Caprice and had a feeling her friend had done that purposefully.

"Too true. Unless you like being fondled as you walk to get a drink after you perform." Some of the girls who worked at Medda's would tell her that she brought it on herself because of her dancing but Sonkai could see the jealousy behind their eyes. She was one of Medda's main girls and men loved to watch her dance. Although most of the regulars knew better now then to try to touch her they still appreciated that she could move her hips so well. There were always new customers though who insisted that they must physically convince her to go home with them that night.
A small smirk played at her lips when Sarah mentioned whiskey, "I do enjoy a good glass of it every now and then but brandy has always been my drink." She could also fall in love with a bottle of wine but it was far to expensive here. Back home they had brewed their own.

"Depends on the gent doing the fondling," Sarah said with a sly smile as she flicked some ashes off of her cigarette, and glanced out over the water. She'd built her career on being a flirt, a skill that had served her well over the years and she knew just how to get what she wanted from most men without letting it get to far. Besides, a man with lust in his eye, likely had money is his pocket for at least a drink or two and Sarah figured money to the bar was money in the bank for Caprice, Naomi and herself.
"Grew up on whiskey," Sarah said with a slight shrug of her shoulders, it seemed to be everywhere out West and she'd developed a taste for it young. Even now drinking it took her back to the wide open planes and arid deserts of her early childhood.

Sonkai rolled her eyes at Sarah's comment, it was a habit she couldn't hold back even though she had happened to like the woman quite a lot. She seemed more worldly than any of the othe girls Medda hired and she wasn't a sweet as butter kind of personality. Quite frankly, it was refreshing but Sonkai still couldn't comprehend what women saw in the men in this city. She thought they were all crude drunken idiots. Then again if she hadn't gone through what she'd gone through to get to America she might not find them so hideous.
Although she told no one when she was a girl before she'd been kidnapped, she'd wanted to go to America so badly. She'd heard many stories in the cities her clan had traveled to about the how wonderful America could be. "Ah, my family made wine but it doesn't quite taste the same here. And it's far to expensive here. I do have a taste for whiskey but given the choice I will always go with brandy."

Sarah laughed when she caught Sonkai rolling her eyes, finishing off the last of her cigarette and stubbing it out as she gazed over at the other woman. "Is it men in general you have an issue with or the ones that come into Irving in particular?" Sarah liked men, she made no bones about that fact, but she knew some girls had a problem with the grabby nature some of them seemed to fall into, particularly when drunk. "I haven't been here long but I've found the men to be mostly, very welcoming." She smiled and winked at Sonkai.

Sonkai forced herself not to roll her eyes again. "Not -all- men, most men. Especially in this blasted country. As soon as I have the money I'm going home to my family. Men just don't interest me enough to care." She shrugged, knowing that it wasn't exactly the truth. She liked men, but found that since being kidnapped that she had lost her taste for them. Maybe once she was able to let that go she would go back to loving them but certainly not anytime soon.

"Now that's a shame," Jensen Flynn drawled, ambling up along the outside of the gazebo, quickly scaling the white woodwork to perch catlike upon the rail a few feet away from the girls, legs splayed and feet braced against the trellis to keep his balance. In his line of work, strolling alone through the park without a care in the world wasn't exactly the safest pastime, but Jensen hated being holed up for long periods of time in occasionally-dank, often-tense rooms with his cohorts--many of whom seemed to have a personal vendetta against soap and water.
Instead, Jensen would escape to the park when he felt the urge, but rather than wander the marked paths and open areas, he skulked around the edges, taking repose in the silence he could found "off the beaten path," as it were. He'd been strolling the area between the trees and the lake, coming up to the gazebo, when he overheard the tail-end of the girls' conversation. Never one to refuse a chance for conversation with a gorgeous woman--especially since conversation so often led to other, better activities--he jumped into the middle of theirs.
"You'd really do that?" he asked the girl who'd spoken, with the dark hair and exotic features. "Just run off and deny the city the pleasure of enjoying your beauty? Mm." He shook his head sadly, his frown deep. "National tragedy, that'd be." Flipping his gaze, he recognized the other girl quickly. They'd never met formally, but he'd seen her performances several times. "Hope you ain't plannin' on followin' her out, Miss Williams. Don't think this city'd ever recover if we lost both of ya!"

Sarah had a reply to Sonkai on the tip of her tongue, certain that there was more to her story then she shared thus far. She was primed to ask when the man had interrupted, seemingly appearing out of nowhere over the side of the gazebo and now lounging as though he owned it. She turned her attention to him, raising an eyebrow and not hiding her open appraisal of the handsome man, deciding the interruptions of this sort really needed to happen more often.
She cast a look in Sonkai's direction, no doubt that the other girl wasn't pleased by the man's presence, wondering for a moment what her new friend's response would be before turning to face him when he addressed her by name, a feline smile spreading across her face. "Can't say it's in my plans at the moment as I barely just arrived," She replied, leaning back against the edge of the gazebo, light in her green eyes. "But should I get the urge, I'll be sure that you are advised Mr.....?"

"Oh, right I'm sure that's exactly what it would be..." Sonkai turned dismissing him completely and gazed out across the park. She could already tell he was the sort of man who thought entirely to much of himself. How annoying men like him were. Even more so than the grabby ones, but only nearly so.
Sonkai shook her head and smirked at Sarah's open appraisal of the man. She found the girl incredibly interesting because she seemed to take what she wanted from men and then ditch them. It was interesting because most girls in this city all wanted to fall in love and get married. Sonkai found it a relief to find someone who didn't seem to be of the same opinion especially one that enjoyed drinking. It was a pleasant change from the women she was used to at Medda's.

"Sure would be," Jensen said, nodding to the dismissive girl, ignoring her obvious distaste. "You go, an' people'll surely notice. Ain't too many places 'round here you can go to watch a Rom prance about." He gave her a charming grin before turning his gaze to Miss Williams again.
"Flynn, darlin'," he filled in, reaching for her hand and kissing the top of her knuckles in a gentlemanly fashion. "Jensen Flynn. Gotta say, I hope your plans don't change. Sarah Williams leaves Caprice, and I got no more reason to come around."
...Well, there was always Naomi Talbot. But it didn't really do to talk up one girl while in the process of talking up two others, did it?

Sarah smirked a little at Sonkai's response, amused at how different their approaches were when it came to men. But Sarah always had enjoyed a handsome man and Jensen Flynn had the sort of rakish smile and confident air that Sarah could appreciate. "Jensen Flynn," She repeated, saying his name slowly before allowing a little smile to tug at her lips as he kissed her knuckles.
"Pleasure..." She said, fixing him with her green eyes she leaned a little closer to him and smiled again, this one a little bit more saucy. "Now don't lie to me Mr. Flynn, you'd just find a suitable replacement and I'd be merely a forgotten speck your eye." She winked at him as she pulled her fingers from his grasp and pulled out another cigarette. "So I guess I'll just have to make sure my plans are somewhat...concrete for the time being."
