"I'm not the only one love." Z smiled sweetly at him. It was nice how he stumbled and rambled at times. "Just probably the most 'passionate' at the moment." she joked "And as of now i'm ring leader of the Bronx Chapter." she smiled genuinely at herself and shook her head. "But if you are not interested in a paying job i will happily have you as a volunteer. If you are sure you have time, it don't want you to get into trouble. Believe me you will get into enough of it with me." Z smiled beautifully at him.

He shrugged. "I'm a big guy, if ya didn't notice," he stood a full 6' 1 which was really tall for those days. 'I can handle myself if the goin' gets rough." He smiled a little. "And... well if ya want the honest truth... if ya got spare money... well who am I to turn down good money, so long as it won't hurt no body if i'm the one who has it. He didn't want money taken from other people who were working to pay him. But if there was some on the side or something, anything... he wouldn't turn it down. Why should he?

"Good...It's settled then." Z laughed "I'm glad you can handle yourself, oh and dont take it personal if the men try to grab your derriere." she smiled charmingly at him, eyes full of mock innocence. She handed him a pile of the pamphlets "Lets see what you have" she said. "Give it a test run." She sat back on the bench and waved him to his feet, ready to watch him try his first pitch.

He looked at her with a smirk, and then couldn't help but shake his head and chuckle at the joke. "No offence, but I don't think I'm as pretty as you," he said with a wink. "Ho-kay," he said as he started walking down the path, and to those he met, he offered the statement's he's said to Z a few minutes ago. About how the extra money might be nice, and what women can do just as good as men. Some people really listened! Of course, the fact that he was a man, might have actually had something to do with that, but he didn't think he'd mention that to Z.

She blushed at the wink and the compliment. "I guess not." She smiled softly.
"Well I'll be." she whispered to herself amazed and smiled at him as he worked. "Its like taking candy from a babe for him." It amazed her how charming he was to everyone he met and they ate it up, by the time they walked away he had them in the palm of his hand. Z shook her head in astonishment. "I could watch you work all day." She smiled beautifully at him.

He shook his head. "No ya couldn't... ya'd either get bored, tired, hungry, or decide maybe you should join in the fun," he said with a smile as he came back over to her. "Glad you think it's all goin' so well though. Just doin' what I told you," he added nodding slightly. "Ain't all that hard when ya get down to it."

"Me get tired of you." Z laughed. "Have you seen yourself in the mirror." She grinned beautifully and blushed "It'd be the way around before that happened." she looked up at him and shielded her eyes from the sun and smiled charmingly at him. "Its down right astounding." She shook her head "I've been doing this all my life and I love it but its never that easy. Teach me how you do it?"

Avalanche laughed. "I can if ya like, but we might hafta start from square one. I mean... I gotta lotta my sellin' abilities from bein' a newsie." He looked at her face, form, and figure, and took a shot in the dark. "You know, I used ta know every newsie that walked through the distribution gates in the morning... but I don't know 'em all anymore. Ta me... you look too pretty to live in da lodgin' house, but are you a newsie?" he asked looking at her, eyes sparkling in the sun that seemed to be getting gradually warmer.

Z smiled at the compliment. "I'm use to living with a crowd, 7 siblings is a brood even back home." She smiled in fond remembrance."At the lodgings everythings a mess, food is bought and made in bulk, at times they fend for themselves and the elders watch out for the young ones. It's the closest thing ive found to home and i adore it."
She looked at him and was taken aback again at how attractive he was. Z shrugged her shoulders "Plus its cheap i can save my money for the movement and reforms i support. I dont need much, the money might as well go to something that does. I wouldn't do it any other way." She smiled genuinely at him.

He nodded, taking that all to mean that he was correct, and smiled. "Pretty face, and beautiful heart and mind to match. You really are too good to be true ain't cha?" he asked with his ever charming smile.
"Well... good to know," he added nodding. "The good news is that you've got a background in somethin' that involves a sales pitch. So... you gotta sell your ideas like your sellin' a paper. You go talkin' about stuff no one wants ta hear you get no one's attention, but the second they suddenly care... is the second you've got their support," he said nodding. It was just like selling a paper, except this sale had to last longer. Not improving the truth, but just stating it in a way that it will get them to listen.

You really are too good to be true ain't cha?
"Of course," Z grinned beautifully.
She nodded as he talked. "Alright let me give it a try." Standing Z brushed out her skirts and made her way over to a group of gentleman and a lady. She smiled at them and began speaking. They listened for the most part and nodded to everything she said.
"Where do you work my dear." the lady asked. "This is my vocation." Z said her face showing that she didnt understand what that had to do with anything. "Ah so you are unmarried." "At the moment." "Hmmmmm..." "Beg your pardon but what are you trying to say?" "Nothing my dear nothing. Simply that maybe your father shouldnt let you run around by yourself. Young women these days and everything." Behind the ladies back one of the Gentlemen reached behind Z and brushed her derriere. "Yes i can see you keep you children in hand." She murmured and curtsied gracefully. "Good day to you."
Z kept her back straight and smiled, swearing under her breath in Italian as she made her way back to the bench.

Avalanche saw the scene and dashed over to her. He spoke extra loudly so the couple walking away would hear. "Hello dear! I just got off work at the factory. I do wish that it were alright for you to get a job... I'm just not sure how we're going to make ends meet once we're married! I'll be putting in extra time all the time, and never be home! If you could only work too... we could spend more time together!"
He had no idea if it would work, but just for good measure he leaned down and kissed her cheek. His ever charming smile was present, and he held her in his arms as though they'd been dating for years.

It seemed Uncle Walter would let her do anything she wanted now-a-days. He was visiting some old friend not a block away, a stuffy old man who apparently once taught him. Knowing she would be bored with just sitting there as Walter yelled for the poor fellow to hear, he let her walk through the nearby park instead.
Well, it was the least he could have done. She'd had to cancel her real first date for a banquet of one of the hospital staff was having that she'd forgotten completely about. She had merely been too excited to say no to Avalanche.
Lara twilled a daisy in her hand, plucking one petal at a time, taking in the scenery, smiling as the people walked by. She knew they hated seeing a young girl out by herself. How awful. A nice young girl, that had a family who could support her, by the look of her dress, wandering unattended.
She smiled to herself, thinking how nice and friendly Avalanche had always been to her. How awkward, but terribly sweet merely setting the date had been. And how difficult she found it to get a hold of him. Dutchy promised to ask him about setting another date, according to her uncle's plans.
But more than that, she liked Avalanche.
"...I just got off work at the factory."
She looked up, hearing his voice before seeing him. Good gosh, did his name suit him. She felt her heart race, seeing him a bit further down the path. He wasn't looking towards her, but at some couple heading down the path perpendicular to hers.
"...make ends meet once we're married!"
Her heart stopped then, at those words. She felt she could hardly breathe. A strange feeling came over her, a tug at her chest, an emptiness in her stomach. Thoughts and emotions moved rapidly inside of herself, but she heard nothing and couldn't comprehend what she felt, but the over whelming urge to cry and shout.
The way he held the other girl made it worse. Clearly, Lara had been had. How foolish she had been. How stupid to think he was so charming and, dammit, nice. And interested in her. The first to show real concern after Walter had hit her. And Avalanche given her the ever important nickname. He had given it to her, all right. Right now, another "shiner" would have probably hurt just as much.
Tears blurred her vision, and she turned right around on her path, dropping the daisy there. He loves me not.

Z smiled up gratefully at Avalanche. "If only dear." She raised her eyebrow and smirked a bit her eyes widening as he kissed her cheek and a blush crept up her face as he held her. "Hmmmm..." She sighed contently without realizing it. It was nice.
The couple turned back intrigued at the display of affection. "Care to support a worthy cause?" Z asked blithely then settled back into Avalanches arms. "Lets go," She smiled genuinely up at him and put her arm in his. "Shall we?" as she turned around her smile faltered. She glanced over her shoulder at the couple to make sure they were out of ear shot.
"Avalanche love, i think your display of chivalry may have been more than you wished it to be." She nodded towards the disappearing girl and smiled kindly.

He couldn't help but chuckle, if nothing else it did get the couple's affection and proved them wrong at that. So there!
He smiled at her as they turned but as soon as Z pointed out something he glanced over in the direction she looked. His smile fell as well. Shiner. Poor thing. "Aw no," he said quietly. "Poor kid..." he shook his head. Avalanche was so easy with his words and flirting he often did it without notice. Shiner must have taken him a bit too seriously. He couldn't pursue her now.
"Girl, from Manhattan, a friend of mine," he explained to Z. Avalanche was a good liar, but this was the hard truth, just a friend. Whether or not Z would believe that, who the heck knew?
He shook off the sadness, and the fact that he felt bad for leading anyone on and nodded instead. "Yes.. we shall," he said in a normal voice. "...where shall we?" he asked lower again and that charming smile back on his face, and the spark back in his eye.
