Racetrack sauntered into the room, a cheery grin on his face, when he came across the obviously somber mood. "Hey what gives?" He looked between everyone in the room, waiting for someone to let him in on what exactly was going on, when he noticed a breathing pile of blankets on the floor. He made his way over, a knowing look on his face as he pulled the top one off. "Heya Hawk."

David nooded at Race as he entered. Then answered his question. "Jack left. He's going to Santa Fe for 2 months, then he'll be back....The letter is around her somewhere..." He said, not quite knowing where it had gone.

Tumbler smiled as he bounced into the room. Finally....today had actually been a good day, with lots of people to feel sorry for him. He had finally perfected a 'sick' act, and used it on every woman he could find. Sure, there were a few husbands to figure it out and lead their wives away, but it hadn't mattered much. The atmosphere of the room stopped him quickly, though, when he was about halfway through it. There was a piece of paper at his feet, so he picked it up. It was then that he noticed the girls in the room, including Rose, who he knew wasn't a very happy girl. Unable to read well yet, he looked at Racetrack,
"Race, what is this?"

Rose managed to sit herself up upon hearing new voices. She grunted and signaled to where the note was thrown on the ground, or where it previously was anyhow.
She now looked towards Tumbler, "I'll tell ya what it is," Rose was currently in the 'in between mood', that is she was at a stage of anger and depression, which is unique for her since she usually manages a smile through most anything, "Jacky-boy left us. Not even a goodbye."
She shook her head, repeating what she had said before in a whisper, "Coward."

Hawkeye shook a few hairs out of her face, sneezing afterward. She looked up at Race for a moment before grabbing one of his hands and using it to pull herself up. Unfortunately, her balance wasn't very good at this particular time, and she managed to tip over onto her bed, immediately doubling over in a fit of coughing. A minute or two later, she looked up and mumbled, "Hi, Race," then glanced around the room, continuing to mumble, "Hi ober peoble," which was followed by several more coughs and another sneeze. She grumbled and grabbed a hold of her tissue box, "Stupid winter."

David shook his head. "He's not a coward Rose...you don't know how hard it was for him to leave without a goodbye. He knew he had too, he knew he had to go and couldn't let anything stop him, he needs this you guys..." He looked around at everyone. "Can you at least care about him enough to give him this, he has led you for so long... just give him this one thing...."

"Maybe it's because we care about him that..." Rose shook her head, closing her eyes, "Nevermind."
She swallowed, trying to her best to get through this all. Rose had a broken smile upon her face, "He promised me he wouldn't get himself killed... S'pose that's enough for now."

Hawkeye shrugged, "I ain't holbing it against him," she said in response to David, "Hell, if I was him, I woulb've left here a while abo. I've always habed being stub in a rub," By "stub in a rub," she meant "stuck in a rut," but her current cold prevented her from saying this, "Same place ebery day doing the same thing? I'd habe that. 'S why I move 'round a lob. I don' like selling in the same place for a real long time. 'S really something that I eben stub around here for so long."
Again, she dissolved into another fit of coughing. Even though the noise she was creating, she heard what Rose said and figured it would be best for her to not say anything further on the topic.

Rose shrugged, "I don't care what he does, I think he's possibly able to make his own decisions," she looked around the room, now in the stage of denial or acceptance, depending on how you look at it, "He's gotta do what he's gotta do, and if that means leavin' us... then fine. The boy just better come back and not forget 'bout us."
Rose was lying through her teeth, but the others wouldn't know that. It wasn't that she was mad at him per say, it was more the shock of him actually being gone.

Race took in what they were saying about Jack, not sure how he felt about it. I mean, he had always kind of seen it coming, but now that it actually had he was sure he would miss his friend. As Hawkeye pulled on his arm and fell onto her bed he let out a small laugh, but it faded when she began coughing. "Whatsa mattah? That don' sound too good Hawkeye," he said, walking over to her bedside. Forget about Jack, wasn't anyone else hearing this? It certainly didn't sound like a common cold to him, he'd lived on the streets long enough to recognize the difference, and it worried him. "How long you been like this?"

Rose disappeared from sight for a moment. When she returned, she walked towards Hawkeye, a fresh glass of water in her hand.
She knelt down next to Hawkeye's bed, holding out the glass to her, "Take small sips," Rose used her free hand and put it to Hawkeye's forehead, she shook her head. Without saying another word, Rose removed her hand and let it fall to her side.

Hawkeye shrugged, "Just a cold. 'S no big deal," she paused before answering Race's last question, "A week, maybe? Guess 's not getting much better though. You know, coughings worse and all," she shrugged again, "It'll clear up."
She mumbled a thanks as she accepted the glass of water from Rose, eying her suspiciously as her expression fell a bit after feeling her forehead, "What?" She glanced between her and Race, taking a sip of water. This didn't work out too well though, because she went into another fit of coughing immediately after.

Rose bit her lip, she tended to do this when she was lying her ass off, "Nothing."
She looked up at Race, Rose didn't know of any cold that would cause such a fever, or any flu that would cause such a cough. She figured she'd just stay around the bunks and watch over Hawkeye for a while. Not as if she was an expertise in doctoring, but it couldn't hurt to have a friend there.

Race gave Hawkeye a measuring look, his eyes squinted slightly in discernment. When Rose felt the girl's forehead and shook her head it was cause enough for alarm. "What? What was that you just did? It shore didn' look like nuthin'.." He sat down on the edge of Hawkeye's bed, glaring slightly at Rose for her to answer.

Rose tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, "Hey, I ain't a doctor or nuthin', Is just thought she felt a little warmer than usually is all," she continued to bite down on her lip.
She wasn't smart or anything, but whatever Hawkeye was sick with didn't seem to be a cold.
