He watched her explain and didn't really know what to say. "I'm sorry," he stated lamely. He knew that usually sorry didn't help, but he didn't really know what else to say. "Sounds like a lonely life. Ya could always try again to stay," he suggested.

She looked back up at him. She usually avoided the subject of her past, she had been used to many times. She shrugged. "Don't worry about." She didn't know if he was really sincere, she had a hard time trusting people. "Yea, I could try but..." she looked up at Flick, not knowing if he really cared about her at all. "I just don't know yet."

He watched her eyes and realized she didn't trust him at all, he wasn't used to people not trusting him. Most people trusted him, they may not like him, but he hadn't ever inspired distrust. "Dats all right," he wanted to understand why she didn't trust people, but he didn't know how to ask. "Ya wanna..." he trailed off, deciding against asking. "Your turn to ask a question."

She kept her eyes on him, her insides turning. Why couldn't she just trust people. Then of course she remembered. Everytime she tried, they did something to lose her trust. "Okay, but first, what were you going to say?"

He shrugged, "Just gonna ask if ya wanted to go...," he trailed off as he remembered that she didn't trust him. He gave her a rueful grin, "I was gonna say if ya wanted to talk about it, I would listen."

She smiled a soft crooked smile, aware that he hadn't finished his first sentence. "No, not right now, I'm okay. Thanks for offering to listen though, that mean a lot." She paused. "Go where?" Her voice playful, wanting him to say what he really wanted.

She couldn't help but smile, maybe he did care about her, at least a little. "Yea, I'd like that." She really did, she loved spending time with him. "Okay, my question..." She had to think of one. "Do you drink?" It was all she could think of.

Flick smiled ruefully, "Every once and a while, but not often. But I don't love ta drink and I ain't not drunk." He said that last with meaning. "And I'd betteh neveh be," he said more to himself.

Champ opened the door to the Lodging house cautiously, peeking her head around. She swallowed as she stepped inside, closing the door just as quietly as she had opened it. She glanced at the boy and the girl who were sitting around and bit her lip. She looked around and saw a chair. She crept toward it and sat down, setting her tattered bag down at her feet. She ran a hand through her hair and then pulled out a sketchbook, settling down to draw.

"So its my question, right?" He asked looking at with a smile. He didn't notice the girl walk into the room until he leaned back in his seat. "Hey," he said as he looked towards her.

Champ's head snapped up so fast that her neck cracked. She blushed when she saw the boy looking at her. She bit her lip and waved.

"Hello," he said raising an eyebrow. "I'm Flick," he said with a charming smile, "and you are?" He continued to lounge in his seat but looked back at Fox with a smile and a wink.

Champ looked down at her sketch pad and flipped to the next page. She wrote "I'm Champ' on it and held it up.

Fox smiled as the attention was turned to the new girl. She grinned at Flick's wink and nodded softly, turning her attention to her. "It's nice to meet you Champ, I'm Fox." She smiled sweetly, wondering if the girl couldn't talk or if she was just really shy.
