It was near dark. Prince... needed to clear her head, badly. So, she was out walking. She found herself by the distribution center. Locked up for the night. She'd be here in a few hours time, to pick up the morning edition, and she wasn't lookin' forward to it. With all this war business going on... she just wanted it over.
Why had she lost her temper, what seemed so long ago at those tables. Why had she let it happen? Why didn't she try and stop it?
She couldn't blamed herself, so she stopped her train of thought right there, and sat down on the curb. She pulled out a cigarette and started looking around for her matches. Where had she put the dang matches?

Jack had been wandering, and he wasn't quite sure where he was going. Despite the repose he had recieved during the day from his friends in 'hattan, the war was still haunting him. He hated losing Spot as a friend, he hated the way the kids just attacked eachother without reason other than its what their leaders told them to do...
Chuckling softly, he realized he was in Queens. The distribution center, to be exact. I guess my steps lead me where I wanted to be, anyways
Seeing a smallish boy sitting on the stoop, he recognized the figure instantly. IT was no boy--it was Prince, making him smile. Slipping his cowboy hat, he stepped up and lit a match, holding it up to her cigarrette. "..heah"

Prince looked up at him rather absently, and a sight of the cowboy hat made her smile a bit. "Thanks," she said lighting her cigarette, and taking a drag on it.
"What cha doin' way out heah? Cross da bridge, all da way through Brooklyn... 'less ya took da Bronx route. How'd ya wind up in my territory?" she asked him. "Gotta be tired. Havea seat," she said motioning to the curb beside her. She let her boyish accent slip, and allowed her voice to go into a higher tone, making her sound like a girl, though, her appearence read boy from hat to toe.

Jack smirked. "..I guess I took da Bronx route." He sat down next to her, leaning back on the gate. "I wasn't about ta tempt fate with a meeting wid Spot." He sighed, the wear and tear of the war showing on his face. "That would end bad on all levels." He lit a cigarette of his own, running a hand through his hair as he took a drag. "Truth be told, Is just wanted to walk. Clea' mah head." He shrugged. "...not that its helped much." He sighed.

"Been dere, done dat, sold dat pape," she said meaning that she'd been through that story a million times. She sighed heavily. "Is it just me, or is dis war gettin' old?" she asked. "Yeah, I realize, dat as leadah's we're supposed ta stay strong, and stand firm on what we said, and what we stand for, but... by God I'm gettin' tired of it!" she said. "Dere are times I'd wish It'd nevah happened, which any more is all da time."
She laughed a little. "Sorry, jus get carried away, get ta talkin', forget dat I nevah stopped," she said, slightly embarassed for rambling.

Jack smiled softly as she ranted. "Nah...Is feel the same." He gestured with his cigarette to nothing in particular. "...What I hate is that wes figured dis all out..and wes still heah'...fightin' eachotha." He snorted in frustration. "...Spots so damn stubborn."
He sighed. "...yeah' wes supposed to stay strong..but Id ratha' give than see my kids get resentful...or too hateful to deir formah' friends.." He looked at her. "It's hard.."

"Da whole things about pride... if Spot wouldta..." she sighed. "I dunno... I dun wanna think about da war. I dun enough of dat for one life time. Let's find somethin' else ta think about. Or b'fore we know it we'll be pointin' fingers at eachothah, an' no body wants dat," she said shaking her head. After all, it would be rather silling them being allies all this time only to turn into enimies. Better to avoid the subject.

Jack laughed softly. "Sweets..onna my goils said we should try lowerin' our pride to try and appeal ta his or sumthin'." He shrugged. "It could woirk..but Is should talk ta David. I ain't no genius." He always seemed to mention this. He knew he was charismatic and could hold people's attention, but he knew he wasn't brilliant. He got by, but David was always his helping brain.
He shook himself from his thoughts. "Sorry..yes...lets talk about somethin' different." He took another drag on his cigarette, hoping that his nervousness wouldn't show now that they werent talking about the war. "Uh...hows ya been, besides tha war?"

She shrugged. "Fine. Been thinkin' a lot recently, about... things even with the war goin' on I still seem ta find pleanty ta keep my mind occupied, ain't dat weird?" she asked though it was rhetorial question. "Been thinkin' about... things," she had been going to say family, but that would have been a bad idea. "How's about you? Stayin' outta Snyder's way?" she asked nonchalantly, as though it were an off the cuff question.

Jack snorted. "..surprisinly, I haven't had ta run much.." HE shrugged. "He's up ta somethin'...somethin' that is big enough ta distract him from me...which worries me."
He looked to Prince for a moment, regarding her. While she looked like a boy on some level, her refinied features told him that he indeed was looking at the pretty girl she was, even underneath the guff exeterior. "Doesn't really sound like you've been havin' a blast...had no time for fun?"
David had taken him away from it for a bit, but he wasn't even sure Prince had someone like that to help her like that. He sighed, feeling guilty that he hadn't taken enough time to get to know her, spend time with her.

Worried her too... Snyder bein' up to something... worried her a whole lot. She didn't want to think about that either.
Her first impulse was to say 'no' to Jack's question, but what she did say was, "Not recently," she said while she smiled. "Havin' ta be somethin' ya ain't takes some of da fun outta things dat youse can do. Jus some... take for example swimmin'." pretending to be a boy, while swimming in a river, or a lake can become rather annoying at times. Especially when it came to taking off a shirt like most boys did. She didn't swim much, hence the reason she liked the fountain. She could be around water, and not have to get in. "But in general... fun is somethin' I dun worry much about," she was feeling pessamistic at the moment, who knows why.

Jack nodded. "Yeah..I can imagine..." He paused finishing his cigarette, snubbing it into the ground. He himself had hidden who he really was for a long time. All those lies he created, that, when they fell down, left him more free than if he had actually made it to Santa Fe.
"Is understand how it could be tough..but..." He shrugged. "why do ya keep who ya are hidden?" He kept his eyes outward, not looking at her. "...you would be respected even if they all knew you were a goil. You deserve it."

Prince smiled and even chuckled a little about his it about them respecting her. In the end she smiled and said, "It ain't respect I'm lookin' for," her smile slowly dissappeared. "A lotta da newsies do know dat I'm a goil... it's da people who ain't newsies dat I'm worried about." This was... dangerous territory for Prince. She didn't know why she spoke of it now, when before all she had ever said in responce to that kind of question was 'papes sold bettah from a boy den a goil.' no matter how terrible it sounded, it was the common lie she told.
"I keep myself hidden for my own reasons," she said hiding herself inside again, and her face going a bit hard. Though, she wanted to badly to spill out her entire life story, tell him every last thing, and apologize as well.

He nodded, understanding why she wanted to keep it to herself. "Ya know...one goil I knew who dressed as a boy..she hid cause she was attacked when she was younga'..she told no one." He looked to her and shrugged. "I won't pry. Ain't my place." He paused and said hesitently. "...but...if ya need ta talk...I'm here foh' ya."
