Raising her eyebrow, "Illegal? No, I haven't even had time, I've only recently got into town, so don't worry about that. Whats going on that I don't know about?" Then she realized she didn't know as much as she did when she was at home. New York is much bigger than her home town. "I'm curious why you would believe that I would be doing something illegal."

"It's probaly best you don't know." She seemed sincere enough, but that didn't stop him from checking the rooms. After he was sure no one else was there, he replied, "Just a few gang-like folks trying to screw around with New York." he ended it with a sigh. He missed Arianette and he was going to make sure those Raconteurs would pay.

Looking at him closely she frowned. "What are these gang-like folks doing to upset an upstanding officer like yourself? I mean usually you guys just ignore gangs and such until you hear complaints, right?" She had watched him check every room then asked, "Don't big buildings like this have some kind of basement and attic?" She was trying to be helpful, because for a moment there he looked sad and angry at the same time.

"Yeah, well these gang guys aren't your typical gangsters. They've already kidnapped at least two people and are recruiting newsies to do their dirty work. Their little leader's probaly afraid to get his hands dirty." he said, biting off the last part. He thought about searching the basement, but ultimately decided he was a bit paranoid.
He sat himself back down on the top step. "So what is it you do exactly?" the rain wasn't letting up and he couldn't just keep quiet, he needed to talk. He didn't believe the girl was involved with the Raconteurs, she just didn't seem the type.

Looking down at Officer Carter's head she thought about what he said. Tucking it away in the back of her head and stepping down two step below him she leaned against the banister so she could look up at him. "Well, I suppose I'm a newsie. Though I thats only for now, so I can feed Devil," she paused, "and myself if I have enough to buy myself something. But I have been working at Stan's Bakery because Devil here," when she said his name he put his head in her lap. Laughing she petted his head, "Well he made a bit of a mess in the bakery." Looking up at Carter's face she asked, "So why did you become an officer?"

"Well it was either this or working in a factory, and being an officer is much more fun." he replied, smiling. So the girl was a newsie, but she also had a job. He looked down at the dog, she had called him Devil, but he didn't much seem like one. "A dog named Devil? He doesn't look to awful devil-ish to me."

A loud voice roared its annoyance in a mixture of very loud Gaelic and Italian, as someone half fell, half ran into the building, completely unaware there were two others already there. Red was drenched and shivering, his red hair falling into his eyes as he put his arms around his thin frame and huddled in his clothes.
"Stupid rain." He spat, staring out at the downpour.

Wet.
Wet, and cold.
This was Zero as she stepped into the building, now unnaware of everyone as she rubbed her arms in an attempt to bring back some kind of warmth to her body.
Searching through her bag, she found her chalkboard soaked, but luckily the chalk had stayed dry.
What a glorious day. Now, for added fun, how 'bout some lightning?
CRACKBOOM!
It was like the weather read her mind.
((If I shouldn't be here, simply say so. :\ ))

Jack let out a string of curses as he ran into the emtpy building, shaking the rain from his brown hair, sighing. Of course. Couldn't catch a break the past month..he chuckled softly. Typical.
An eyebrow raised when he noticed that this wasn't that....empty of a building. Zero...Red...some kid he didn't know...And that damn pig.
Jack spoke, his voice holding equal hints of annoyance and amusement. "...well. Ain't this party central."

Zero stared at Jack and tilted her head sideways. It was only then that she took in the three others... now four, counting Jack.
Whoo boy, people... how fun... She thought and sighed, trying desperatly to dry off the chalk board.

She looked at him wide eyed and covered Devil's ears. "Don't let him hear you say that," she exclaimed. "You will insult him. That is his dream and he does a very good job at it." Removing her hands from his ears she rubbed his head. "Trust me, I wonder if I would have been in so much trouble along the way if I hadn't decided to save him. But then I guess he has saved me enough that it is all even."
Jumping a little as someone came running in. She understood about half of what he said, something about the rain being, she didn't catch what it was, but she didn't thing that it was a good thing. Laughing a little at the drenched boy she said, "You know you shouldn't insult the weather." Spade watched as two other people walked in through the door. She didn't know any of them, her hand automatically drifted to her whip, while the other she put on her dog.

Zero eyed the whip a bit nervously, but smiled all the same at Spade.
Taking out her slightly dry chalkboard again she began to scribble down a short sentance.
I like your dog.
With that, she showed it to Spade and earased it again.

She watched curiously as the girl took out a chalkboard. She smiled a little as she read the sentence. Anyone who liked her dog was fine with her. "Thank you very much. I like him on occasions." She continued to watch the girl, but kept an eye on everyone else.

She laughed and grinned before writing yet another message.
I've got a dog too... only he's back at the Lodging house.
What's your dog's name?

It seemed as if everyone in New York had come running into the building. He couldn't tell who the two others were, it had to have been the dead of night. But he had recognized Red's voice. He had shot up as soon as Red had ran in the door.
"What in the hell are you all doing here?"
